True. But there is a reason why I still use the Vita, Switch and Steam Deck. All have different applications. For example, there is something about playing PSP and Vita games as intended, so the Vita is still great for playing said games. I reckon Delta would be nice to have to installed on the phone. Personally speaking, it won’t be often that I take other handhelds with me.
I downloaded it last night after I saw your post. It’s surprisingly good! It won’t replace my dedicated retro handhelds, but it’s very good for when you have a few minutes to spare here and there.

Great video! About the audio issue, you can also just turn off the “Respect Silent Mode” option in the settings. Audio will play without having to turn off silent mode.
There’s an option in the app’s Settings menu labeled Respect Silent Mode. Turn that off and it’ll ignore that your phone’s ringer is off and behave just like any other media playback would.
As an iOS developer you can basically opt not to adhere to DMA and keep everything as it was before (so not publish to the alternative iOS stores, just keep all on the App Store). This DMA only applies for developers that intend to use alternative stores and/or alternative payments... But as always, Apple made it super hard to understand and that's why the most developers don't publish apps in the Europe... 😢
This is entirely Apple’s fault. It’s a completely arbitrary rule that prevents devs from putting apps in the App Store if they use an alternative store front. What reasonable justification is there for that? Consumers lose out because they can’t get Delta in the EU store and they even have to charge customers who opt to use third party storefronts (AltStore PAL). Ridiculous
My delta app was mute until I unchecked “respect silent mode” in in-app settings. Imo that’s is better for me the turning off silent mode on the iPhone itself.

I can’t wait to see what new apps will be coming out in the next few years now that Apple finally allows emulators. The future is looking good. Delta looks like it definitely needs some organization improvements. All games for all systems in one directory is too overwhelming. ES-DE and retroarch need to get ported ASAP.
I am sure you can create folders for systems/Genre /A-Z if you choose. I remember having to jailbreak my iPhone OG to play games, this is a much more elegant solution.
You can make Delta on the iPad full screen by using the 3 finger zoom gesture in the accessibility settings. Really good workaround until they release full iPad support!
One thing you missed in the video. I just plugged my iPhone 15 Pro into a USB-C/Thunderbolt Display and it put the game on the external display, provided power to my phone, and I could use the controller on the phone. This was on an ultra wide LG display. Pretty dang neat!
Already got Delta day one(and used to side load it). Still watching. Now just changed some artwork because I knew I would learn something new. It’s also fun to Airplay to a TV and use a controller and just have a multi Nintendo console
For anyone who is having problems with the audio, click the cog in the upper left hand corner of the app (the settings) scroll down to game audio and there is a “respect silent mode” click the slider if to the off position. If you have your phone on vibrate or silent the app automatically is set to respect that setting.
I love that you suggest grabbing a snack and drink every video. It makes me also want to grab a blanket, light a candle and and have a cozy RGC evening
After sideloading the app for years now it is such a relief to at least have this on my phone until Apple or Nintendo cracks down on the app. But until then I don’t need to reinstall any certificates or refresh the app, it’s just there. Which is such a freaking relief. And it makes casually playing retro games way easier for me when I get real busy.
@@cloudy6256 how sad are you? Just because Nintendo wants to protect their IP particularly with the switch but I do agree Nintendo is going too far when it comes to emulation of the old systems.
Once we got a couple more official emulators on the App Store (assuming that we will) I would love to see an updated/redux version of your “IPhone as a retro handheld video” from a few years ago. That was the video that sold me on the potential of this and led me to buying a Backbone, and that was back when side-loading was still somewhat of a hassle. Awesome to see how far we’ve come and exciting for the future considering newer iPhones have some pretty powerful chips
Oh man! This video came at the perfect time for me. I'm leaving for a short trip this weekend and didn't want to bring my Switch Lite with me, so I was gonna bring my Android phone to play some old games and now I'm using Delta (I've spent like 2 hours dropping my roms and stuff into the emulator) and I'm so excited! I just got to see how much the battery of my iPhone will last, but it's definitively worth the effort. I couldn't even play regular DS games on my Android and now I can! I'll be testing it and maybe update my thoughts for everyone who's considering installing it. Thanks for the video and the instructions! Appreciate it!
As an android user who plays with a lot of emulators, it feels pretty nice to see that iPhones are getting emulator support easily now. I hope it would bridge the gap and it would make switching to iOS easier for someone who plays a lot on emulators.
I’ve been using it since release and honestly it’s very impressive. It’s easy to use, and set up. Only one thing keeps it from being near perfect, and that’s not having a full screen DS option. I’ve gotten so used to the format of DS emulation with a designated button to switch between top and bottom screens. I know they said that more systems are coming g soon (3ds would be crazy if they could have it working as smooth as DS, with the full screen/swap option).
@@edmundroth6337 What? No. It isn't greedy. The price will basically just pay for his costs. He wants to support the idea of his AltStore, which is fine. We should thank him a lot, given that him starting a game emulator alt store is clearly part of what pushed Apple to complete and open up emulators on Apple's App Store.
It’s their product, they can charge as much as they want and considering they have to pay per download the price is ridiculously low. Making a fuss about €1.50 is absurd.
It's literally said in the video that Apple was gonna charge them ¢50/ download in eu even if it was free in the app store because of the developer terms. Altstore pal is what makes Delta possible in the EU.
@@edmundroth6337 It isn't greedy at all. It is mostly just covering the costs that Apple is charging the AltStore. We should be thanking the AltStore, as it is obvious that Apple only changed their App Store policies because of the potential of the AltStore
@@altair3090 That isn't how the App Store works. If it is free in an "alternate app store", at least 50 euro cents will be charged per user per year for downloads/updates (to the alternate store itself, and again to the app developer if it is over 1 million downloads). If it is free in the actual EU app store (like it is outside the EU), downloads would still be free to the developer.

I downloaded Delta purely for DS emulation because DS isn’t supported on the Vita. This opens up a whole new section of game options I didn’t have before
When you initially posted yesterday I downloaded the app 😂😅. I am a IPhone user and tho iPhone is always late to the features party its hard to leave the ecosystem. Im just happy that all my childhood games fit in my pocket again. The controller features are definitely a must. Im a DS kid and this emulator is the best ive seen while running it.
For those having issues with audio not working when using the app, turn off sound recognition in the accessibility setting. Also make sure it’s not in silent mode.
Ipad users can use the built in zoom function in the accessibility options to have a better full screen experience on thier Ipads. Choose "Full Screen Zoom" in the region setting. Double tapping with 3 fingers zooms in and out. Triple tapping with 3 fingers opens a few options to tinker with including how much it's zoomed. Obviously it'd be better to just have a full screen option in delta but in the mean time hope this helps. 😅
Just got this. I had resigned myself to never really playing the earlier handheld games (I have a 2ds but nothing earlier.) I now have a decent gba and ds library and am playing Phoenix Wright for the first time and loving it!!
Ok, one of my favorite Nintendo games was WarioWear Twister. It had this funky cart that I would drop into my GB Micro and off I’d go on my commute. To play the game, you had to physically move the whatever handheld you dropped it into. The cartridge had a motion detector and would know when you were shaking it. Anyway, I have been jonesing to play it for a long time and I loaded the rom into Delta and lo and behold, the game worked and the shake function worked perfectly. So much fun. If you can get a hold of it, you should def try it.
its great that we have so many options to play retro games now. I will use this for basic games but i would rather use the retro handhelds at this point rather than any phone. by the time you add additional accessories your pocket or bag would be as big as just carrying a retro handheld.
I think something that should be noted is that some Roms when used on Delta do not default to English. I've noticed that while the same ROM file is English on my MM+ and Steamdeck, in Delta the language isn't English and defaults to a different language. Literally NO IDEA why or how, but a note for anyone wanting to use Delta.
Even though I have a decently portable retro handheld, there's something extra convenient about having some of my favorite games directly on my phone to pick up and play anytime/anywhere. Gotta carry my handheld in a case and throw it in my bag when I go out, whereas I've almost always got my phone in my pocket. Obviously for more fast-paced stuff I'll need to use a controller, but for games like Tetris or Pokémon it's perfect!
I don't use an Apple device, so 'meh'. Historically 3 things prevented me from switching to Apple: Filesystem support, sideloading support, and the bans of some types of apps like emulators. They're like 1/2 way there in all avenues, they have a sorta abstracted filesystem concept now (they didn't back then), and now emulators, and I really like the way the iPhone SE(3) fits in my hand, IMO that's the best HW on the market right now if you're not into gigantic phones that you can't reach the top of with your thumb or no bezels or face recognition unlock only (and I'm not into any of that). If they allow us to sideload (outside of that cumbersome dev account method) I may very well switch to the SE.
Damn, this transports me back in the day to when delta was still gba4ios and all the jailbreaking I did just to maintain the emulator. I would say though that ultimately a JB was way too much work to upkeep month after month, ios release after release. And even if it is slow, most of the very popular stuff ends up as a feature. Remember f.lux? Dark mode themes? Less obtrusive volume icons, etc etc. Im glad emulation is finally making its way into official channels about a decade later.
Finally time to switch back to iphone. Was waiting for this! I loved jailbreaking my old phones and ipods to do this. Happy it's finally official on the store w/o work arounds. Will miss android - but emulation is the really the only reason i've stayed this long.

You can make Delta on the iPad full screen by using the 3 finger zoom gesture in the accessibility settings. Really good workaround until they release full iPad support!
This is awesome. Set mine up while I watched the video 😁
One thing you missed in the video. I just plugged my iPhone 15 Pro into a USB-C/Thunderbolt Display and it put the game on the external display, provided power to my phone, and I could use the controller on the phone.
This was on an ultra wide LG display. Pretty dang neat!
I’m going to try it tonight on my Steam Deck dock to my 1080p TV and see if it charges AND works with the external display.
I watched this video as an Android User to solely support your Channel, also liked and shared that is all😂
Very solid and thorough review of the Delta app and controller setups. Good job Russ
It just took 20 years. PROGRESS!
Lmao
Been available since iPhone 4 with jailbreaks. Try to keep up.
@@alainchristian have to jailbreak the phones ever few weeks... seems like you guys have never been able to keep up
Already got Delta day one(and used to side load it). Still watching. Now just changed some artwork because I knew I would learn something new. It’s also fun to Airplay to a TV and use a controller and just have a multi Nintendo console
I adore the way you talk about the analogue pocket 😊
Nintendo is crying right now
And I love that
@@cloudy6256 how sad are you? Just because Nintendo wants to protect their IP particularly with the switch but I do agree Nintendo is going too far when it comes to emulation of the old systems.
I'm not an iPhone user but I'm here to support all the emulation, regardless of platform!
I have this downloaded from the Apple AppStore, and I’m in the UK. So it is there now.
I cant find it
UK is not part of the EU
it's a good enough app for a quick retro gaming fix but nothing beats physical buttons
Welcome to the Android world... at least a tiny bit of it
ahhh yeah the Android nation, more emulators more simple
@@aaronwise1089 yea, wake me up when RetroArch with retroachievements, PPSSPP, Citra, Yuzu/Skyline, Dolphin etc are on iOS
I am iPhone user and Delta so far has been amazing
Alhamdulelah such a joy
Once we got a couple more official emulators on the App Store (assuming that we will) I would love to see an updated/redux version of your “IPhone as a retro handheld video” from a few years ago. That was the video that sold me on the potential of this and led me to buying a Backbone, and that was back when side-loading was still somewhat of a hassle. Awesome to see how far we’ve come and exciting for the future considering newer iPhones have some pretty powerful chips
I'm a Android user, soo CONGRATULATIONS IOS users!!!
I'm personally an android user, but I think it cool that iPhone users finally can use emulators officially on their devices.
Where do I get the games
Look up Vimms lair and ur good
Google “nintendo roms”
Delta is really fun for me. It works really well and runs just like the native console.
It is available in Europe just not the EU. I’ve got a U.K. Apple account and I’ve downloaded the Delta app directly.
Brexit for the win! 😅
As an android user who plays with a lot of emulators, it feels pretty nice to see that iPhones are getting emulator support easily now. I hope it would bridge the gap and it would make switching to iOS easier for someone who plays a lot on emulators.
50 cent per download is like unity's game engine ruthless policy.
Not Delta's choice though...I think EU has some extra regulations.
Come on dolphin ❤️
This has breathed new life into my old iphone 8. Granted, I'm only using it as a GBA now. But at least it's not collecting dust anymore.
That's not quite right. Delta's developer could have released Delta for free in Europe if he wanted, but chose to put it on his AltStore.
@@edmundroth6337
It isn't greedy at all.
I JUST SIDELOADED THIS 2 DAYS AGO NOW YOURE TELLING ME I DIDNT NEED TO DO ALLAT XD
Already downloaded in case Nintendo kills this soon
This is an awesome summer present for me dude. I have iPhones because my kids and wife and everyone else has iPhones for FaceTime ease of use… as a retro gamer I’m so happy :)
Where do I get roms?
Have you tried… googling?
Thanks to your good self I have everything I could need on my Steam Deck, via Emulation Station, but as you say the phone is even more portable that the Steam Deck is and is with me everywhere.
Also, I’m in the UK and Delta is there. I got it yesterday.
Never immerse yourself fully into a company's ecosystem
IMO most people just can’t be bothered to change to a whole new OS
I think the best use case for me here is DS. I have a Miyoo Mini Plus for GBA mostly, and have used it for DS emulation before with pokemon games, but being able to use touch screen and have both screens visible in this format is definitely the best use case for me. I’m happy this is finally here
Have u played any ds Pokémon games and gotten a error that says communication error has occurred if u have u fixed it lmk pls. Thank you !
@@ruizx-xp5kn no I have not. Been playing a romhack of HeartGold called PureHeart and not having any issues

I was looking for a budget friendly option to take on the go, but seeing that I can now Retro game on my phone - this is incredible. Thank you so much for this video!!! =D
Touch controls are gross.
Use an Xbox controller. Currently playing Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days with mine and it’s completely changed the game, metaphorically and literally speaking lol
@@HeddaToast Absolutely! I don't really game on my phone though, I'm mainly on on PC, but if I did game on my phone I definitely would use a controller for sure.
Again, your videos are a life saver. Thanks for doing a video on Delta.
Am i the only one whos kinda annoyed at the hype im seeing for this? I know its dumb to be annoyed and people are valid for being excited.... But if you had an android phone since like 2008 youve had emulators on your phone lmao.
iphones are nice and having emulators is nice, now you dont have to choose
Shhhh 😂😂😂 let them have their moment , btw 06* not 08 lol ive gotten Diamond & pearl Jap release .
@@samcandlesyou still do .. no psp , dream cast . Dolphin 3ds or yuzu (the switch)
Many people don’t have an android phone so for a lot of people this is great.
@@Chris-cx6wl yea ... Following the trend 🤣🤣
I remember using delta like a decade ago back before I gave up jailbreaking and switched to android. Crazy to see how times have changed.
I absolutely love Delta. Really wish it did more consoles but with my snes style 8bitdo it’s insane.
I downloaded Delta purely for DS emulation because DS isn’t supported on the Vita. This opens up a whole new section of game options I didn’t have before
Don't forget you can also screen mirror to an Apple TV or MacBook for a larger screen!
My biggest complaint about Delta is no shaders to alter the image. It's one way of viewing and I really love CRT and LCD filter
Finally, this ends my struggle of buying an android phone or retro handheld to play retro games. Great news and thanks for demo the app.
thank you! was struggling to find those files, much appreciated brotha 😎
17:15 Thanks for the recommendation Russ, I ordered this one last night!
I had resigned myself to never really playing the earlier handheld games (I have a 2ds but nothing earlier.)
I now have a decent gba and ds library and am playing Phoenix Wright for the first time and loving it!!
love that you can import the boxart directly from search
Ok, one of my favorite Nintendo games was WarioWear Twister. It had this funky cart that I would drop into my GB Micro and off I’d go on my commute. To play the game, you had to physically move the whatever handheld you dropped it into. The cartridge had a motion detector and would know when you were shaking it. Anyway, I have been jonesing to play it for a long time and I loaded the rom into Delta and lo and behold, the game worked and the shake function worked perfectly. So much fun. If you can get a hold of it, you should def try it.
1 more feature worth mentioning is being able to stream the screen to a tv and play with a controller, get that 50” Pokémon experience...
Huge pixels
As someone who has an old iphone X, this is a good option for retired phones. Hate to see an OLED screen go to waste.
its great that we have so many options to play retro games now.
Just downloaded after watching this video! ❤
It's good for people thst want it, but I'm personally happy with handhelds now. They feel do much more robust and compact with the physical buttons.
Finally time to switch back to iphone. Was waiting for this!
I loved jailbreaking my old phones and ipods to do this. Happy it's finally official on the store w/o work arounds.
Will miss android - but emulation is the really the only reason i've stayed this long.
Man thanks you saved me i love playing all my retro games straight from my iphone 😮
