    I’ve had HEPA air purifiers in my home for years. They’re not attached to the HVAC systems; they’re stand-alone units and not wildly expensive. Great at cleaning the air of seasonal allergy stuff of course.

    Thanks. What MERV rating do you recommend to mitigate mold spores?

    Yikes, I haven't been using the right filters (I just spoke to my HVAC company). Thanks for the video! If I do a DIY encapsulation, can I drain my HVAC & humidifier condensate lines into a sump pump basin to avoid extra house penetrations?

    • @CrawlSpaceNinja
      @CrawlSpaceNinja  2 роки тому

      Draining the condensate into house drains can damage the plumbing in older homes. You should consult the furnace manufacturer's installation instructions for information on draining the furnace condensate. The issue is complicated; you may wish to read this article about problems arising from draining corrosive condensate:

      @@CrawlSpaceNinja Excellent; I appreciate this. It looks like I may be able to drain my HVAC condensate into a sump pump pit if I use a condensate neutralizer so I wouldn't have to worry about corrosive damage to a cast iron sump pump like the one you guys sell. However, I'll double check with my plumber. Thank you!!!

    What are your thoughts on UV lights inside the HVAC system to kill airborne mold?

    • @CrawlSpaceNinja
      @CrawlSpaceNinja  Рік тому +1

      Hey Hiken Mikes,
      They seem to be OK at killing surface germs on the coils, but I have not seen a lot of evidence that a straight UV light will kill airborne particles without some kind of catalyst.

    Im researching filters for a blog post on Mini Splits. For the life of me I can't find any valid info for ratings on the filters they use. Looks like simple mesh for dust collection. Slyly they label that Mini Splits improve air quality. Spliting hairs, the Mini Split is ductless and doesn't throw up a bunch of duct debri but the filter is not the reason why. The Mitsubishi Mini Split has replacement filters and a site sells them under a page titled HEPA but they are all labeled E12. Very confusing for customers. Also Mini Splits use a fan to circulate air over the cooling coils of the indoor unit. With air restriction I think id be right in saying that the fan will continue to run as normal. It's not like a vacuum that runs higher when it meets less resistance. There is no sensor telling the mini split that there is less air due to your higher filtration. I don't think this will effect the fan motor at all but it does mean less air out put. I am not sure of the effects of less warm air over the coils but I assume it's equivalent to a cool indoor temp over the coils.

      Great info, I always default to the ask the manufacturer when dealing with these units. They may have a clause that a filter at a certain MERV rating could possibly damage the unit and void warranty. May be a good idea to ask the maker of the mini split.

    where do you get your scrubbers

    • @CrawlSpaceNinja
      @CrawlSpaceNinja  Рік тому

      Brandon - A growing number of homeowners are becoming concerned about allergens, mold, VOCs, and air pollutants in their homes. If you or anyone in your family suffers from allergies, asthma or respiratory issues, this is especially important. Air scrubbers are attached directly to your HVAC system's ductwork. This machine removes air pollution, VOCs, surface contaminants, pet dander, odors, and dust. In addition to providing a cleaner, healthier, and more efficient home, it also reduces energy consumption. Clean your home with this low maintenance device that uses proprietary light waves and a specialized catalytic process. Because there are a variety of manufacturers that produce air scrubbers, there isn’t a particular brand that we recommend. Thanks for watching and we hope you have a happy and blessed day!
