- This is my newly converted red special guitar. It took a lot of courage to stick a router in this but this has been on my wish list for too long.
This is also my first 'proper' guitar and was way to much money that I could not justify at the time lol.
Start to finish was just under a month but as this was over Christmas, I did take a break in between. Total working time was 1 week and 6 days.
All parts were from Guitar and Woods. They have a Red Special Kit with all replica parts such as the knife-edge trem block and electronics.

Incredible, the craftsmanship and the playing, just incredible
I'm impressed for sure. Nice Tone!!!
Nice work on the conversion . Looks great.
Looks amazing! Great job!!
Dude! Nice job, man! The guitar looks amazing, and your playing is excellent! Thanks for taking the time to do this video. : )
Alright you have done a fantastic job sounds great and looks great to keep well dan 🎸
Excellent man, great job.
Great Job Keep Up The Great Work.
Very nice
Hey, man. Thanks for posting this. I'm wanting to do a conversion but I'm scared I will just mess it all up. I know Woody and others will do 'em, but I can't afford that option right now. You making a video showing it done REALLY helps.
No problem! I did it because i'm tight lol. Just remember to plan ahead and measure three times and cut once!
@@CollumPlz good advice! :)
Superbe boulot
nice job, and thank you for not playing One Vision!
Awesome job! Congratulations, and wish many hours of great play! I have one question. Where did you buy your guitar? Original or Aliexpress. I ask because I would like to know more about Aliexpress red preciso quality
Is there a chance to se see more close up pictures?
Wow…….
Did you not mount the pots as well to the body ?
what did you do with the back side of the guitar? where the original wilkinson trem springs are, is it just open?
I would like to fill it in but I'm not good at creating perfectly sized cavity blocks so instead I have kept the black plastic trem cover attached :)
Is “Headlong” from one of the Paul Rogers tours?
I think it's from Brian's show at Brixton 1993
Hi. Does this bigsby-like tremolo make any difference in terms of playing? I ask bc Brian May Guitars could have use a Les Paul bridge with rollers and a bigsby type tailpiece for a similar price
Also, some guitars have floyd rose bridge, but I have never seen any mainstream brand use this type of tremolo
I think this style of trem Brian uses is amazing I have the wilkisons since I don’t have a conversion yet
Sorry for late reply! Brian May's trem is incredibly unique and is nothing like any other trem back in the 60s when he built it. Its a floating bridge, balanced on a knife edge with custom rollers to promote sustain.
The trem is a big part of the Red Special design, which is why BMG uses a Wilkinson bridge.
@@CollumPlz amazing job! my question was more about the industrial scalability. I was talking to my neighbours that make aluminum and other metal pieces for NASA and other big customers. They can make 500 or more with a precision of +- 0.0005 mm but they say that building one is incredibly inconvenient because up to the first one hundred units the fixed cost is really high and you must produce in volume, because it is a simple piece but you need around 500 units to produce them at 40 CAD (30 USD)
Holy sh*t you have his sound down to a T! What amp/pedals/pickups are you using?!
Thanks! I’m using Amplitube 5 surprisingly with the stock BMG tri sonic pickups. I may upgrade the pickups to something closer and also the audio interface as my one is lacking punch :)
@@CollumPlz Hi, what preset are you using in Amplitube 5?
@@angelmolina.14 Marco G's preset from his facebook page:)
Fancy doing a lefty??
I only play right handed
I was scammed!!! I still can't play like Brian.....
only Brian can play like Brian
Nobody should want to play just like him. Brian himself wouldn’t want it, even if he is flattered by the number of people that are going at it. For my part, if I did minor buying a red special, there are many things I would want different about it. I like the way the pickups sound for the moment, only I would probably want to get rid of the scratch plate at some point. I also would think of replacing the pickups with P 90s in the future if I could modify the their cavities.
@@Shred_The_WeaponI take my inspiration of playing from him but I’m still my own player everyone’s different lol
