ABOUT YASU:
Yasu Jordan Sato is a Japanese Car Designer that moved to Los Angeles at 8 months old…not by himself, of course - his parents took him there and in doing so, he became a California native.
Like many of my brilliant guests, Yasu studied at Art Center in Pasadena and took with him the seeds that are now blooming with his own brilliance.
He interned with Mercedes at their Advanced studio in Carlsbad many moons ago and was fortunate enough to work on the Silver Arrow Concept. I use the clichéd phrase ‘fortunate enough’, because it was an incredible project to work on as an intern and he was very earnest in describing this.
After a brief stint at Toyota’s Calty Design Center, thereafter, Yasu went on to spend over 8 years at Renault where he eventually landed up working in Stefan Janin’s team and it was here that he led the exterior design of the EZ ULTIMO concept.
Yasu is now more than a year into his latest role as an Exterior Creative Design Manager at Bentley, and being the city boy that he is, has opted to live in Manchester as apposed to some of the swanky villages surrounding Crewe.
We spoke for over 2 hours, despite a dodgy line. Yasu is an absolute gentleman and very skilled at turning the focus of the conversation back onto the unsuspecting host.

ABOUT ME:
I am a South African Designer, Digital Modeller and the host of Crown Unfiltered.
I will be talking to a cross-section of people that work in the Car Design Industry. These will include designers, digital and clay modellers, vis artists and colour & material designers. The focus of our conversations will be centered around personal processes and experiences within the business.
My aim is to demystify some of the preconceptions about this industry and give people an unadulterated glimpse into the business. I also wish to give the younger generation the opportunity to see that the people that these professionals come in different shapes and sizes and some of them will be unknown. The intention is to see that you should always be yourself and not let your job define or change who you are.
