I remember seeing Nathan on the set of "Castle" at Raleigh Studios, and he was sick as a dog; but he kept working. Between shots, he'd collapse on a sofa. When they called for him, he hopped up and went to it. When I'm sick as a dog, all I can do is lie in bed. Nathan is a real acting champ!
I was in a play and there were a couple of days that I was really sick, but had to perform. And a funny thing happened: I'm guessing it's adrenaline or something similar to that, but when I had to go out there, the sickness went away and I was suddenly fine. The mind is a powerful thing. I wasn't faking my sickness, but my duty and responsibility, in my mind, took over and willed my body to not be sick or to momentarily not be sick. I do think adrenaline is a big part of it. When I go out there (sick or not sick) the body goes into flight or fight mode, the body gets all tingly/numb. You're basically facing (taking on) a crowd of people and you're commanding the room. I did get used to it a bit deep into doing many performances for certain plays, but that fight or flight mode still happens to some extent.
I love his approach to guest-work. I've been lucky enough to start to get guest-work and co-stars and it's always delicate the first day being welcomed into a family / well-oiled machine. Thanks for sharing this!
I hope he told him the script learning secret. I keep hearing some of the best actors out there talk about breaking down scripts. Something to do with taking the first letter of every word and eventually just needing the first letter of the first word in the sentence. Some crazy stuff.

Nathan Fillion now looks like a young Sully
To me, he looks like he is related to actor Pedro Pascal from The Mandalorian.
You really ask great questions. Great show. Peace. Nathan is like a sober charlie sheen.
