My late father worked the Northfield Mt Herman project and helped build and weld that entire plant MANY yrs ago now. Always loved hearing his horror stories of things that happened to some people during the immense build. Also really enjoyed taking the tour years later while in the Boy Scouts Of America and actually seeing what my father built by hand.

Just for informational purposes, the part they omitted is that the turbine doubles as a pump. So after generating power for the higher electrical demand during the day, they use electricity to run backwards at night to pump the water back up the mountain. Given their size, I'm sure it requires a lot of power to do that. This form of hydro serves its purpose, although it's not as "green" as say a hydro plant on a dam.

Where does the water come from? It’s sucked from the Connecticut River along with every living thing that is in the water.

So simple you wouldn't think we'd have to pay so much

Really makes you wonder where ALL that electricity is going..

@Cl1nton Body count Nikola Tesla harnessed static electricity from the sky and was prepared to share it with the world. JP Morgan who was funding his project, found out and shut him down.

Once again, the green energy clowns fail to mention that this asset runs at a net loss , energy wise. The power needed to pump the water back up the hill is quite large. When this plant was designed , there was an abundance of nuclear power on the grid at night , which was what was used to power the pumping portion of the equation. That is no longer the case. Now it’s fossil fuel that powers the pumps. The local grid operator needs this plant to meet peak demands and it is a big piece of the puzzle. I work for said grid operator so I have a pretty good handle on how this plant fits in. To proclaim this plant as some sort of magical green energy wonder is disingenuous and absurd.

Tell the whole story. So, how much power is required to fill the reservoir? Tell the whole story.

The sheep will miss the real meaning of the term 'water-battery' here and bleat with planet-greening joy over the use of clean hydroelectric power.
