Central Coast of CA here. Not SF/SJ expensive, but certainly not a bargain area. My husband retired 4 years ago at 50 from a gov't job with a great pension. He also does some well-paid contract work when he chooses. I am retiring in December at 55 with a very good gov't pension. I have been selling on eBay part time for the last 5 years. I feel like I am able to retire "early" (55 is pretty young, considering) and use my eBay profits (I will ramp up to full time immediately) to supplement my pension. We paid off our house a year ago; that's also the main reason I can retire at 55. I also get to keep my employer-provided health insurance at the employee cost (not Cobra), which is a HUGE savings. Hoping it all works out.......
I retired with a pension & switch from part-time to full-time selling on eBay 3 years ago & I was able to leave a 31 year career with my state at age 56 living the dream.
Living in FL. Reselling isn't easy by a long shot. I've been doing it for several years part-time and then started full-time a few months ago ( I had no choice but to leave my full-time job due to mental issues, etc). It's freaking HARD, but I continue to stay focused every day, every minute until I can get to a point where i feel comfortable and less stressed. My faith plays a huge part in this. All I can advise to others is to stay focused and BELIEVE in yourself! .. thank you, Mike, for your videos because you have been a huge help!!!
Not hard for me, I live in Miami...only problem here is, some of the thrift stores are Gladiator school,😂😂😂, gotta watch my cart constantly with poacher competition resellers trying to catch me slipping and trying to Jack my finds! 😂😂😂
I help my son with his store in Wyoming and think if he were to take 100% control of it I think he could do it. But he’s a financial advisor which takes a lot of time. Everyone invest in PLTR and NVDA if possible!! Just a little stock advice!!!
I love selling Sonos. I usually find the older zoneplay 5 units. Definitely couldn't make a living at this where you are but here in AZ it is possible.
However, if you have a paid-for house in San Jose, and are paying Prop-13 property tax, you definitely have an edge. You expenses are much lower than everyone else, and you have a leg up as a reseller because fewer competitors for sourcing can afford to live in your area.
...and that is why I'm able to do what I do. Prop 13 saves me thousands. They are still trying to get rid of that. That was one of the best props ever!
Doing it to add to retirement. Pension starting next year when I retire. All my sales go into a savings account. Need to move it to something to make more money.
I live in Orinda (do you know where that is Mike?) and am a full time reseller, I just bought a smaller 3 bedroom house here in Orinda and I make enough to eat dinner in Walnut Creek at my favorite restauarant every night. Savers and Goodwill EBAY pays my mortgage payment!! Jus don't be lazy
Only $266,000? Wow... They need coupons! LOL. I'm in Western NY, a single person can live quite comfortable on $42,000 and we even have running a water and a vast fresh water lake.
@@goldenstatepickerI’m in Northern NJ and people complain about housing prices and cost of living here, but it is also one of the best places to make a really good living. We are middle class and it’s tough keeping up with the Jones’s. But I would never leave it!
We must be kindred spirits! We resell the same items and in a similar boat. I'm 55 and about a year away from retirement planning to use reselling to help cover my gap years (62-67) until SS. Been selling on eBay for 25 years but really serious the last 5. Would like to add Amazon FBA but waiting until I retire (and keep reselling part time). How much effort would you say adding Amazon was for you? Great video as usual!
Looking good for 62! Lots of good information in this video. On the other hand, holy crap. Texas is expensive enough. I'll stay away from California, Mike-- Its all yours.
It's nuts here. Not sure where it all ends up at. Not many can make it comfortably like the article says. NC is looking more and more like it might me the place.
I saw yesterday that San Jose residents making $154k are “low income” according to the housing authority! $154k is a lot of money and isn’t that sad? Our children who graduate from college aren’t making that and can barely afford to rent a place in South Bay in a safe neighborhood.
If you were lucky enough to own a house before the melt up and were able to refinance to a 2.5% 30 year mortgage that number would be much less. Better if you own your home outright.
That's the issue with all of the newer buyers. Many mortgages are $8,000 and more here for the tech field and ad on property taxes of $1600 or more a month.
@@goldenstatepicker hi Mike love your videos. Been following you for a while and your videos are top notch and very informative. I had a question though for the things you list on eBay do you list them for a buy it now price or auction bidding. If you do both what makes you pick one over the other?
I'm curious about your opinion on UA-cam hurting you more than helping you. I see resellers who also have a following on social media and will advertise What not sales and other events , they have merch stores, get commission from links, they have eBay and other shop links in their youtube bio and possibly monetized by UA-cam. I can't understand how this doesn't help a reseller but instead takes away from their reselling business and hurts them. I hear a lot of viewers say resellers are successful resellers because of UA-cam/ social media. I don't think it increases eBay sales only because many viewers are resellers too and I don't think they are shopping at their favorite UA-camrs eBay store. But I'm curious how it's hurting peoples reselling business. I ask this because a few UA-camrs I watch said UA-cam is hurting their business. Maybe bring this topic up in a video thanks.
Ah, you just want te lay back and be (a bit) lazy whenever you choose 🤣 You're right, let those young dogs out their run themselves out of breath so you can just walk by and pick the bones they can't pick anymore because they're gasping for breath.
If you have a dinky house worth 1.5 million sell it and move somewhere you could have something nicer for a whole lot less and put the difference in an index fund. There I just solved your bridge year(s) issue.
Thosse are some of the things we are thinking of. Just hard to move away from a place that you have lived all your life. California has really slid into a mess with many issues, but our location makes it hard. WEATHER etrc.
I had to laugh when you were talking about those tickets where you win and you just had to send it in with 29.95. Many years ago I was on holidays in Bali. These people going around with these tickets you opened up you could win a prize but had to go and listen to some sort of speech. The top prize, thru kept talking about, to get people open ticket, was winning 500 dollars cash. Some native was pushing me to open the tickets, I kept saying no I'm not interested in the end I just took the ticket and opened it up. I said I won $500 and he thought I was joking. I showed him the ticket and he grabbed it out of my hand and ran away with it. Never saw him again, cheers Graham

It's the wild west out here. Unless you live in it you can never know just how out of touch it is.

If you have inventory it can be worth it. They are really fee heavy. Volume is the key. Just so different from ebay.

That's it. The gap is widening for many and it's not good.
