- DO NOT STRIKE THE PLUNGER'S OUTER BORE WITH EXCESSIVE FORCE.
KC Turbos is here to help you fix your sticking turbo vanes in your 6.7 Powerstroke.
Do not use a hammer to contact the outer bore of the VGT plunger! Hard focused strikes to this bore can make the Bore out of round and your plunger will be frozen!
Use gentle taps or light pressure from an air hammer with a wide, flat face as seen in this video to spread out the force! If you use a hammer, use gentle taps.
DO NOT STRIKE THE PLUNGER'S OUTER BORE WITH EXCESSIVE FORCE.
Very Good Video, Nice to see the open view of the vanes. First time looking into a 6.7 Turbo for me.
I’m pumped that I stumbled on this video. My 6.7 has acted like the vanes were stuck open. Turned off and went back to normal. Now I’ve got something to go off of. Thanks!
You ever figure it out? Mines doing the same.
@@fizzi5836 turbo ended up being junk, ultimately took out the entire engine. Hard lesson learned I guess.
@anguscreek man that is rough, how could that have been avoided? My turbo has been acting like that vanes get stuck closed after about 5 minutes of driving and when I shut it off and turn olit back on it is back to normal. Not codes or anything to go off of though
@@jeffmeszaros5861 Some knowledge about the issue would have probably saved me a bunch of money. The bearing went in mine and was causing boost pressure issues, which the computer must have been trying to fix by commanding it to hold open. But mine wasn’t a gradual issue either, in the span of 15 miles the turbo let go and dumped enough oil out the back to lock the engine up. Lesson learned. Good luck with yours, powerful engines when they’re maintained.
@@anguscreekHow many miles were on it when the turbo died?
Thanks for the video. My truck was making a deep throaty sound while towing and boost was around 35 psi. I shut the key off and the gauge started indicating normal. The oil temperature and power was normal, but the fuel economy looked a bit low (Maybe 2 or 3 mpg lower). I'll try this the next time instead of purchasing a MAP sensor.
the custom intake on that truck is bad ass!! love that shit
Thanks for the visual. You're the man
No problem 👍
Good info. Was thinking my veins were stuck but the problem only occurred after an intercooler pipe came off. Guessing its a sensor now
That bang sound at 2:33 almost gave me a heart attack I was playing the video in my truck not watching the video just listening while driving and I thought I hit something 😂
Thank you so much for this video, I have a 6.7 with a stuck VGT causing overboost. Will definitely try this out
MANNNN mine just started doing this lol I love yalls vids
Will you all do a video on hard shifts while cold? Mine does it intermittently and wondering the culprit
@@deerturk88 valve body helped mine
Excellent video man. Very well done. My problem is the PCM triggering since the turbo starting working on a key cycle.
Mine will occasionally stick after a wide open throttle pull on the freeway or something. If I shut the truck off and restart it the vgt works again. Is this the pcm you're talking about?
@@jakepeterson3379 Did you ever figure this out? Mine does a similar thing but stops working after a vane sweep while I’m in the drive through or at a red light.
@d.williams6891 I changed tunes and it went away. Everything mechanical checked out so It had to be some glitch in the tune.
@@jakepeterson3379 Ahh okay, thank you. I’m in the same boat. If I use one tune, my truck is slow AF but the turbo consistently works, and if I use another tune everything works great until it does a vane sweep at idle. Then it won’t work at all until I pull over and turn the truck off and back on. Are you using one of the main named tuning company’s files?
Not exactly the same, but my 6.7 cummins is actin a Foo right now. Its doing same thing, exhaust brake quits working, and it has a much deeper grumble. Or it starts working again, and has the jet engine whistle. Then the other day something new, went to leave a stop sign and no power whatsoever and smoking black like crazy. Pulled over and tried revving it up a few times, then it cleared and started working again. Thanks for the video!
I put a 2015 turbo on my 13 and only in winter weather under 30 degrees outside my veinswill stop working until i shut off and restart the vehicle. Also, once I restart the truck, the veins work fine until i stop moving. If i come to a stop sign then move again, they will be shut off.. But if i run that stop sign they will keep working. That is my rumble tune, which runs perfectly in summer, but every winter the veins quit working till resart. I have a hiss tune that i have to use in the winter so the vgt works consistently.
Did you ever figure out a fix for this issue?
Excellent information and presentation. Thank you.
That’s an excellent video. Great work!
I have the problem caused by the PCM but the vanes only stick in the shut position if I start it remotely. If I start it with the key it works fine every time. If I start it with the factory installed remote start it will almost always stick shut. Any idea why this would cause a difference?
Currently trying to figure out how to do this with all the stock intake piping. On my 16 I literally can not see the turbo. Any tips??
Hey, did you ever figure out how to get to it without having to take the top of the engine off?
Great video Charlie!
Love the love tap
Holy piping kit 👀
What if your veins cycle and the turbo whistles randomly in or out of gear?
Lots of info here!
Very informative.
Glad it was helpful!
Ok I’m gonna be as respectful as I can be . I’ve just spent 3k dollars plus on your turbo and now I’ve got to smack it with a hammer I should have stuck to the factory set up
This fix is meant for all 6.7 turbos, especially the factory set up.
@@KCTURBOS I still wasn’t comfortable with the hitting it with the hammer, but I did had to take upper intake loose in order to get the right spot . I will give you credit your turbos are down right nasty when they are working I would recommend your turbo 100 % !
I have your stang 2 on my 19 6.7. Actually you personally did a pressure test for me last year. Now the turbo only rumbles no hiss at all regardless of tune. Guy at Proven said fuel issues. I have air hammered, plugged and unplugged. Still nothing.
AWESOME VIDEO.
Would this be similar on the Cummins 6.7 turbo as well? Or is that a completely different vain system?
Since the the Cummins is a VNT different design, im not sure if it would work the same.
@KC TURBOS ok, thanks for the reply
I have a 2016 F450 6.7 can a spray cleaner be use?
My 2006 Duramax keeps giving P2563 which is vane control position sensor. The sensor was replaced and still same thing. I know the veins are opening and closing because of the different sounds my truck makes on idle. Check engine light is still on and will not go away. Will tapping the turbo make it go away?
Ok 👌🏻 my 12 6.7 is randomly even not running showing full boost an odk if connected but also the parking sensor waring came on too… so it seems wen that happens the boost gauge shows full also… i cleaned the map sensor an it didnt help. Obviously it could still be my map sensor is faulty an i ordered a new one.. but if its not that then what else could it be??? I know u said leaks but would that still make it do that even when not running???
I heard a light pop then a hiss noise. (Not a loud pop like the intercooler hose does) Almost like disconnecting a hose from an air compressor. Then lost all boost on the turbo. Any ideas what happened
I have a P132B code on my 6.7. At full throttle I'll maybe make 9 to 10 pounds of boost. I have a wireless OBD2 reader and I can clear the code and boost comes back without cycling the key. This only happens maybe once every 600 to 800 miles. I've changed my MAP sensor (had a lot of build up), I've checked for boost leak. Any other direction you can suggest?
Hi, i have a Kia CRDI Turbo diesel. My car doesn't have any code. But i can hear a whistle when accelerating. But at 22psi boost, then sudden power loss and engine running smooth again. Every time i press hard on the gas, boost goes to 22psi and car loss power like jerking. Ive check, no leaks exhaust manifold. Intake manifold cleaned. Egr cleaned. Oil level starting to decrease after a few thousand kilometers. Is it a sign of a bad turbo. But if i accelerated slowly, i manage to get the top speed of 200km/h. But slow and steady acceleration. If theres a sudden acceleration, it looses power. Btw, ive change the diesel filter, dpf cleaned. Engine flushing done. Im out of ideas. I scan using both hyundai center scanner and VeePeak scanner. No error code.
Thanks for the info, this is useful info.
I have a 6.0 keeps blowing boot off at turbo. Had acceleration hight boost. Replaced almost every sensor. Not sure
I've experienced diminished exhaust braking. it still works but it isnt closing up as much as it used to. 6.7 psd. Any ideas?
Would it sound like a supercharger with 0 boost if your veins are stuck ???
I know this is an old video but I have a 03 6.0 and I do not hear the whistle I hear grinding noise. Would a kc rebuild kit with balanced 10 blade assembly fix that or would it be better to purchase a new stock turbo from yall.
My 2011 got stuck at 40 & restarted working fine after I turned it off… what steps should I begin with to get it fixed?
U ever figure it out bro??? I have heard map sensor so i cleaned mine still happening so i oredered a new one an hope thatys the fix… hope u got ur problem situated
@@dopedickinsonbb8359 did the new sensor work?
Would this process still work for my stock turbo on my 6.7 powerstroke
Absolutely!
Can a bad egr valve cause computer to command vanes open or closed? My 6.7 goes into reduced power mode and if I turn off/on it goes back to normal. Typically will over boost before going into reduced power mode
I believe so! But dont quote me on that! Give our customer service team a call, they can give you a much better insight/answer to your question. 480-688-7160
@@KCTURBOSthank you I will contact them! Keying on and off isn’t working for me anymore. Think my turbo is vanes are sticking for sure. Will be ordering a turbo from you guys!
what do you think about them sticking at 59% im having issue with my 2018 f250
Thats a fairly regular location for the vanes to stick. Did you try the instructions from the video? Did it fix it for you?
I have the problem with loosing boost/cycling the key to regain boost. could it be the vgt actuator?
Did you figure your turbo problem out?
Can you do this same thing for a 13 6.7 I’m having a lot of boost lag to where it takes about 2 seconds to build boost but the thing is, is that it doesn’t do this all the time
Did you ever figure out your turbo problem?
I see a lot of issues with incorrect tuning by companies on the 6.7s
You will need very specific tuning typically by a well known company that has official "KC modified vgt files" in the name.....
If you are reading this and do not have those, you will experience a lazy / smokey truck.... 90% of the time this is tuning issues.
My turbo works in 1&2 gear…. Dumps coal in 3&4 gear and build and runs great in 5&6 gear…
I can’t find anything about this issue anywhere!
Sounds like you have tuning issues potentially. What tunes are you running?
