I like that it sheds light on how adults often tyrannically raise children to be under them all.
The magician wanted the children to always question if his magic was real or fake, as it teaches them to question adults more before assumptions become their truth. It's not that deep of a show but you can tell the writers had some honest resentment over the education system. Really enjoyed this show despite it's flaws.

Great review! Sound of Magic was one of those shows where it took me a second try to get into, even though I'm also a huge fan of musicals. I guess I just wasn't in the right mood the first time. But I couldn't get the songs out of my head so I gave it another go and that's when it clicked beautifully for me! Also, highly recommend a re-watch because you pick up on a lot of foreshadowings and clues to Ri eul's identity and the missing schoolgirl plotline. As for a second season, it's highly unlikely because the webtoon that it's based on - Annarasumanara - is already finished and has no follow-up season. I haven't read the webtoon (yet) but I knew about it even before this netflix adaptation because it's considered a masterpiece webtoon in Korea and among global webtoon fans. So if you're craving a second season, that's unlikely to materialize, I highly recommend reading the webtoon.

It's so cool how this was a webtoon- they did really well keeping it almost the exact same as the original comic

Ha-na made me want to kick people like her into a pit of fire /j
But in all seriousness, Ri-eul and Ah-yi's chemistry made me squeal hard! The ending honestly made me cry :')

I agree with you but was anyone else upset that she was singing and not taking care of the bird, or calling his HS friend?

Thanks for the fine review. I'm inclined to think that the show's central question, "Do you believe in Magic?", is best interpreted as "Do you believe in Art?" For, really, it's not the fictional magician's actions that enchant us, it's the show's cinematic razzmatazz that dazzles our eyes. What, indeed, does Art do to us? Is it Art that can inspire the class egghead to abandon (gasp!) Ambition and embrace . . . what? the world as it is?
