    I noticed you talked about the shipping price.
    I have always included shipping in my listing price. One of the reasons I do that is because I know several collectors who are millionaires, and they are really cheap when it comes to things.
    They all only look at things on eBay that have free shipping. That’s one of their search methods. They don’t care if shipping is a dollar or $50. They want to feel like they’re getting it for free so I just figure out what shipping will be and work that into the price. The trick with that as you still want to have the lowest price of a rare item on eBay so that you’ll get the sale. Pretty easy to figure out what it’s gonna cost you to ship something specially if it’s gonna fit in a priority flat rate box, if it’s something else that you have to weigh and measure, go ahead and package it up and get an estimate at the post office. Since you don’t know who your buyer is yet, I just work it out this way. If you live in New Jersey or Florida, look up the estimated shipping by stating a ZIP Code from the West Coast, like a city in California or the state of Oregon. That will pretty much tell you what the maximum shipping cost is going to be.
    My favorite way to ship items worth at least $50 profit is to ship them by priority mail. With those flat rate boxes there’s no weight limit and there is the fact that you’re getting the shipping material free and that it comes with insurance to a certain limit. Well that’s really a win-win.

    I love to take the grandkids to Freddie's once in a while to keep it special. We've been doing it for years. One of the little grandsons is in University now. The Hatch burgers are my favorite. Freddie's in Salina, Kansas. Great video, Mike!

    I only sell media right now. There are several VHS that I've sold for good money over and over again. The VHS I'm searching for are the ones that I know I can fetch $20+. They usually sell within a couple months of listing because people are looking for these rare VHS tapes. I still smile ear to ear every time I find them and I mentally hear the ch-ching! sound 😂

    These collector fads pop up now and again. I remember about 25 years ago, there was a fad for 45 RPM records by boy sopranos - yep, I mean the top singers from the Vienna Boy's Choir singing Bach and Mozart on picture-sleeve 45s. Nice copies were going for $300-800. This lasted about three or four months, so apparently a lot of eBay sellers started looking for them.
    You pronounce bonsai almost like banzai.....after seeing the prices, maybe that's not inappropriate!

    To say the VHS market has softened is an understatement. There was a mania that lasted a hot minute, but it's over. Exceptions abound, of course. The "Cars" VHS is a bona fide rarity, as it was only available though the Disney Video Club or whatever. I understand that a lot of the more obscure horror videocassettes do quite well, too. But hell, how can you lose when they pop up for a buck at a yard sale or a thrift store? 🤷‍♂

    I tend to stay away from trying to resell textbooks, you may think you found a treasure, but it might be an addition that is just a year too old to not have the fresh revised information that students will want also, even if you check carefully a lot of times textbooks have pages that been torn out or Highlighter markings, if you don’t spot it when you’re creating the description you might end up with an unhappy buyer that can give you a bad feedback because you didn’t state that for example page 141 has a highlighter marking, it’s not a big deal, but that person who bought the textbook might actually be a reseller themselves.for me feedback is number one. I’m very protective about. It’s been nice to keep 100% positive feedback rating after nearly 3000 items sold.

    If i do get/have VHS i tend to list them but when I am out in the wild chasing, I usually pick up Horror Movies. Especially older tapes. I found a first print Texas Chainsaw Massacre that sold for 189.00 and the box was in fair condition. Horror Movies are always a pick up but they are so hard to find.

    I was at Savers on Almaden Expressway today and am finding quite a few things and trying to branch out as you suggested. I saw a gathering of pickers (Scotty was one of them), Nice people. I also found some Donald Trump ties which were were in really nice condition. I am finding that I like the Savers on Almaden Expressway better than the one in Santa Clara. Like other physical media, there is money in VHS, but by volume most of it is literal garbage. You can make money buying and selling books, if you know what to look for. Exact same thing with VHS, but they are much harder to find.

    Ah, you are taking me back. When I started with Ebay back in '06 VHS tapes were some of my first sales. Did OK. Jane Fonda exercise VHS were popular. Have a large personal VHS library accumulated over the years. Still have a player and enjoy watching tapes on occasion. Agree the Disney Black label fortune is largely a myth and seems likely a bit of a scam. Went to a multi-family sale this summer that had a ton of VHS. Found a number of unopened tapes for a buck each. What sold quickly and for OK money were Disney, but not the Black Label. These are more obscure Disney movies. One that surprised me was a Civil War adventure flick starring Fess Parker (remember Disney's Davy Crocket). Also, a number of Disney movies have a very young Kurt Russel. I have done OK with VHS. Not a lot of homeruns, but plenty of singles and doubles.

      The ones I sold for $4500 and $1500 both had watermarks in the CELLOPANE. That is key. You can tell to a degree.

    • @johnathin0061892
      @johnathin0061892 27 днів тому

      Some studios put a watermark on the shrink wrap. The problem is, they didn't use watermarked shrink wrap consistently, especially small studios (like those who distributed anime in the 1990s.) A tape can be factory sealed without a watermark, even the same movie from the same studio.

    Hi, sorry if I’m filling up your comment area of your video, but I tend to disagree with people that charge shipping fee is a long time buyer on eBay before I ever started selling the items that are listed with free shipping always stood out to me. yes I understand you said to charge for shipping so it helps to pay for your shipping supplies. I get supplies freeor low price and I just work the cost of the shipping supplies and the shipping into the item selling price. I see some really ridiculous shipping for example someone a rare Casio or Seiko watch for $350. And then they have the nerve to say plus $19 shipping. Seriously? For an item like a wristwatch that the seller probably picked up for less than $50, they are standing to make nearly $300 profit and they can’t seem to pay that $19 shipping themselves? I don’t know if that’s just being cheap or greedy but if I sell a watch for that amount that much profit of course I’m going to pay the shipping, think about it that wristwatch will fit in a small priority mail. Flat rate box, put some padding around it and insure it for the full value and drop it in the mail. To haggle over $19 of whether I am supposed to pay the shipping or the buyer, when in doubt just go ahead and pay the shipping you’ll be glad you did.
