This video is amazing and very exciting for me because I was born near the Espartaco sugar mill. My father and many of my relatives worked there. I had rides on those machines. The place you see at minute 9.29 minute is actually the place where I was born, it's called Paso del Medio. This is very special to me, thank you.
I am pleased you liked my video and that it brought back childhood memories. I very much enjoyed my five visits to Cuba. Very friendly people, helpful mill staff and a wonderful mixture of steam locomotives. That is why the visits were called Steam in Paradise.
@@blackthorne57 I can't thank you enough, this is without a doubt the only video out there of the place where I was born and raised. At that time no one there had a camera and cell phones did not exist. This video is a treasure. THANKS
Excellent photography and video. Is this steam engines are in use today?it looks like that time has fridged. You have also shoot nearby happenings. That's all wonderful and supporting. Thanks BT57.
Thanks for your kind comments. Steam is no longer used to haul sugar cane trains in Cuba. There are however many preserved steam locomotives. Most are not is working order but a few attached to museums may be steamed. Marcello Salado Sugar Industry Museum probably the best.

Yes, there are several museums in Cuba with steam locomotives but only a few in working order. Marcelo Salado Sugar Museum and José Smith Comas Mill used to have working steam locos. Also there used to be locos dumped a few sugar mills There may be up to 200 in various states of repair or dereliction.
Que tiempos aquellos que no volverán.

why spray water under the locomotives?
Do you mean at about 6 minutes? If so, the loco's water tank is being refilled, what you see is water running down from an overfilled tank.
Were any of these saved?
