Спасибо за ваши слова доброты про Этторе.. проживший 44 года на этой земле..он поёт своим теплым голосом от Бога во всем вашем существе,поёт и ласкает сердце
Beautiful sound, excellent musicality, clarity of voice, and superior phrasing from Cerquetti, whose delivery of the text is impeccable. That is perhaps her greatest gift in comparison to her rivals. Maybe she doesn't inhabit a character as fully as Callas, but who does? An excellent Morro-an aria of great beauty and emotional intensity. The cello obbligato is so searing, it's no wonder Ankaerstrom practically caves in his from murderous intentions. Of course, if he did, there'd be no opera!
Anita non e' una voce sconosciuta. Rara si' come calibro intenzioni pienezza. Anita resta fra i venti soprani da salvare in tutta la storia dell'opera lirica.
Never heard her live. I have some Cerquetti recordings. I'd hardly call her obscure. She reminds me of Rita Orlandi-Malespina whom I have heard live. That kind of voice is sadly out of fashion today. Another somewhat similar soprano was Maria Slatinaru, who remains the best Tosca I heard live.
Definitely underrepresented on commercial recordings, but a great talent who, I also think, may have taken on heavy roles too early in her vocal development, but this is always the singer's caveat. I admire her greatly in many of the privately recorded performances I have heard.
Voice strain - I hadn't come upon that as an explanation. Certainly sounds more credible than the "family first" thing. I have her "Grandi Voci" and "Portrait of the Aritst" compilations as well as Don Carlo and Mose live performances. Where did you get this recording? Anyway thanks. The remarkable brevity of her career is only overshadowed by her brilliance when she had one! What a voice. Thanks.
To really understand how special she was, listen to this then listen to her recording of Spontini's "O rei d'egli cieli" from an entirely different period of operatic composition. The voice is modified in performance to fit the composer's requirements rather than making the composer fit the voice. This is also what Callas could do as could Nilsson in most of her Italian roles. Very few other sopranos can do this. For example, although Caballe sings everything from Baroque to 20th Century music, she often ignores stylistic demands while showing off her vocal control.
Ms Cerquetti is not an unknown name to me but I never realy followed her career therefor I had no idea that she retired at such a young age ~an age in which most Operasingers just ""start" theirs.I only have heard her in two of her live recordings (La Gioconda and Ernani Fi 1958 & 1957) and never was speciali impressed by her voice ,but after listening to this aria and some others I looked up in Y.T., I have to admit ,that she "had" what it took to become one of the Great one´s.
II Why she did not .....only she could answer that . Art is a very demanding and jealous creature and if you are not willing to serve it unconditional and make huge sacrifices for it, sooner or later you pay the price.( maybe that was her case) Thanks again Mike, through your wonderful projejets we always learn something new. ( sorry for this long speech)
She is great but she never sang Turandot! I recommend "Anita Cerquetti - Umiltà e fierezza" by Elio Trovato for further reading. With complete list of performances, discography and roles.

@@williamadolphe7921no, su due, sulla seconda voce, ci sarebbe la fila.
touching voice and fate
A true Verdi soprano. It is a shame that your rarely this type of voice anymore.... Quite depressing.
