I disconnected my brain for a half hour and when I reconnected it all my problems had magically gone away. Thanks Scotty! 🙂
"Have you tried turning off and then back on again?"
In that case you owe me money. 😂
That's awesome. I'm glad everything worked out.
Man wasn't it hard to breathe 😂

😅😅
I found to put some Vaseline on the gas cap will seat it better and doesn't require a new cap. Also O-ring lubricant works.
Scotty, I would have cleaned the Positive terminal before hooking up New Battery...
He forgot 😁
I work on my car and do chores while listening to scotty and its so entertaining. Keeps me laughing.
On ANY vehicle you buy new or used, check those battery connections. If it's used clean them, do what you need to keep power to the car but clean the terminals and the connectors, replace them and then either BUY spray on protectant or get some vaseline, put it in a metal cup and heat it on the stove, with a torch, whatever till it's liquid and pour it over the connections. Especially on motorcycles where usually it's burried under the seat or in a closed battery box and you might not see the corrosion starting.
It won't corrode at all then.
My battery terminals never corroded... 😂😂😂 even after 22 years. 😅
I've actually found that the penetration oil FREEALL will clean the rings and stop the oil burning by cleaning the control ring....I've done it on multiple 2.4 honda and 2.4 toyota engines sometimes it doesn't stop the burning but does ALWAYS SLOW THE BURNING I've used this many times for cleaning the intake valves of the audi/vw engines works like magic
Funny thing about Castrol oil.. It's Penzoil with an added additive. How do I know this? Castrol is right next door to Penzoil's refinery plant on the Ohio river.
Personally I prefer Valvoline or Pennzoil. My cousin works as a subcontractor for Pennzoil.
I like Mobil
@@astafford8865 Mobil 1?
Pennzoil is owned by Shell, Castrol is owned by BP.
@@seanwestervelt7503 Yup. My main point was that Castrol only bought processed oil from Pennzoil and added their "patented additive" to it, until 2002 when British Petroleum purchased Castrol. To which, I don't use Castrol.
Shell plc (Royal Dutch Petroleum) acquired Pennzoil-Quaker State company, also in 2002, to market its products as two separate motor oil brands (same process), Pennzoil and Quaker State (Pennsylvania is the "Quaker State" founded by the religious sect, "The Quakers"). Yet, both products are refined into motor oil and are the same.
Back in the late 80s and through the 90s Shell was known as dirty gas that created sludge in carburetors in cars.
Many tests were done when lead was taken out of gasoline on major petroleum brands. Now we've got the ethenol problem to deal with on the fuel system and newer fuel deliveries in vehicles.
Whereas, British Petroleum bought Bermah-Castrol because of their additive. Castrol never has and never sid use their own oil, they just added their patented additive, whatever that is, to oil they purchased from Pennzoil. They both, Pennzoil/Shell & Castrol/BP are literally divided by a fenced property right next door to each other.
I like Super Tech 🤩
If you have an evap code you can't get rid of and it's inspection time, fill the tank and then reset the codes. Then drive it around for a day or two. Keep the tank near full, it has to stay over 85% full. The other monitors will complete and evap will be the only one to show as not ready, and the light will be off. Then get it inspected. almost all inspections allow one monitor to be not ready.
Happy retirement! 🎉You paid your dues.
even back then pulling the battery can be a real pain since you might have to put in code for the radio and reprogram all the settings on everything.
i would clean the terminal and battery and put some sealer on it to prevent corrosion.
I just replaced the alternator in my ‘93 Toyota a few days ago and it took me a few minutes to read the owner’s manual so could figure out (again) how to reset the anti-theft code for the radio! I doubt it will ever get stolen at that point! At least, all other presets radio remained.
honda gives you a little card with number and if it gets lost you have to jump through hoops and pay dealer to fix it it was a 2000 thing to stop radio theft @@PhilRacicot
God Bless 😊
You should never grab a battery by the terminals. I was tightening a battery cable to the terminal (not overtightening) and the terminal came off. It caused an internal spark and boom. I was okay and learned. The battery didn't make it.
from battery manufacturer(s): "Whether they are located on the top or side of a battery, battery terminals should be treated very carefully and never be used to lift, move, carry or secure a battery."
Scotty for life 👍 your expertise is what makes you evolve long live scotty🙏
I currently live in Georgia. In the 8 years I've lived here they've never done emissions testing. No inspection sticker either.
What COMPUTER ARE you using and how much and how do you connect it to the ca r ? Thanks good information sir.
I'm wondering if that old Interstate battery is manufactured by Exide? I often had problems with various brands of batteries made by Exide that leak around terminals and eat up connectors.
I know they make some for Interstate. I have one in one green Interstate battery of my cars and so far it hasn't leaked.
I bought a brand new battery for my 2011 honda crv lx from the dealership, brought it home, installed it, and once I pulled the cover off to inspect for the distilled water, it was only 1/3 left. I called the dealership and let them know to check all of the batteries before they sell them to the customers.
Lesson, never simply install the battery, if it is not totally sealed and it has distilled water, always inspect it and top it off.
My new battery would have probably died in less than a week had I not topped of the distilled water.
Does this only happen to the brand new batteries? Far from it, many times consumers will hurry to replace the battery when the car will not start and take them back failing to check for distilled water. Even auto shops do not check them when they take or test the batteries. They need to be periodically checked and topped of with the distilled water. Especially in the warmer area they evaporate faster.
YKM
dump 1/3 and top up ..lean concentration for longevity
Whatta ya mean? You mean suck 1 third of the water out, then fill?...
@@adamxenon829or dump all to container .. fill back aroun half the cell high .. charge 5 to 10 hours.. then fill with destiled water.. you can save the unused h2so4 for later use.
I use Mobil 1 Full Synthetic High Mileage in my wife's and son's car, they burn a little oil but less than a quart every 6 months when I do the change.

Don't retire. We all learn so much from your videos
Why in the world didn't you "clean" that Battery Terminal/Connect....?
I had a 1967 Impala with a straight 6 it used so much oil I used recycled oil and checked the gas once in a while had a broken motor mount so I chained it down
I remember the older cars would run forever if we changed the oil regularly.
1:06 neighbors wondering what that guy from Texas is doing!!
It uses a lot of oil for 168,00 miles.I hope he got a good deal. My Dodge has that many miles and has no discernable oil usage at all.
Hondas of this period are known for battery problems. Doesn't suprise me with rhis car. They even had battery sensir recall. Nice vehicle though.
My new voswagenfactory battery died in less than 4.5 years...
I have a question can someone help me why is my indicator comming on when brake pedal is pressed(right indicator)
During the edit, when the dull stuff got cut out, I’m guessing the battery terminal scrubbing got scrubbed. Before the edit that red vanity cap was on the connector, and the connector looked very lackluster. After the edit the red cap was off and the connector looked nice and shiny. I’m guessing a mention of cleaning the battery connector got chopped out in the edit, also. Or it was never in the script in the first place, one or the other.
I love those older Acuras, super fun to drive.
You should have cleaned the connectors Scotty!
Can you provide a realistic top 10 fav cars to get for reliability generally speaking
In 2006 I purchased a new Acura TSX with a k24 (2.4l) with a 6 speed manual. The only issue I had was the power steering pump went at 150k. The dealer wanted $400 to replace it. I purchased one for $100 and installed it myself. At 185k (mostly highway), I gave the car to my son. He drive it for a year, put on 20k, and then traded it for an Accord. It still had the original clutch (205k miles), and never burned any oil. I used Mobil1 and changed it every 5k. It was one of the best cars I ever owned.
I always pull the negative on my battery because i hate seeing the check engine light and i know its just the evap code 😂
Can someone please give me the gist of what this meandering wheezing is about? Thanks.
I actually liked the emission testing in TN. Yeah, it was a pain when you failed and either had to get it fixed or go to a mechanic that would tune your car so that it would pass and then put it back the way it was when you were done, but there are good things about it besides reducing pollution, which I'm all for. It was really useful when you were buying a used car and using a service like Carfax. You not only knew that it passed emission testing the previous year, but it also helped you verify that the mileage was correct. I feel like now that we don't have that paper trail, used car buying will be riskier.
Definitely. Buying a used car from a state with yearly inspection requirements decreases (not eliminates!) the chances it'll be garbage. Like you wrote, it also leaves a paper trail.
Scotty can you do a video on the 2021 Hyundai Santa fe, my wife and i just bought one used 50,000 miles on it, and want to know what you think? Thanks
Scotty, we need more hand gestures.
Why do my brakes squeak the first time I drive the car for the day? They only make noise for 2 or 3 minutes.
What do you think about super tech oil from wal mart?
I'm starting to wonder if Scotty likes CVT's or not? 🤷
Which scanner do you use bro
Our 09 TSX still runs beautifully.
Engine rebuilt by Honda?
What do you think of the Nissan Versa S with the 5 speed manual?
Which one is Scotty?
Thank you for the updates and information. God bless you and your family.😊
Scotty, you will be doing this show from the nursing home, going over visitors cars; and doing a video from a wheelchair.😃
@scottykilmer exactly how much does it cost to reTIRE?
Sheesh. Didn’t even clean the connector off of the corrosion. That’s why I do my work myself
from battery manufacturer(s): "Whether they are located on the top or side of a battery, battery terminals should be treated very carefully and never be used to lift, move, carry or secure a battery."
I had the same car (2009 - standard transmission) that started using oil. I replaced the PVC valve with OE valve that reduce the oil usage to about a quart every 7,500 miles. Unfortunately the axle got loose in the transmission. I had to junk at 212,000 miles after the front wheel came off driving into a parking lot. Overall good car with original engine, transmission, clutch and alternator. Most expense repair was replacing the starter ($725). Mechanic indicated that he could have the replace the loose axle ($630), but it was 50/50 whether that would fixed the problem. The inside transmission might be broken? I probably should have had the transmission oil drained to see if there were any metal shavings inside?
You didn't clean the power cable before putting it on. You said before you took battery out it was corroded... slipping up scotty.
I tried to share mine before I retired, and my wife dumped me. 😂🎉😅
Scotty you crack me up 😂😂😂
You can still get a decent 12v from Costco for $120-$150
Yeah the auto parts store is the absolute last place to buy batteries, total ripoff
When I was in a career auto mechanics program in the 70s, our teacher swore by Castrol oil.
Hey Thanks
I love your work, in the end basically just good practical advice with a good dab of experience. May I suggest something. For years (20?) when changing batteries we clean terminals and then give the posts and connectors a quick coating of “Fluidfilm” this is a Lanolin based spray that lubes but never, I mean never drys out or cracks up. The end result is you do not get any corrosion on battery terminals period! I’m talking 5-7, years life of the battery time frames. The terminal will dust over and just remain like that for ever period! I’m thinking that it may well extend the life of a well maintained battery also. As the saying goes “Try it you’ll like it”
I get company's need cutoffs for rework..but damn
RIP, Sad news for Scotty fans
Mobil 1 synthetic ✅😁 instant better gas mileage
I started using Fluid film spray on battery terminals. Air can't get to them to corrode works great
So you are going to retire well I wish you the best in your retirement journey
After watching Scotty's videos I made sure my Highlander I bought had the V6 and 8 speed auto tranny. Thanks Scotty.
CVT is more efficient than a=Auto, which translates to saving money on fuel. I have manuals trans, aust trans and now my ist CVT. I like the CVTs smoothness & even in echo mode, it gains overall acceleration over full automatics. However I agree about all electronic crap in modern cars. Electricals is the most unreliable componant in cars. Why then have we put electronics between the driver and the mechanical operation of the car? why is the handbrake a switch & actuator instead of a mechanical linkage? I really hate that, its a recipe increased failures & frequent expensive repairs....... Back in the 70s, I did all of my own servicing & repairs. Now I can do nothing at all even if I wanted too or had too for ecconomic reasons. Seems to me, technology should serve us not us serve it.
I love CVT transmissions ❤❤❤❤❤❤🎉
I have a 2017 Nissan Rogue with CVT and love it. I got scared after I read all of the horror stories on them and Nissan did settle a class action lawsuit on them, but I think as long as you treat them gently and change the transmission fluid every 20-30k miles, they can do fine. They even simulate the gears shifting now for those people that didn't like the "motorboat" sound they used to make.
Standard transmission are way better. They are more robust and I know what gear I'm in.. 😉
@Dazlidorne yeah... crap cvts... needs babysitting. 😂
@@Dazlidorne My cousin has a 2014 Rogue and her transmission failed when she came to visit me 6 years ago, she didn’t even make it here, I had to pick her up at a service station next to the highway and she had her car towed from there as it would barely move on it’s own. Her car had 57k… It cost her $3500k to have it rebuilt.
ITS ALIVE!!!!! My rolling pile of junk Cub Cadet is running! Of course I had to bang on the starter because the Bendix spring was stuck, started acting up right away, with the roaming governor; but there is a sweet spot between rabbit and turtle that sustains operation. 3 years old. Complete piece of CRAP!!!!
Sadly, I don't consider a 2010 an "old" car!😁
Thank you for the time you have put into talking with us over the past few years!
If a Kia uses a quart of oil every 1,000 miles, it's crap. If a Honda, Toyota, Lexus or Acura uses oil every 1,000 miles, it's OK
Honda and Toyota have particular engines with oil burning issues, and they typically don’t start burning until after 100k miles. Even then, they can run for hundreds of thousands of miles burning oil with no issues. Kia and Hyundai will burn oil the moment they leave the dealer and blow up before they get 60k miles on them. Huge difference. My daughter’s 2005 Camry with the 2AZ-FE started burning oil around 150k and it’s been burning a quart every 600 miles and now has 250k in it and still runs like a top. Its in such good shape that she’s just going to drive it until the engine finally goes or I’ll buy it off her when she’s ready for a new car and I’ll put a rebuilt engine in it and use it as my commuter for the next 20 years. Kia and Hyundai are just throw away cars.
I have a 2015 Chevy Silverado with 128,000 miles and don"t burn any oil !@@jpete3027666
Agree, which is it,sounds a little biased.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Battery reset, very nice, thanks Scotty.
Some cars will have to relearn the idle and stall on some stops for a couple of drives.
I just had a faulty battery and I drove with it for a couple months. Probably had to jump start it with my jumper like 20 times at least. Eventually right before I replaced it the fuel gauge started giving wrong readings. Got a new battery now and it's slowly getting more accurate by the day but it's still a little wonky. It's kind of Lucky though the way it turned out is empty is at about the empty Mark now. Instead of 70 or 80 miles Beyond it which it used to be.
When Scotty talks......people are listening.....because he knows....
and he is the BEST........Thank you Sir Scotty.....take good care!
did he really just reconnect the + terminal full of corrosion onto the new battery?

).K. Scotty. your saying that car. The guy uses it for Uber and such. and he's got big pillows in the back. Now that's comfortable. Now that's my kind of ride .
Haha it's probably Uber eats. Most places Uber won't let you use a car that old for the taxi service
I'm always keeping a lookout for a good used car if one shows up but I'm really kind of leery about buying a used Acura and the reason is because a lot of owners really beat on them hard. That and you just don't know if they've maintained it properly or even at all. That just makes me kind of shy away from them.
This sure is easier than working though...
