LOVE these 2 goofy Review Cats & with this said Comparing Stella to Men Don’t Leave is sacrilege. Men Don’t Leave is phenomenal. Stella is a Hallmark movie at best. MDL is a hard movie told softly and that for an hr. & 55 minutes pumps oxygen & humanity back into an increasingly angry & airless world + a score by Thomas Newman arguably the king maestro of all Hollywood score creators.
I love what Roger said at the end of the show, which is if anybody sees both Stella and Men Don't Leave, he wants to know what they think and to write in care of your local station. Wonder if anyone did that?
Couldn’t agree with Siskel more. “Men Don’t Leave” didn’t have schmaltz. “Stella” was pure schmaltz. It was an extremely good picture. I respected and admire the Chris O’Donnell/Arliss Howard scene tremendously. Dealt with high school students for nearly 35 years, and, yes, that scene felt very real.
“Jody: Would you like a Pelegrino? - Chris Macauley: Is that beer? - Jody: No, it's bottled mineral water. - Chris Macauley: Oh, yeah. Yeah, sure. Those are really good. - Jody: You're really sweet. I'll get you a juice.”
Oh, do shut Roger😊. This is about real people. No 'over the top" romantic, fake characters. It's about a core group, all struggling from tragedy. (Even the nurse's life is a band-aid of lonliness). All of them tentative, fearful people just wanting to move forward. All doing do it w/ their unique individual skill sets, & also trying to help one another when strength allows. There are no promises that blue skies ahead. All we're given is that the characters, (even Cusack), live in reality & are going to keep fighting to pull some semblance of a lost "normal" back together & hopefully a reality that once again includes a little happiness for these characters.

Fantastic film; Lange and Cusack should've got Oscar nods.
I miss those 2. Legendary critics!

Love that movie
I agree with Gene.
It's REALLY comical how these two argue over some stupid movie...
