Hello everyone! Just wanted to do a quick comparison on my Tods Gommino shoes, showing the iconic Gommino Suede Drivers versus the new and more modern Marlin Boat Shoes which are made of leather and rubber soles. Out of my two year experience with Tods I have come down to the conclusion because of my lifestyle the shoes that have a more firm sole to them that aren't the driver grips will last much longer. The downside to the all suede drivers is that the grips on them begin to wear down after a while which is no good!

My husband and I absolutely love Tod shoes! They are very comfy and practical!
Very helpful.. Have been contemplating on buying new drivers. Ferragamo and Prada are on my wish list. Drivers are easy to dress up or down with the apparel. Of fort is the key with drivers and loafers.
kkoun Drivers are a great shoe and I would still probably buy more Tods suede drivers.. I would just be more selective on when and how I wear them.. Tods makes my favorite driver out of all of the luxury designers!
I was always wondering about getting Tod's but in Socal, I tend to walk around a lot. This video just confirmed that I won't be making a suede driver purchase. Thank you Alex.
x01z02x Tods are cool for SoCal but I think because of where we live.. you have to be selective on when to wear the shoes.. The thing with SoCal is you can go from... concrete roads.. to indoor tile floors.. to on the pier all within a day. I never wear my Tods shoes in grass or dirt but I still feel like concrete roads and stuff take a hard beating on the shoes. I would still recommend the brand for shoes but I would say try out their leather marlin boat shoes or something a little more durable!

That's a really good review! I had 2 pairs and was quit upset when I saw how fast they wear and tear. But I recently got a pair of Car Shoe, for the same price as Tods would have come in, and they feel much more solid! The sole is more structured and the leather lining is thicker too! I'll see if they are keeping up better or not, time will show.
I would recommend purchasing the tods city gommino loafer, they are the same style as the regular gommino loafers but have a rubber sole
The Gomminos are also available in nubuck, essentially the other side of suede leather and in my experience they're a bit sturdier and easier to clean than suede. I go for dark brown and no tassles, though, it doesn't one behoove a straight man in his 40s to wear red shoes.
The soles are reparable in a way that it will be converted to "city" lookalike.

Loved your review. Recently purchased a pair of Tods similiar to your Red ones. Mine are dark navy macassin drivers.Like yourself I think mine are very classy but they definately not durable.
Nevertheless love them. So hard to find nice loafers nowadays
Do you own any of the boots Tod's makes Alex? Stumbled on your videos as I am also an avid shoe collector. I recently bought Tod's suede chelsea boots and chukka boots which I'm hoping will hold up well since the soles seem to be sturdier rubber than the drivers. I also own a pair of the drivers and totally agree that they don't age that gracefully. Nonetheless, Tod's is definitely a fantastic luxury brand with great products.

My green drivers are leather and i have experienced the same issue. It's disappointing that the Tods drivers wear poorly compared to Ferragamo or Gucci.

Love my Tod's! Have suede driving shoes in all kind of different colors, and like all my 200+ shoes I take good care like you. Have you considered getting in touch with Tod's for the repair? Maybe they are not aware of the problem with the rubber? I did that with Chloe and a handbag 3 years after I bought it, and they took it back and substituted what I was dissapointed with.
Dwightinho56 I have contacted Tods but they always refer me to a third-party person for repair which I never feel totally comfortable with. I should contact them again about the rubber rubbing off!
MonsiieurAlex I would not feel good with a 3rd party on such a shoe either. Try to make Tod's aware that a repair/replacement would be in their own interest. Bad reputation for the brand name. Be persistent! (I know it can be difficult, but worth a try).
does the tods get holes in the bottom? thanks you very much
What would you recommend for sizing specifically with Tod shoes? Are they true to size or do they come up small or large? Should you get the same size you would for an oxford dress shoe? As there are no laces you cannot tighten the fit
The size for tods is one size down the us size. Still it’s better to go and check with the sales rep in physical store as they can provide more info.
