Our 2006 RX 400 H has over 307,000 miles on it and it still doing great! It’s on the original battery and the battery is still working perfectly. The trick for long life is buying a quality vehicle and then maintaining it properly. As for the battery be sure you vacuum out and keep the rear vents clean and the battery will last a long time!
The hybrid battery on my 2007 RX400h was replaced by the dealer four years ago at 268,000 miles. We're now at 308,000 miles and still going strong. Still drives smooth, everything still works, interior's still nice, transmission's still perfect and engine still uses no oil. Half of me wants to upgrade to a newer one but the other half asks, why?
Very impressive I bought 2006 Lexus RX 400h from Ohio September, 2017 with 286,026 miles on it. It's a one owner vehicle, very well maintained, super clean in and out with a great performance, right now it's showing 291,689. Thanks for your video.
@@RoopsPhoto I have a RX with almost 200k miles and I consulted a hybrid battery rebuilder in case I need it. He told me it will never needs a replacement if you drive it everyday (longer the better) and make sure the battery cooling system is clean.
Hopefully my 2008 rx400h with 180,760 miles will be the last car i own! Thanks to your 2013 video about laying the seat flat, I was able to use it as my camper-car on a solo cross-country trip :)
Hybrid battery failures do happen at lower mileages, but it's just as rare as an engine failing at lower mileages, and typically only a single battery cell goes bad and not the entire pack. Toyota/Lexus batteries have an excellent lifespan because of how well controlled the charge & discharge cycles are. Some older Honda hybrids have been the exception to this as their design brought the battery to maximum and minimum charge levels too frequently and longevity suffered. Most manufacturers follow (or even license) Toyota's hybrid designs.
I have a Lexus 400h with a wood steering wheel and wood shifter, it's an option. I have 147k miles on it still runs like new--smooth and quiet with enough pep to beat just about anybody off the line, except Tesla's. :) My dad put: 450k miles on his Chevy truck and it wasn't near the quality of a Lexus. Cars will usually keep going, for almost-ever, if you service them right and drive gently.
Well they have machines to sync the battery cells up to each other. plus get a used battery with warranty for 3 years then you prob wont be disappointed
190,000 on my 2006 RX400h as of May 2023. I've replaced neither battery... or brakes. Aside from a slight steering drift issue, the car has been flawless. Easily the best car purchase I have ever made. I'm still getting 24 MPG plus.
Driver Lexus, 😂😂🤣🤣🤣 ! Quote of the week 👌🏾👍🏽. I'd like to see a BMW or Audi last that long without the owner having to have the damn car towed to the dealer/ live at the damm dealership ! Those two brands are lease only !
A Scott especially bmw, utter rubbish in reliability, I’ve paid more money than the car new over a 3 years period in fixing! Had two bmw and will never touch again! Biggest piece of shit ever
my Accord did 340,000 miles before I sold it. Same gearbox, same engine...just routine maintenance. The new owner just wanted a cheap run-around car and was shocked at how the engine purred. Oil change is the key ! both engine and transmission oil.
Your videos are fantastic- always nice to see when you've published something new. I bought a slightly used RX 450H, and was wondering how many miles I could go until battery replacement- I'm amazed at the miles on this car! Thanks again for the great work.
I have been driving Toyota/Lexus hybrid for last 10 years. In my opinion the battery is good for 300k-350k at least. Again, you also need to take care of the hybrid cooling fan/vent.
That’s 411 thousand km and still running like brand new that’s a true quality product and reliability wise by the world legend in car business only you can get this with LEXUS no one else Lexus IS a trusted brand for sure 👍👍👍👍👍
My brother in Laws car Honda Accord 1995 had 500,000 Kilometres on the clock when he traded it. He kept it serviced with what the factory manual said at the right time. Key to maintenance free driving is servicing according to manufacturers specifications. Problem is many people don't because they can't be bothered, are ill informed or the servicing is too expensive.
Hybrid batteries last by years, not by miles. High mileage vehicles usually have freeway miles and the battery is only moderately used when slowing down and speeding up. Low mileage vehicles usually have local miles and the batteries are used extensively in stop-and-go traffic. The batteries in all 12 year old hybrids are similar, regardless of the mileage.
Great video, and great used RX. I agree that proper maintenance is the key, but sadly too many service centers and repair shops make it a goal to rip people off. The fear of getting taken advantage of scares people who can’t afford to be ripped off. I’ve worked around the car business and talked to many people who fear dealerships and service centers more than dentists or the boogeyman! Sad that businesses do that so there aren’t more cars like this RX on the road today.
Great point, my friend. It is truly unfortunate. This is one of the biggest reasons I work for Lexus and no other brand. I have found that Lexus, for the most part, has an incredible trustworthiness that allows clients for a wonderful, trusting relationship. I do appreciate your thoughts and great contribution to the conversation! Brock
Bought my RX400h 2005 with 278.000 kms almost 4 years ago, still on original traction battery, now with 381.000 kms, that is almost 237k miles. Not as clean as hers though, that one is stunning for its mileage.
Ha! I've got a 2004 RX330 with 350k miles. Still running great. It's not rare to find 10 yo Lexus this clean. The reason, if the car is reliable (not causing all kinds of headache) the owner tends to take good care of it.
You should see the 2007 RX 400h we just bought late last month. 174200 miles and it's just in fantastic condition. Runs like a top as my dad used to say and since we don't drive that many miles, we could get many years out of this beautiful Bamboo Pearl Lexus.
Just bought the same year and color with 77k miles, but it's a super clean rx 350. Only issue is peeling clear coat on the plastics... Anyone have that issue as the paint is pristine otherwise?
I have a 2008 Lexus rx 400h hybrid and i love it and i do get many people wanting to buy it but i refuse to sell or trade it in cause it has never given me any problems
Real car enthusiasts know that with Lexus, owners will get years and hundreds of thousands of miles out of their cars, provided they keep with the maintenance! A true test of quality ! I've yet to hear this same story out of anything European, except Mercedes Benz ! Sadly, most people just gas and go ! Some never even wash and wax their cars. Smh !!!
EXACTLY! I see it all the time. I mostly see Lexus people who take really good care of their cars but occasionally I will see folks who don't service them or keep them clean... Makes me appreciate my car even more. I think I'll go clean her up now! Thanks for contributing to the conversation, my friend! Brock
I have a 2013 450h with 39,000 miles. Original msrp $57.5k. I bought it in 2015 with 18k miles on it. The original owner ordered it and it must have been the last 13 made because the plate says 7/13/13 for manufacture date. Didn't make it to the USA until September and wasn't titled until December of 13. I am thinking of trading it for a pick up truck (which I drove for 40 years) but I know it's going to last forever. I do synthetic oil change and all of the filters myself, the white parchment leather is as new. It's been (by me) clay barred, polished (Meguiar's Ultimate Polish) and Quick and Slick to finish and maintain mirror shine. The claret mica metallic is beautiful in sunlight. I got stopped in the neighborhood at a speed trap and as the cop was writing out the ticket he wanted me to verify it was a 2013 lol. The only option I I wanted but did not get is the Levinson sound system.
Secret to a clean car-no food including soda in the car and seat covers for the first 10 years. We only allow on road trips water, raw vegetables and crackers that are not greasy in our cars and a lot of wet wipes for little and big fingers, wax the outside annually and wash weekly the outside with water only and wipe down everything inside with the damp towel that you dried the car and change the oil when the maintenance light comes on. Our cars never rust and we have a a 19 year old Chev Silverado (original owner) that looks like it is 2 years old. Sugar and other sticky foods attracts dirt and before you know it you are driving in a trashed car.
I own 2 of them a 2006 400H and a 2007 400H and never had an issue other than the vacuum canister on the 06 for the fuel supply went out and on occasion the check hybrid light putting it into limp mode but I pull the battery cable and it clears the issue. I am almost ready to buy a newer one
My dad bought my mom a 25,000 mile RX400h in 2009 which was passed on to my older sister in 2014. Traded it for a GLK at 164,000 miles because it was time for an upgrade. Kids destroyed that car and so did the automatic car washes, but that car didn’t have any trips to the shop other than maintenance!
Milage has nothing to do with the life span of the Hybrid battery. It's the age. You can drive indefinite miles. The average life span is about 10-11 years. The middle cell modules degrade faster than the outer surrounded ones due to heat. It's usually a couple modules that will get so low that it throws the entire pack out balance causing it to fail.
I have a 2006 rx400h with 250k miles. And it has wood trim shifter and steering wheel. Just bought a rx350 f sport. Lexus and toyota are way ahead of their time on technology and over engineering their hybrid systems. Wish they would come out with an electric or plug in one. My next car will be a rx450h f sport
He did answer the question. This vehicle is 12 years old and the battery has lasted 12 years. Mileage is over 256k, so most (if taken care of), will probably last just as long. But your "Mileage May Vary".
I totally agree! Usually on vehicles with this much use the interior is absolutely disgusting. This one was totally mint! Thank you for stopping by, and contributing to the conversation!
mine's closing in on 200K. Looks almost as good as her's but mine has been on the Dempster Hwy, over Ophir Pass and out to Toroweap, WHILE hauling a paramotor and outboard engine INSIDE it. I love the acceleration, best by far of three different RXs that we've had. Lexus has goofed BIGLY on their NAV interface though and it will prevent me from getting another...unless they fix it.
+David M. Kessler Fine Art Great point! I realized after I published it that I didn't even mention the original battery! Yes, I has the original hybrid battery. Actually, the Lexus hybrid system has an 8yr/100,000 mi warranty. Thanks for stopping by!
If the engine has a 60/mile warranty and toyota/lexus engine are known for their 500,000+ mileage, then a 100,000 mile warranty on a battery should last even longer.
The battery on these kind of cars are most likely going to get 200k plus miles, even if you had to replace the battery or fix the battery cells these cars will still run over 300k miles, making well worth the fix no way to go run on a Lexus/toyota Hybrid. They will always pay off in the long run.
well even toyota/lexus normal batterys are good. mine is still original and 11 years old 290k km on clock and its all a DIESEL, so the battery will get more abuse on cold starts. still starts with -20C
Great video, you made me want to take care of my 2007 GS450H so it last a looooong time. It is at 14xxxx now. Dealer replaced hybrid battery at 9xxxx miles.
I stumbled across your channel not too long ago and saw your video where you toured the Lexus maintenance training facility. Very impressive and I subscribed. And so the money question: How much for the 400h?
+Eagle Vision Excellent! Thank you so much for subscribing and for the kind words! And, sadly, the 400h has been sent to the auction. Don't know what it sold for but somebody got a great vehicle!
The Lexus RX350, Toyota highlander are based on the Toyota Kruger, which sold on other worldly markets. The Toyota Kruger is built for Australia's harsh desert environment. So that's this Lexus RX lasted for so long
I love this era of Lexus although I haven't quite got to the point where I would be a Lexus shopper so even the old ones are an aspiration. Brock I just found out you've moved on, best of luck in your new career.
Wondering how does it charge the battery. I plan on purchasing my first Lexus RX and I’m considering the 450h. My biggest obstacle is convincing the husband. Love your videos btw. Very informative.
Brock if you think this mileage is surprising, how about a 1999 Lexus LS 400 with 500,000 miles? Surprising, huh? Well that's just what Johnson Lexus of Raleigh posted on their Facebook page yesterday, "a 1999 LS 400 in for its 500,000 mile service!" Words cannot explain how good that car looks for it's age and mileage. Johnson Lexus of Raleigh: facebook.com/JohnsonLexus/
Not unheard of for Towncars and CrownVics to hit that mileage. In the 2000s Lexus and Lincoln were tied for reliability. The Ford 4.6L V8 had no VVTs and could run forever.
looks like you could have sold this one 3 times over, 4 times if you count me. I guessing your used car manager didn't want it on the lot. Keep up the good work Brock. By the way, its because of you I'm looking of a 2004 -6 LS 430. "best Lexus ever made"
WOW! I can't thank you enough for your kind words! If you get an LS 430 you'll be SO happy - I think it really is the best Lexus ever made! Thanks again for stopping by and I hope you have a wonderful day, my friend!
How Long Will A Hybrid Battery Last?...Misleading. There is also a finite time element to how long a hybrid battery will last. Likely the battery is almost shot.... would have been nice to see a diagnostic on the battery.
im surprised no one has mentioned anything about having their timing belt replaced. i believe recommended service is at 60Kmi but i've read owners changed them out at 180kmi and belt still looked new. i myself is going on 155k miles.
lien302 are the hybrids RX not chain? Is it any more different or expensive to change the belts on this? Puts off buying used ones of that's expensive. Also water pump and electric motors to charge the battery can go tits up I guess?? Hmm
I hate salesmen. I have a 2007 prius and after about 150K and 8 years of use, the battery pack needs constant cell replacement (and no, I can't afford to replace the whole pack one shot). Those cells just don't last. If you tell me this 2007 R400h uses different cells and they are better, then, I might be interested. Otherwise, it is just a salesman talking, hiding all the facts.
Lexus vehicles in general are bullet proof cars. They run forever. My friend has a 2008 is250 with almost 300K miles and has no problems besides some minor rust on the bottom. He does the regular maintenance and that's how it runs. All cars last long with proper maintenance.....unless it's a Chrysler 😂😂
EXCELLENT! I would love to hear from you when it does hit 500k! Maybe we can do a collab video on it! I want to show people other brands that can last hundreds of thousands of miles. Thanks for contributing to the conversation and keep it up, my friend! Brock
Nooooooo wayyyyyyyy!!!!! For real??? Please let me know bcuz I just purchased my first Lexus RX400h 2006, about a week ago and I got it at 192,500, miles... Please tell me I shouldn't be scared to drive my baby, bcuz I love driving out of town and often and I already have a 2005 Toyota Sienna XLE, at 215,000+ miles and still going strong
And, worth every penny of that 61.5K! Especially when you campare it (with all of the options included) to the Mercedes G-class, BMW X series or the Infiniti QX, which are all fine vehicles in their own right.
Great questions. She averaged about 27 mpg. Unfortunately, we already sold it but I don't know how much b/c we sold it at the auction... Thanks for stopping by!

Indeed, the best hybrid maker.
Batteries on Hybrids now are nothing to worry over. The individual cells can be replaced for relatively cheap when they finally quit.
can that be done at a Lexus dealership?

I have a 2006 rx400h with 250k miles. And it has wood trim shifter and steering wheel. Just bought a rx350 f sport. Lexus and toyota are way ahead of their time on technology and over engineering their hybrid systems. Wish they would come out with an electric or plug in one. My next car will be a rx450h f sport
You failed to answer the MAIN QUESTION: how long will a "hybrid battery" Last?
He did answer the question. This vehicle is 12 years old and the battery has lasted 12 years. Mileage is over 256k, so most (if taken care of), will probably last just as long. But your "Mileage May Vary".
He answered it at 5:36.
JTC Intl he did answer it. Said if u service it as per recommendation then it will last long :P
We just need to derive long into some numbers :P
JTC Intl AND does this car have the original batteries???...... Major topic to leave up for assumption.
At least 250k miles in this case
Impeccable! The exterior is amazing, and the interior looks brand new. How much would it cost to do some minor touch-ups on the paint job?
I'm impressed with how well the light interior looks!
I totally agree! Usually on vehicles with this much use the interior is absolutely disgusting. This one was totally mint! Thank you for stopping by, and contributing to the conversation!
Fast forward to 2021, my 2008 Rx400H is still as good as NEW. 81K miles on the clock.
mine's closing in on 200K.
I'm at 205,000kms on my 2013 RX450h. That's about half of this beauty, but still rides like new.
Toyota engines seems to me so far to be very reliable. Had German then turned to Japanese. Never lets me down.
Ours has the Navigation Package on it and it does have heated seats, so it's a good question why this one doesn't.
Nice job, Brock...I'm getting hooked to watching your videos, love your style! P.S.: 2017 RX owner here, and very happy with my Lexus!
Thank you so much, Eugene! I am very grateful for your support! Don't you just LOVE your RX? What color?
@@HowToCarGuy Nebula gray pearl, with stratus gray leather interior and back trim. And yes, I LOVE this car!
What privilege to trade a car in such beautiful condition
Brock, you didn’t say if the car had the original battery, most manufacturers say 5-8 years for battery life. Does it have the original battery?
+David M. Kessler Fine Art Great point! I realized after I published it that I didn't even mention the original battery! Yes, I has the original hybrid battery. Actually, the Lexus hybrid system has an 8yr/100,000 mi warranty. Thanks for stopping by!
HowToCarGuy I appreciate the answer. Amazing durability. We have two Lexus vehicles and can’t imagine buying anything else.
Amazing video, exactly what I was looking for before I buy a Lexus UX
I have one that is a 2008 400h it has 320000 in that shape
how many times did you have to replace the battery and how much?
Great video, you made me want to take care of my 2007 GS450H so it last a looooong time. It is at 14xxxx now. Dealer replaced hybrid battery at 9xxxx miles.
the battery went at 90K ? how common is that?
How much did that cost?
Thank you for your great video, I will definitely switch my NX200t to a hybrid version when the lease expired.
That's awesome! Thank you for the kind words and I know you'll enjoy any Lexus that you get!!
This video is a testament, both to the renowned Lexus-durability and to the meticulous nature of this lady.
VEE-HICKLE
She country! It's so cute.
Lexus now is what Daimler used to be decades ago, super durable, but with much better reliability.
That's a great point! Thanks for the contribution!
Good question,I FB messaged you a couple days ago about this hybrid situation.
Good video I just got an ES hybrid
My dad drove an Infiniti Qx4 until it got totaled at 325k miles no problems
I have wood shifter and wood steering wheel on my 2008 Lexus RX400h
Chris Miller me too, I guess we have fake hybrids 😂
So that's this Lexus RX lasted for so long
How much did she get on a trade in?😂😂😂
I love this era of Lexus although I haven't quite got to the point where I would be a Lexus shopper so even the old ones are an aspiration. Brock I just found out you've moved on, best of luck in your new career.
Thank you!
@@HowToCarGuy nice of u to reply GBU
woah incredible.. i might just buy one of these.
Wondering how does it charge the battery. I plan on purchasing my first Lexus RX and I’m considering the 450h. My biggest obstacle is convincing the husband. Love your videos btw. Very informative.
On mines, it charges on its own, as u drive. It switches from gas to battery ussage, on its own.... Loving it❤️💯
Brock if you think this mileage is surprising, how about a 1999 Lexus LS 400 with 500,000 miles? Surprising, huh? Well that's just what Johnson Lexus of Raleigh posted on their Facebook page yesterday, "a 1999 LS 400 in for its 500,000 mile service!" Words cannot explain how good that car looks for it's age and mileage.
Johnson Lexus of Raleigh:
facebook.com/JohnsonLexus/
You've probably never heard of Matt Farah... He's got an LS400 with 930,000 miles!
JDMSteven wow! With Original engine and transmission?
I'm assuming it is, Ivan. Johnson Lexus didn't provide any information on that, but I assume that everything was original.
That's amazing!!! I didn't know a car or motor could go that long.
Not unheard of for Towncars and CrownVics to hit that mileage. In the 2000s Lexus and Lincoln were tied for reliability. The Ford 4.6L V8 had no VVTs and could run forever.
My 2007 lexus hybrid with less than 90K miles just underwent a hybrid battery replacement for deterioration, not failure...
looks like you could have sold this one 3 times over, 4 times if you count me.
They also have a slight blue tint to the headlights and tale lights
Hmm
The timing belt replacement for the RX400H is recommended every 90k miles.
That chopped up driver seat can be replaced, from new ones, on Ebay.
So, does that mean its super rare to have 256k on a hybrid Lexus battery? What is the residual capacity of the battery? "Service...line 1"...
Good one lmao
I have a prius c 2012. Over 220k. Never changed battery. Or breaks. Just putting it out there. Toyota hybrid systems are king of the long road.
Traded my 2004 Malibu Maxx off at 255K. Still ran great. Wasn't as clean as this Lexus, tho.
My 03 Altima has 428k miles. It's all original except of alternator. I'm curious if it will hit 500k miles without many problems if any🤔🤔🤔
EXCELLENT! I would love to hear from you when it does hit 500k! Maybe we can do a collab video on it! I want to show people other brands that can last hundreds of thousands of miles. Thanks for contributing to the conversation and keep it up, my friend!
Brock
PLATINUM Do you use conventional oil or synthetic?
425,000 with maintenance
Nooooooo wayyyyyyyy!!!!! For real??? Please let me know bcuz I just purchased my first Lexus RX400h 2006, about a week ago and I got it at 192,500, miles... Please tell me I shouldn't be scared to drive my baby, bcuz I love driving out of town and often and I already have a 2005 Toyota Sienna XLE, at 215,000+ miles and still going strong
It's just a amazing car and a good video, thanks!
A Lexus RX 450H 2013 with 98,000 miles is it worth buy with that miles on it ? 15k$
Best Hybrid Rx450h... best car...
My is last model 2013 Rx450h
Made in Japan.
72k miles today.
But rx350/450h 2014+ up all made in Canada lol.
Mine is a 2006 w188000 miles it runs perfect going 120 on the freeway like new am selling it right now bought a newer version 2014 rx350
How much I want
My 2004 Prius has 250,000 miles on it but it still moves like a new one.
What’s the price of the car with that package new 450h ? That’s crazy depends how we all maintain as u said 👍
+regi mathew Great question! The MSRP of the RX450h was $61,500.00. What an incredible machine!
And, worth every penny of that 61.5K! Especially when you campare it (with all of the options included) to the Mercedes G-class, BMW X series or the Infiniti QX, which are all fine vehicles in their own right.
Which car fares better if you have to leave it sitting parked outside for weeks at a time in the sun, the regular RX 350 or the Hybrid, please?
That still has a lot more miles to go
+Wade Higgins Yes sir, it does!
Master certified salesman! Credentials
Noticed that. Lol.
What's the current mpg on that car? How much did she trade in for and how much you guys are gonna sell it for?
Great questions. She averaged about 27 mpg. Unfortunately, we already sold it but I don't know how much b/c we sold it at the auction... Thanks for stopping by!
Don't know about this vehicle of course but my 2008 is getting 25.5 mpg for the past 2000 miles or so.
Depends on how you drive it, if I Cruze on fwy I can get 26mpg but when I drive fast 💨 average is closer to 17-18mpg 2006 400h
