    Thank you so much for taking time out of your summer to make this video! I took notes while watching and think this will be a game changer for me! I'm also interested in how you manage absent/make up work and unfinished work. Thanks again for all your love, positivity, and helping others! Love you!

    Miss May, I am an intern at architecture and design firm that does K through 12 schools exclusively. I would love for you to make a video about pet peeves about school design if you can think of any, such as not having enough room in certain places, the location of classrooms and workrooms, etc. If that makes any sense I feel like it would be an interesting video, at least for me, haha! It might give some of us a better idea of things that work and things that don't work. The firm that I work for has a lot of schools that use flexible lounge seating for small groups outside of the classrooms and I just want to hear about your experience with student learning depending on what types of furniture is used. Do students work better in traditional settings? How much does the environment really affect student learning and engagement? What do you wish to see in the future of school design? It is a big business but most everyone in the industry really have the kids' best interests in mind.

    I have gone through desk and no desk phases over the years. I finally use an IKEA storage cube to at least have a command center to work from! 😉. I do believe we all should revisit our organization during the summer. Now you’ve got me thinking.... Thanks for sharing!

    Tackling Paperwork is a huge challenge for teachers! So True Miss May. It's can be overwhelming. . I like your binder system. Putting it in alphabetical order is a great idea. Thanks for all your helpful tips. 👍 I would like to see more of what is in your small group binders. A video on that would be great. Every piece of paper should have a home. I'm going to start your system.

    Great ideas as usual!
    I’ve always just had one MASSIVE binder for my whole class, but what a great idea to have individual student binders to house all of the paperwork that comes with each child.
    I LOVE binders! As a matter of fact, as I was going through all of my things preparing for my big move up two floors I came across a whole slew of beautiful shiny new ones!!! 😍 I shouldn’t have to buy a binder again! LOL! Binders are such a great way to keep yourself together and you can make them look so cute too, so it’s a win-win!!

    I use binders for almost everything also. I use a color code system though. Red =math, blue = reading, green= science, etc.. This helps me quickly find what I need at a glance. Could you do a video on how you organize your documentation related to your evaluation as a teacher? For example..we have to maintain logs of communication, professional developments( workshops), participation in school events, grade level meetings, etc..

    Love your binder organisation! My team teachers and I have been moved into one small classroom due to construction on the school so we had to be creative with our teacher desks. We still have them but it’s a lot more compact using an L shape desk for 3 teachers. I can see the benefits of just chucking it out and using the space for something else.

    Thanks for this video Miss May! You put my mind at ease. On the last day I traded out my smaller u shaped table for a bigger horshoe shaped one. Then I stuck my teachers desk in the hallway with a note to please return it to the storeroom. My desk was always cluttered and when I cleaned it out it was full of nothing more than stickers and junk! And like you I never really sit down anyway unless I'm meeting with small groups. I'm so excited about trying to get more organized for my 2nd year. Can't stand a messy workspace. Looking forward to seeing what you keep in your binders!💜

    This was right on time after my annual eval. The note is always "classroom is clean but appears cluttered in places". those places are the homes for my Perpetual stacks of papers. and it's crazy because I teach Pre-K but there are so many papers and assessments and more papers that I put them in a place thinking I'm going to get to them later but it turned into much later. I feel you on that bag going home or a "box of good intentions" lol. I'm just ready for a fresh start that department. Thanks again.

    Do you use page protectors? I have all my units in binders and page protectors because I don't like the holes in my papers that I send home. However, that gets expensive and I heard many times in your video that you just hole punch and stick it in. That sounds really freeing actually. Do the holes bother you in your copies? I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE all your videos! Thanks for keeping it real and being soooo positive!

    • @OneFABTeacher
      @OneFABTeacher  6 років тому +2

      No page protectors for me. I have everything saved digitally that I need or may need year after year. So I don’t have a filing cabinet with folders and papers to refer back to. I just find what I need to copy or use on my drive. ((Hugs))

      Awesome! Do you have a way to store examples of art projects and centers you've made? Like a box or container? Or do you keep those in binders? Sorry for all the questions but I just love how you do things.

    Hi! I hear so many teachers talk negatively about this career choice, lack of money, bad conditions, etc. I feel a call to eventually become a teacher, but feel discouraged by the negativity. Can you discuss this topic at all? Is there truth to it? Is it worth it? Is it ok to become a teacher later in life? Currently, I’m a nurse and homeschool mom. Nurses generally make good money and have flexibility. I’d hate to give that up but teaching calls my heart.
    P.s. thank you for your positivity! 🤍

    I have been teacher desk free for 4 years and I love it! However, my principal sent us a message recently that said everyone should have a teacher desk in their room to keep the kidney table clean... I, of course, will advocate for me not to have my teacher desk. Especially since I can better organize my kids finished paperwork now after watching your video. In this video, you mentioned portfolios and I was wondering if you can share more about your portfolios. In my district, we have to keep student portfolios of their work and this is where my PILES of paper accumulated (ugh!). I like your idea about a binder for each child, however, I will 1 of 2 of the math/sci people for my grade level... that would be a lot of binders (30+). I know eventually the finished work bin would get full with kid work if you are using them as a portfolio, so where do you put finished graded work? Or how do you organize it? Thanks.:)

    Do you file and keep the binder contents? Or is it send home stuff? I have a personal file for each student and another file for our DLCT that gets passed to the next teacher, if I did a binder for each student maybe id make it a portfolio for parent conferences but make it a send home thing at the end of the year. ?
