I've struggled with anxiety and depression throughout times in life, it's never easy. A book called "The Jesus Response" by John Pohl was super helpful. It was like Jesus was talking straight to me. It's a comforting book.

Thank you for this teaching. I went through this teaching along with 1st Timothy 6 verses 9 and 10 and God is show me some things about myself. Because I have desired to have money and wealth and it consumes much of my time and energy I have definitely had to come to terms with the fact that I love money and the Lord is rebuking and correcting me and showing me why my life is such a mess. I plan on continuing to study this in depth with prayer and make some real changes in my heart and life by Gods grace. God bless you my brother.

The eye can also be the "I" or ego. We are all guided by that one voice (our lantern) and choose where to point it. You can choose to point your lantern to carnal things, or to heavenly things. One way is a well lit path, another is dark.

FYI, there are many things Christians completely miss out on because we don't know the idioms or the customs given the Chosen People - the Jews by God. For instance, Golgotha where Yeshua was crucified, means the "Place of the Skull." It's NOT because that hill resembles a skull, it's because when David slew Goliath in the name of the God of Isra'el, that is where he buried Goliath's skull! The eye being the lamp of the body involves a Jewish idiom: a "good eye" means Generous, Kind, Caring, which a "bad eye" means Stingy, Hoarding, Self-Centered. You can find this in The Complete Jewish Bible translation. We lost insights such as these when the Romans commandeered the Christian Church and drove out all the Jewish believers early in Church history! We need the Jews back, so thank God He's bringing them back through organizations like ONEforIsrael.org Your Bible study was very good, I enjoyed it, even though I've been a Christian for over 50 years. I’ve studied the Hebrew and Greek and I tell you true many places in these new translations are grossly inaccurate and misleading.
If your eye be single (focused on Christ and His words/instructions)
Your body is full of light. / truth!
If your eye be focused on the world, your body will be full of darkness. For the world only offers darkness. There is no light in it.
There is only light in Christ.

I thought it was “eye be single” rather than “eye be healthy”.
Maybe it’s a different version?
Either way, “eye be single” implies focus, where “eye be healthy” implies other things.
A concordance study would be interesting here.

Luke 11:34 seems to be saying that one should put first things first. Instead of loving yourself, love God through loving others.

God is not going to force any one to read the word of God. Revelation 1.5 And his feet like unto fine brass as if they burned in a furnace and his voice as the sound of many waters. Ezekiel 3.12 then the spirit took me up and I heard behind me a voice of a great rushing saying Blessed be the glory of the Lord from his place. Timely message for me this week. Absolutely stressed about our financial situations and my focus has been on money as the answer to my anxiety about it, instead of God.
I agree with you but like to add the following :
Matt 5:14-16
You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven
In addition to all you've said, the eye and lamp are supposed to work towards helping people in doing good deeds, and that's how our lamp will shine and how we build for ourselves, treasures In heaven.
Remember, the judgement of the sheep and goats. Jesus put the sheep on his right and said I was hungry and you fed me, I was thirsty, and you gave me drink, I was in prison, and you visited me. The sheep said to the Lord but when did we do this to you and Jesus replied in as much as you did it to the least of them you did it to me.
Yea, so that's what it's all about, doing good works and seeing a need and meeting it.
Asides from accepting Jesus as our Lord and saviour, we are to operate in Love always. This is what will determine where we will be placed in the ages to come (I mean the level of grace, comfort etc)

The way I explained this from Luke "if you have a good eye your body is full of light if you have a bad eye your body is full of darkness don't let your light be darkness" so the future is anxiety the past is depression if you can try to remember the past in your mind you constrictor your eye constricts if you look at the future like what are you going to do next week your eye will dilate . To make a comparison to spring fever or looking forward to vacation or spring break or a holiday. Anyway let's say spring break looking forward to excited maybe sleepless but you end up doing things you wouldn't normally do so your light becomes darkness. A Holiday family gathering can be hard for some because of past mishaps so worries can cause anxiety. Trying to explain the minds eye close your eyes and look at the future and then the past. It's been over 30 years since I tried to teach God's Mysterys no Internet and people never stuck with it they all backslid

Should I think that having a job that brings in money is a sin? Or do I keep working hard because I know that proverbs tells us that working hard is good, but while I have money, look to God, and heavenly treasures and don’t look at treasures on earth. Then my eye will be healthy and my heart set on treasures in heaven.

The eyes are to see the 3D world, the eye (pineal gland) is your spiritual eye. "If thine eye be single" is the 1st or 3rd eye aka pineal gland

Some of us don't want money for fancy things some of us need money to pay our rent to pay our electric bills to pay our water bills, not everybody looks at money as in they need it to look fancy or try to dress to impress!
The pursuit of money itself (for whatever reason) in place of God is never ok. I understand the genuine need and not everyone is trying to be fancy, but that’s not the point. The point is how do you view money as you try to follow Christ?
