On "learning about the transmission"; Angel, you have embarked on an age old "car people" tradition; faced with big unknowns, you sought mentors and found them. Your confidence rose exponentially, and here you are. One secret they may not have told you- you may be able to assemble it wrong- but it will not work as it should, and just checking the rates of rotation as you manuelly shift it through the gears and turn it will tell you so. Most, however, won't even assemble if you have made an error. The next one will be much less mystical and more of the common sense you already know from working on engines- which actually have more parts, but they aren't all looking approximately the same. Kudos, Angel! Btw, the cutesy you did behind the blot away is called "working the shaft", thought you would want to know!
I'm astounded at what one can learn JUST by looking...closely...at all the parts and finding out how they go together and work! How people can do this without exploded drawings and technical manuals just boggles my tiny mind! Yet...here you are...getting 'er done! Fantastic work. Aloha.
I must admit, hearing you reference Eric the Car Guy as an expert made me miss his channel. I've learned a lot from him. When he decided to slow down his channel a lot, there was a big void in my YT queues. Happy to see him helping you out, virtual though it may be!
Awesome, you've got almost everything you need and this rebuild will be super easy for you. Also, it's great to see that you have that steel retainer for the counter shaft already with your T5, that's a great upgrade! :)
Learning new skills is part of the hobby. You can get a service manual online. Take your time, enjoy the process, learn and grow and you will be intimidated no more. Looking forward to more of this build. Cheers! 😎👍🏎🏁🏁🐎
Love your content! I don't understand why you don't have more subscribers? ... I think it must be the algorithm, which doesn't make sense because I watch A LOT of of car videos. The only reason I found you is because of Sarah (it wasn't the algorithm).
Nice. That comment that you could have just rebuilt it by now. Whatever. It's not like you bought it knowing it was going to be broke as well. Its all learning man. Roll with it.
Have been into a few 4-speeds; at least one 3-speed w/sun-planet over-drive, all of them had at least the second-gear synchro-ring stretched / worn out. Shifting forks noticeably worn down on the three-speed - (From holding the shifter, so the trans. would not pop out of gear). 🙃 Usual manual transmission abuse stuff encountered.
@@rookie__pilot Drivers... Slam shifter shifting, (as you mentioned already in your video. 2.) Missed gear shifts at high RPM / races, (couple of my best guesses, plus personal experience 😳).
Hi Angel guess you’re going to transmission school. I’m sure you’ll get it working! It’s just an unplanned for detour. Wonder if maybe someone has a detailed assembly sheet or service manual that would help you with correct instructions. Hopefully you can get any damaged pieces so they can be replaced. Stay cool
You have my heartfelt condolences. This is one of the hardest things, reassembling something that you did not take apart. I feel your pain and wishing you luck before I watch the rest of the video. It was a very good video, Just out of curiosity how long did all this actually take you ?
Option 3--find a better transmission I have the same issue with an engine for my Rambler….the original was bad, bought a “good” larger engine that was also bad…started buying parts and those parts are now bad from a flood…. Option three - find a better engine
Not only tackling a standard transmission rebuild, but the filming a production a just top notch man. Well done.
When cleaning there is Rookie Pilot “we are not going to go too crazy” and there is Sarah-n-Tuned “we are going to go crazy and clean everything”
Right 😂😂
Life is a balancing act. 😉

Very well said, thanks for the tips! Mystical is a perfect work for the situation 😂

Well thanks Jim!!

Exactly!
Things are moving forward! Great to see!
You should have made Ozzie clean the shaft.. hahahaha
Dammit! Ill make him so the bellhousing and tail housing 😂
Great video
I actually have a T5 that needs a rebuild. So thanks for the info!
Glad it could help!!
It looks ominous at first but when you're finished and cruising down the boulevard you can stick your chest out and say, Yes, I did it myself!
@@randyfleet9968 absolutely!!
Probably have an extra shift fork because they are usually bent from people trying to slam gears.
Good job!
Thanks!
a brass brush will be more aggressive on the rust but its softer than the steel so it won't scratch it up
The main shaft needs love! 😂

Interesting to see what causes the different wear!

Polish that shaft up, man!

Thanks Darren, yes looks like im gonna be learning how to do it one way or another!

Took me a whole day to figure out what all these parts were lol
I have Paul Cangialosi's book "How to rebuild and modify high performance manual transmissions".
Well worth the money to help get thru the process.
You should probably run all new sincros. Kinda silly to run only two new ones.

Ohhh noooo
You know what grinds my gears. People that don’t know how to drive manual transmissions.
Lol
At the risk of stating the obvious.........somebody on the internet has a vid on this tear down rebuild.
😎🍺👍🇦🇺
🤘🏼👍🏻
do you have a Harbor freight near you?
@@richallen5408 yes a couple!
