Something to mention: In pathologic the town is sorrounded by herbs called "twyre" o (or was it twyrine?) Which weaknes humans, which mean you have to sleep and eat more often (which ties into the gameplay). During the events of the game its mentioned that twyre is in full bloom like never before. Shmowders are explained in the first game in that they are such a potent mixture that literally kills the disease and leaves the host almost dead Children are more resistant to the plague the younger they are Also its mentioned the disease might come from the earth
Talked to the devs about all of the points. According to word of god, the twyre has nothing to do with the disease. I can't use Schmowders as a real cure since I don't know a single ingredient, the children are more resistant because "the magic" of the town needs the children for a new generation, and while it is true that the disease comes from the earth, that is spoiler territory. Also I tried to find out if spilled blood in combination with earth produces bacteria, but nope. In fact, most plantlife see dried blood as an extra meal which is full of nutrients. It even has a real life application and it is called "blood meal"
This was INCREDIBLY informative, I can clearly see how much research went into this! Awesome! You were also very funny! Love your videos! Now I feel like playing some pathologic!
There are big holes in the theory, 1.the infection does spreads by human contact (or atleast being close to one) so it cant be ergot even if the sympthoms are right. 2. Due to the socitial rules, no-one can even dent the ground, so they cant exacly farm and you can see since there is no farmland, while you can buy bread, I'm 99% sure the wheat is either wild wheat or imported (unless stone age level of farming/gathering can make up to produce the amount of flour you imply to infect whole town)
I thought about that myself, thanks for pointing it out. And you are right, the Plague is not Ergot poisoning. But the point of the video was not to figure out what the Plague in the game is, but to figure out if the plague could exist in real life, and if not, which disease comes close to it. (3:40) Now about your points: I thought about them as well and actually like how you think, but in most cases I can give a rebuttal^^ Concerning the digging: I also talked with the devs about this and word of god is: You can't dig DEEP into the ground. A.k.a you are not allowed to bury the dead or dig wells. The devs also confirmed that the plague is caused by a bacterium, while Ergot is simply a poison/fungal infection, which would be a point for you, but as I said, i tried to find a real life counterpart, not the other way around. Concerning the lack of Farmland: of course there is no farmland to be seen for the exact same reason you see no toilets. What exactly would you do with these assets in a videogame that is not about these things? The focus was on the steppe culture and the conflicts and the player experience. That's also why the devs did not have any particular plague in mind when they designed the Sand Pest, they just rolled with it. Their game was never designed to truly give hints about a real life plague, because their plague is simply "magic". Concerning the rye: Over 10.000 People are assumed to live in this town, according to the final death toll on day 11. Sure import/export is definitely a thing, but this town absolutely HAS to to produce their own stuff to sustain themselfes as well since importing and exporting goods into and from the middle of nowhere is a logistical nightmare and definitely not profitable. Except for a few individuals and unless it is the only place in the world that produces an article of luxury, which in this case would be the meat.
Ace you are really man on the right place. I started watching your videos circa half year ago and i must say I'm enjoying all your videos no matter the theme is. Darkwood,Hello Neighbor,Hunt of course:) You always make your videos somehow interesting and fun and it is obvious in any case you have a sense for this. I really gotta tip my cap to you and I'm looking forward to your next videos;) Good luck:)
Great video! I love the lens you placed upon this game! I'm not the first to point out that this video is very Bachelor-like, but specifically I am curious if you've played or seen anything of Pathologic 1, where in the Bachelor route you come to a more scientific conclusion about the plague, that explains the pest incubated in the ground due to animal viscera. I wonder if Pathologic 2 will also see him hunting for the source of the plague and follow many of these same steps.
great research aside, can we all appreciate the pixel ducks please? 10/10. Also the game sounds really interesting, do you have that available on twitch? (currently catching up on your cyberpunk to the part where I'm at myself)
The Bachelor be like:
The plague made by a supernatural entity/the earth it self?
Nah its S C I E N C E T I M E
