You are such a great teacher and have so many good ideas. I work at a child care center and go to college part-time trying to get my bachelor's degree in teaching. You have given me so many ideas of what to do in my future classroom
Parent communication is HUGE for a strong teacher and parent relationship! 😀 I am so glad to see you are doing well, get well soon, and I look forward to being further inspired by you! 😀 On a side note, I have now graduated with my Master's degree in Elementary Education and my goal is to start teaching in August 2018! 😀
Chelsye Mansfield Thank you so much for your congratulations! 😀 If we remain positive, we will be great teachers for our students! Take care and many blessings to you on your journey to becoming a teacher! 😀
thank you! I have heard a lot of teachers having a bad first year of teaching, but it gives me hope that I hear that you had a good first year. I am starting my first year of teaching kindergarten and will be using many things you use hoping it will go well.
Is use class dojo. Not for behavior but for communication. I love it!! I tell them to check it as much as they do Facebook haha I add a picture of notes that were sent home bc we know they don't always make it there I add pictures of homework I add videos of kids in action during writing math and science I add pictures of students to brag such as when they earned a reward or if we have a spirit week I add pics of students in their attire.
+Primary Procedures this makes me happy!! I️ love to hear when other teachers communicate with parents and provide lots of positive feedback!! Thank you for watching!! ((Hugs))
I defiantly agree about making phone calls especially because as sad as it is, kids may get abused in some way when they get into trouble or don't do well in school. I never was personally but I had/have friends who were.
I make a tea when I get a sore throat. Green tea, lemon, honey, ginger and a splash of hot sauce. I swear by it. Throat gets better every time. Us teachers need to take care of our throats. Hugs!!!
I started using remind this year and so far I like how easy it is to add parents, make groups, and send messages but I do not like how difficult it is to send pictures. It takes forever since my classroom is a dead zone!
+kindkindergarten remind is super easy. I️m sorry about you being in that dead zone, making it hard to send pictures. Have a fab week! Thank you for stopping by. ((Hugs))
Im also thinking about negative parent who are not negative to you but to their child. For example nitpicking the 1/100 that didn't get when they got a 99% or not liking the artwork that the kid made for them. Those are hard to deal with too. Focus on the student relationship in those cases and constantly remind parents how awesome their child is.
I use ClassDojo and now I’m using a student digital portfolio known as SeeSaw to incorporate parent communication . Thank you again for a wonderful video , Ms. May ! Hugs and Blessings!
Let me know how you’re enjoying SeeSaw. I’m wanting to use that this year. I️ just can’t stay consistent with Dojo. Thank you for watching sunshine! ((Hugs)) and Blessings
One FAB Teacher @ Ms. May I Love SeeSaw because my parents comment on their child’s work . My kids are so excited about showcasing their work and can’t wait for their peers and their parents to comment or like something . I have a mtg next week on other ways to use SeeSaw...I’ll keep you posted.
I used Remind a few years ago. I am going to present Remind to my team for consideration as our parent communication tool. Great tips in this video. Thanks and get well!
Love these tips! You have encouraged me to post more on my class dojo! The parents do love seeing their kiddos in action at school! Hope you get to feeling better!!
Great tips! I absolutely LOVE remind! I flooded my parents with pictures every day of that first week so they could see what was going on with their kiddos. They LOVED it! Thank you for sharing your awesomeness with us! ❤️ and hugs, dear friend!
Hey Miss May, I am a future educator and I would love to know how you create all those wonderful Melon Heads? I have so many ideas, of what I want to use them for.
I use Remind too but will have to switch to something else. They will no longer allow messages up to 300 characters. Everything will be limited to 140 characters. This isn’t sufficient for much of what I need to send, especially my weekly newsletters. The now are going to make it a paid service if you want to go over the 140 characters. :-( “To make sure Remind can continue supporting as many school communities as possible, 300 characters will no longer be available. We began deprecating this feature over the summer and sent out a notice of the change and I'm so so sorry if that email didn't make it to you inbox! Remind is here to stay, but we can only offer higher character limits as part of our paid plan.”
Usually, I don't need more than 140 characters. When I need more than that I just send an email. I just usually text a quick Remind of something and/or photos. I don't think teachers should have to pay for the upgraded feature. This makes me sad. Have a FAB week! ((HUGS))
One FAB Teacher same here usually but sometimes my messages do go over 140 characters and my weekly newsletter is always more than 140. I found something just now that might be a possibility, an app called “class messenger”. You are right teachers should have to pay for it!
Miss May how do you kill with kindness but still demand respect to those who come in your classroom and try to tell you what you should be doing or try to tell you what you are doing wrong or what you could do better. If you need to do a video instead of a message reply, please explain how you would hand a negative co-worker who is a bully, who wants to overpower and take control, who throws you under the bus. Thank you Miss May.
i hope you're feeling better Ms. May! your pencil mug is adorable!! thank you so much for doing this video i will definitely be referring back to it as a teacher next school year! Thank you for all you do!
I love your focus on constant positive communication!
You are exceptional!
