Tetris 99 is pretty friendly if you're worried about being btfo'd. I wouldn't consider myself an amazing player by any means but I've gotten a decent amount of wins under my own belt for that

I sat through most of the video wondering why Wumbo was just breezing while you were absolutely smashing him with attacks, but as we neared the end and I looked at the attack numbers, I finally got it.
He played the long con, and hit back HARD.

You know the game is different when you get the assemblage of 20 low to mid-level side characters spectating the final round of the tournament.
I've watched the moment that the situation reversed itself a few times now.... and i still have no idea what happened.
My game sense is telling that it's probably something specific to this version of tetris and that's about it.
Here's what I think happened:
Wumbo managed to get a high enough combo that cleared the garbage sent to them by Badgoblin, then using that same combo guage, Wumbo sends massive amounts of garbage to their opponent and Badgoblin couldn't keep up.
In other words, a bigger combo means faster garbage clearing and more garbage sending
The game counts twists/spins with any piece, not just T Spins. Wumbo abuses that to get B2B spins which send 300+ per line instead of the 20 per line you get from just the combo. Doesn't matter how much faster you're playing when you need 10-20 lines to counter one line clear

Very interesting, that also means that this might not be exclusive to this version of tetris, just the versions that have b2b spins with similar boosts

why did the remove the garbage bar restarting at different colours? helped to see how much garbage was actually being sent and plus it looked really satisfying lol
Probably because it was irrelevant in 99% of play and the bar EXITING THE MATRIX truly exemplifies "You are going to die."

The power of the combo gauge
Literally how did that guy lose? That's absurd
It was the length of the line clear combo that acted as a defense and attack. The opponent focused on fast clears but sometimes breaks the combo in an attempt to pressure. Once Wumbo gets multiples in combo over someone else, there's a greater gain in removing their attack potency and the attack being delivered. While that attack is looming, any non-clear results in garbage adding in.
I can't breathe it's too funny this mode and is amazing

there is a max combo bonus, it's also not that high because otherwise 4w openers would be op

its a custom match so the host can set it up. i dont think theres a standard.

wumbo never broke his combo so his hits kept getting stronger and stronger until he was actually doing more damage than the fast guy. and you also cant die until you break your combo i think
