I loved unnatural causes so much!!! As someone who works in pathology, it was so exciting to learn about some of the most significant cases that impacted the way we practice now
My favorite psychological/mystery/thriller book is The Secret History by Donna Tartt. It’s very well-written and the characters are interesting although they’re very unlikeable at times, which is sort of the point. The best way I can describe it is that it’s a murder mystery, but you know who killed who from the very first page. Essentially, the novel is the story of how the characters grew to become involved in the murder. It’s more of a “whydunnit” than a “whodunnit”, which I found really interesting. I’m not sure if you’d like it, but I’d definitely recommend it for those who love psychological-thrillers. 😅
I've read 36 books so far this year, cuz I literally have had nothing to do since the pandemic broke out. And I just added all these books to my TBR. Lol..
If you haven’t, you should definitely read the book “Brain on Fire” by Susannah Cahalan, it’s a nonfiction recount of her journey through strange symptoms to a rare medical diagnosis. It’s fantastic!
My favorite thrillers are Gone Girl (or anything Gillian Flynn writes), Dark Matter by Blake Crouch which is kind of sci-fi but not that much and maybe The Kind Worth Killing by Peter Swanson
Oh Georgia I do love your corner of UA-cam 🖤 I love the balance of true crime and chatty videos you have. I too thoroughly enjoyed Unnatural Causes, can’t stop thinking about it! I have just finished Where The Crawdads Sing and really don’t see the hype. I definitely want to get my hands on the dystopian series you mentioned!
Thanks for the book reviews, Georgia, I always enjoy your book videos a lot. I can't recommend a psychological thriller, however, sg that's not really fiction (it's an autobiography) but definitely reads like one is Unorthodox by Deborah Feldman. I think it's really beautifully written and what a fascinating, gripping story.
Omg thank you for recommending the pathologist book, I want to become one I might get that book to know more about it for someone who’s gone through it 💛💛
I was just looking for some new books to read! I've just finished The Silent Patient and it had such a good plot twist! One of us is next and Sythe sound fab 😍
I’d really recommend Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn if you haven’t already!! It’s the same author as Gone Girl, in fact I’d recommend all of Gillian Flynn’s books
Thank you; was going to recommend same. As far as twist, "You have GOT to be kidding me!" endings go, I like "Sharp Objects" best b/c I did NOT see the who - and most especially the WHY coming. At all. :::shivers::: to this day.
I loved The Chalk Man. The Taking of Annie Thorne was, sadly, underwhelming. Some recommendations: 13 Minutes by Sarah Pinborough, Dangerous Girls by Abigail Haas, Final Girls by Riley Sager, The Last Time I Lied by Riley Sager, With Malice by Eileen Cook, Don't Look Back by Jennifer L. Armentrout, The Good Daughter by Karin Slaughter, and The Woman in the Window by A.J. Finn.
i recommend 'the one' by john marrs, it's not so much focused on crime but it has elements of it in, genuinely read it in about 3 days I think as I could not put it down!
I don’t really read anymore because I only read books that I find extremely interesting the whole time but I gave ‘Unnatural Causes’ a chance after watching this video and it is AMAZING! It’s so true, I couldn’t stop reading it!
You should read Eeny Meeny by M.J Arlidge, I think you'll like it! I have already bought Scythe so I'm ready to start reading it! Good to know that one of my favorite youtubers loves this book! Also, I'm at 12 of 30 books this year for my goodreads goal!
My fav psychological thriller is I let you go by claire mackintosh. And Then She was gone by lisa Jewell! For a faster and more suspenseful read: My lovely wife by smarie downing and lock every door by Riley sager are also great!! Psychological thriller is my fav genre :)
Have you ever read the goldfinch by Donna Tartt? It’s my favourite book and they recently came out with a film! I think it’s something you might enjoy too x
I am also on the hunt for the best thiller this year! I recently read The Chestnut man and I loved it! It’s 500pgs so a little intimidating but well worth every page
Also - seeing as you liked Unnatural Causes, definitely read Past Morterms by Carla Valentine! It’s very similar but from the perspective of a mortician. And if you haven’t read it already This Is Going To Hurt by Adam Kay is from his perspective as a junior doctor and is such a good book x
Currently reading unnatural causes! I love when you do book videos we have the same taste! Apart from I actually found the Shari Lapena books alright 🤷🏻♀️
I just started reading "Found" by Erin Kinsley. Heard great things about it. Next after that will be "The Family Upstairs" by Lisa Jewell. I fully recommend Dark Places by Gillian Flynn. I loved it, and couldn't put it down. I also recommend "Through The Wall" by Caroline Corcoran.
Georgia, I think you'd enjoy Claire Mackintosh's books, she's good at mystery. I also really like Linwood Barclay (though don't read Elevator Pitch... it's great but not for you for obvious reasons). The best (or worst because it scared the shit out of me) psychological thriller I've read was Behind Closed Doors by BA Paris. I started and finished it on a flight from Lanzarote and it was not an enjoyable read but is a great thriller. The last 10 books I've read are: 1. Iris Grace by Arabella Carter Johnson - true story of a young girl with autism 2. The man who didn't call by Rosie Walsh - chic lit mystery 3. One of us is lying/next by Karen McManus - as you said, awesome YA mystery 4. Adventures of the Yorkshire Shepherdess by Amanda Owen - random but really interesting and nice escapism 5. Moonrise by Sarah Crossan - heartbreaking look at the death penalty 6. Never Look Away by Linwood Barclay - good mystery/thriller, I really like the twists and turns in his books 7. Take Me In by Sabine Durrant - TERRIBLE. Absolutely awful. I don't normally review books online but I deliberately did with this one to tell other people how bad it was 8. Unnatural Causes by Richard Shepherd.- thank you for the recommendation, it was really interesting and I do enjoy a good profession-based biography 9. The Beach Hut Next Door by Veronica Henry - nice holiday read, pretty much as it sounds 10. Five Feet Apart by Rachael Lippincott - similar vibe to The Fault in our Stars, has now been made into a film. I really enjoyed it. And currently reading The Flatshare which I'm really enjoying. Nice, easy, lighthearted read :)
Unsure if it's your cup of tea, but I found Alias Grace (Margaret Atwood) to be a thoughtful and interesting take on a psychological thriller. It's also a mini series on netflix. Its interesting because it makes you think about what is a psychopath, really? (plus there are other themes layered in).
IceCream EBook Reader and Adobe Digital Editions are great for reading eBooks on PC. It's funny, I have an Amazon Fire Tablet, but it's so slow and janky, I rarely use it. I've been meaning to read again as my eyes tend to be weaker now, but I have a whole slew I want to get into. Some of the best books I can think of off hand - Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell (it's a teen fic but it's so good) and Rosie Project by Graeme Simison. Also the Black Dahlia Files by Don Wolfe was a book I couldn't put down.
The Black Book by James Patterson and Daughters of the Lake by Wendy Webb were both enjoyable. I listen to audible while working so I don't have the deep dive of sitting and figuring out a plot as I solely focus on the book. I'm not sure if they're guessable plots, but I wasn't able to guess the endings.
Clare Mackintosh’s books are brilliant. I would recommend I Let You Go, I See You and Let Me Lie. Twists that even I (who reads a lot of thrillers!) didn’t see coming. Also I downloaded Unnatural Causes last night and I was reading it until 4am... oops! 😂
Aw this is a brilliant video to have on while I plan my to be read lists for May, June and July! Do you read any Stephen King at all? If you're not a big fan of horror I highly recommend King's 'Mr Mercedes' series which are crime thrillers with a bit of supernatural.
Im currently reading Demi Moore's autobiography-its great and inspiring, One book ive always remembered is Burial Rites by Australian author Hannah Kent I read it before it was popular. My next books I'm reading are Reading Lolita in Tehran: A Memoir in Books Iranian author Azar Nafisiand. Also The Snowman by Jo Nesbo as that has been in my bookcase for years haha
Hi Georgia, thank you for another great video! :) The best thriller book I've read recently is Night Film written by Marisha Pessl. It's a dark, complex story about the secrets of a (fictional) movie director and his family. The printed version of the book includes attachments like photographs, newspaper interviews or screenshots of a dark web forum, which I found really cool and eerie. The book was very unique, scary and easy to read at the same time. Definitely recommend!
The Toll, book 3 of The Arc of the Scythe is a little weird. I blew through the first two, expecting the second one to be the final one and couldn’t wait to get my hands on Book 3 “The Toll”. However I’ve had it for two months and am only a quarter of the way through it. (I read the other two in 2-3 days each), so idk I guess it’s just a super slow going plot....
Taking of Annie Sloane was brilliant, without spoiling it for anyone that hasn't read it I burst out laughing at the response to the house brick, unfortunately i was on n my own, on the bus. Haha
I felt the exact same about the Lisa Jewell and Shari Lapena books! I didn't like the first Lapena book but gave the second one a go just in case, I think I got caught up in all the advertising and hype!
I am SUCH a huge psychological thriller fan (basically all I read) and I would say that my tops are: No Exit by Taylor Adams(OH MY GOD THIS ONE KEPT ME GUESSING THE WHOLE TIME!) Bring Me Back, The Breakdown or Behind Clothes Doors by B.A Paris ( i DEVOUR these) The Lakehouse by Kate Morton (a lighter psychological thriller but I quite liked it) The Last Time I Lied (If you liked the movie A Simple Favor you'll like this) The Turn of The Key by Ruth Ware (Another one that has you guessing the ENTIRE TIME) The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware (Ruth is just the best, she really knows how to write a good one) The Anomaly (Not a psychological thriller, but more a sci-fi thriller? It's so freaking good I'm gonna read it again this year)
We have such similar book tastes! I recommend The Kind Worth Killing by Peter Swanson ( fantastic twist!) and Jar of Hearts by Jennifer Hillier ( very dark, twisted book but I think you would like it) honestly, they are by 2 favourite books of the year so far. Amazing psychological thrillers! Xxx
I’d like to recommend The Chosen Ones by Howard Linskey, I thought that book was great. I’d also recommend Don’t Tell Teacher by Suzy K Quinn. That book completely took me by surprise at the end and I loved it!
I also loved The Silent Patient, as well as the Karen M McManus books. If you want an adult thriller I recommend The Turn of the Key by Ruth Ware, but if you want something more like the McManus books I loved the Truly Devious trilogy, and A Good Girl's Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson (the sequel just came out so I am yet to read it)
You have a very good taste in this genre of books. I loved unnatural causes as well when I read it I felt the exact same opinions as you did and same with family upstairs it’s an amazing book once you give it some time and get into it. A book I would defo recommend it called -Sleep by CL Taylor it’s honestly a great psychological thriller book and page turner so would 💯💯💯 recommend it.
I love your book videos! 😊 I recommend The Snowman by Jo Nesbo (the film was not great though) and The Bone Collector by Jeffery Deaver. Both are crime/ psychological thrillers where a creepy serial killer is leaving behind clues at each murder site.
I can only read when in the mood so I haven’t read in a while but I need to finish soulmates, and the silent patient - which is amazing so far, and I’ve got the series of ‘one of us is lying’ I just havent started yet
One of us is lying is still one of my favourite books! Excellent writing and plot creation. I recommend With Malice by Eileen Cook, it's about a young adult who survives an accident that killed her best friend and is accused of muder but has no memory so you can't trust the narrator and it's broken up with interview transcriptions and news reports. Somewhat like Alias Grace by Margret Attwood but more modern. I'm listening to Aristotle and Dante Discover The World after hearing so many great reviews but I have say it's not doing much for me
I know its an old one but agatha christie the murder of roger ackroyd. It starts as a cosy village with nothing happening but has so many twists and turns. Id also suggest death on the nile its less psychological but the plots so clever and the ABC murders is also amazing ! Thank you for your reading reviews definitely added a few x
You should try Sarah J Maas. It’s a very different but she’s classic YA Either Crescent City or ACOTAR (The first acotar book reads a little young but the two other books are fantastic)
a little late to the party but the best psychological thriller i’ve read is I Let You Go by Clare Mackintosh. i usually guess the endings to things straight away but i had to put my book in the freezer for this one! i was so shocked! i think about the twist a lot
ive only read an unwanted guest by shari lapena and i rly didn’t think it was that great so if u didn’t enjoy her other two i probably wouldn’t recommend u read tht one either!! thanks for your reviews tho, i looove a video about books! xx
I really recommend ‘The Humans’ by Matt Haig. It’s not a thriller but it is so interesting and offers a great analysis on humanity though an unusual POV. The premise will sound a bit strange at first, since it has to do with aliens lol, but I promise it is amazing. One of my favorite books ever.
If you haven't read it, I wouldn't necessarily call in a psychological thriller but it is a little bit of a mystery surrounding a disappearance, I suggest Catherine O'Flynn's "What Was Lost." I read it for uni and imo it was so good. Pretty short too
My favourite psychological thriller is ‘99 red balloons’ by Elisabeth Carpenter. It has multiple narratives, is so well written and full of things you won’t expect!
Have you "the woman in cabin 10" or "the woman in the window"? I enjoyed them for more mystery style. Reading the Shiver Trilogy. I recommend the first book for sure for those into the "your name" narrative (werewolves involved). Thanks for the recommendations!! (:
did you ever read unwind? it's not exactly a psychological thriller, much more dystopian/ya route, but it's a really interesting concept and definitely has touches of psychological thriller weaved in there. one scene in that book has scarred me and stayed with me ever since i read it however many years ago now. really recommend :) also aaddtsotu is one of my fave books of all time as well
Don't be worried about how much you read. I've been sitting at home not working for over a month and I haven't read a single book and I don't know why D:
Thanks for this video :) i feel like there are so many great and interesting topics for non fiction to pick from. I enjoy both no fiction and fiction 😂 like recently i read a lot of ww2 / nazi related books, mengele, wives of nazi leaders..
I would love a list of your top favourite Psychological thriller books 📚

Peter Swanson is an absolute GENIUS!

it's really really good, definitely get on it!
Georgia Marie I will! Thanks so much for replying to me, your honestly my idol❤️
It would be really good if you're thinking of becoming a pathologist. It's a very honest and realistic portrayal of the job.
Mom Cat22 Same, I thought I had the book all figured out half way through but I couldn’t of been more wrong
Really fighting the urge to immediately order all the books you just recommended 🤭
I mean I might be biased but DO IT!
Favourites added to Amazon wish list. I loved Unnatural Causes. So, so good.
Jane Harper’s books are good, the first one is called The Dry and I found it such a page turner xx
Love your reading/books videos! I really recommend Lost Daughter & His Secret Family by Ali Mercer and Now You See Her by Heidi Perks. x
I like the satisfaction of turning pages and seeing my progress.
I really want to read the Scythe series! I'm only on my 2nd book this year so far. I'm also still working full time.
I read behind closed doors recently!

The Anomaly (Not a psychological thriller, but more a sci-fi thriller? It's so freaking good I'm gonna read it again this year)
A Stranger in the House sounds like a BTEC The Girl on the Train. (Which I loved!)
Xxx

OMG read the butterfly garden by dot Hutchinson AMAZING BOOK
So excited for this!
I needed this video, but my bank balance didn't😂 great recommendations x
sorry to your bank balance!
Don’t worry my lovely! I’m sure it will forgive me in time😂 x
Your good . I dont even read fiction but found the video interesting, nice to see a intelligent persons response to stories that interest them!
I love your book videos! 😊
I recommend The Snowman by Jo Nesbo (the film was not great though) and The Bone Collector by Jeffery Deaver. Both are crime/ psychological thrillers where a creepy serial killer is leaving behind clues at each murder site.
omg please keep doing these videos!~
I LOVE Karen McManus’ books. I can’t wait to read the sequel to One of Us is Lying.
You should read “ the one “ by John marrs
I can only read when in the mood so I haven’t read in a while but I need to finish soulmates, and the silent patient - which is amazing so far, and I’ve got the series of ‘one of us is lying’ I just havent started yet

you should check out Blood Orange - Harriet Tyrce & Snap - Belinda Bauer. fantastic books!
Whatever happened to Baby Jane is pretty nice, just finished it myself. It's old timey but it's good
You should try Sarah J Maas. It’s a very different but she’s classic YA
Either Crescent City or ACOTAR
(The first acotar book reads a little young but the two other books are fantastic)
a little late to the party but the best psychological thriller i’ve read is I Let You Go by Clare Mackintosh. i usually guess the endings to things straight away but i had to put my book in the freezer for this one! i was so shocked! i think about the twist a lot
ive only read an unwanted guest by shari lapena and i rly didn’t think it was that great so if u didn’t enjoy her other two i probably wouldn’t recommend u read tht one either!! thanks for your reviews tho, i looove a video about books! xx
Please make more book videos! 💖
I've heard loads about Matt Haig but have never ventured into his stuff, not usually once for aliens but maybe I'll give it a go!
Am I a bad person if I admit that I skipped to the review of The taking of Annie Thorne to validate that it was no bueno?
I'd recommend brick lane and lovely bones
If you haven't read it, I wouldn't necessarily call in a psychological thriller but it is a little bit of a mystery surrounding a disappearance, I suggest Catherine O'Flynn's "What Was Lost." I read it for uni and imo it was so good. Pretty short too
My favourite psychological thriller is ‘99 red balloons’ by Elisabeth Carpenter. It has multiple narratives, is so well written and full of things you won’t expect!
Love these videos!
Have you "the woman in cabin 10" or "the woman in the window"? I enjoyed them for more mystery style. Reading the Shiver Trilogy. I recommend the first book for sure for those into the "your name" narrative (werewolves involved).
Thanks for the recommendations!! (:
I finished Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn recently and thought it was an excellent mystery/thriller. I would highly recommend it to you!
You need to read, into the water by Paula Hawkins, and blood orange!
You should read Unwind also by Neal Shusterman you would love it!
Yes, The Family Upstairs! Loved it! It was amazing and VERY creepy! Lots of insanity.
did you ever read unwind? it's not exactly a psychological thriller, much more dystopian/ya route, but it's a really interesting concept and definitely has touches of psychological thriller weaved in there. one scene in that book has scarred me and stayed with me ever since i read it however many years ago now. really recommend :) also aaddtsotu is one of my fave books of all time as well
No I've never heard of that before!! Sounds right up my street though, will definitely look into it
Don't be worried about how much you read. I've been sitting at home not working for over a month and I haven't read a single book and I don't know why D:
This is more of a post apocalyptic thriller but I would recommend Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel!
Thanks for this video :) i feel like there are so many great and interesting topics for non fiction to pick from. I enjoy both no fiction and fiction 😂 like recently i read a lot of ww2 / nazi related books, mengele, wives of nazi leaders..
Unpopular opinion: I actually liked Thunderhead more than Scythe!
