    I love watching you scavenge reminds me of back in the 70's when I was a kid here in the UK we used to go to the local dump and riffle through bags and boxes and find jewellery, small antiques and allsorts of little treasures, I got quite a few quid doing that, it was like treasure hunting. Love your vids, cheers Mike.

    I had to return a microwave I purchased at Lowe's because it wasn't the right size to fit the space. Left in car so a employee would lift it out and went in did the return and got the right one. The salesman came out side and because of covid he put a sticker on the box and cut an x across the bar code and told me to dispose of it because they couldn't take back in store. I sold it on market place

    The most immediately hazardous part of the TVs is the high voltage circuit that could shock you if still charged. Most likely not, but you never know. Then there's the broken glass, big cutting hazard and the phosphorous coating used inside the crt (cathode ray tube) that is now free to float about, don't need to be breathing it. But the big issue with recycling old TVs is the leaded glass the crt tube is made from. The lead in the glass won't be a problem unless you plan on grinding it to dust and breathing or eating it. Recyclers don't have an economical way of processing it, so don't want it. The yoke coil and wiring harness have copper wire, some value in certain circuit boards. Also other lead, cadmium and other metals that should be professionally dealt with.

    • @samvalentine3206
      @samvalentine3206 2 роки тому +1

      The degaussing coil is some really thick solid copper wire that goes around the tube on the inside - maybe 6 or 8 gauge solid copper. Something to consider - maybe 3+ feet of it.

    I would love to see if that microwave is new. I don’t think so. Because when stainless steel appliances are new they have that plastic film on them to keep them from getting scratched. But you never know. The other 2 microwaves shows what happens when you forget and put aluminum foil in them and it starts a fire and you grab it and throw it outside to keep it from burning the house down. 😂🤣😂🤣🤣🤣😂😘 But those look like after you threw them out you jumped up and down on them. 🤣😂😂😂😂. We know that Mighty Mike and darling Dottie will get to the bottom of it. Stay safe and God Bless

    Mostly old style tv's are hazardous to your muscles trying to lift them. Heavy and awkward. The picture tubes are under vacuum so there is that. I don't think there's a lot of scrap in them either.

    • @jayr9810
      @jayr9810 2 роки тому

      Plenty of scrap value, copper yolk, thick degaussing copper cable, low grade power board, #2 insulated wire. Easily $6-$10 each quick and easy, hardest part is taking the back plastic off, yolk comes off with one screw, board slides out and thick cable pulls out

    What happened to the microwave? My first night working in a high rise control center. I had not been on duty ten minutes when the person training me said: "The fire alarm is about to go off." I asked how she knew, and she said: "The stairwells just pressurized." Sure enough, fire alarm went off. A worker had placed a bag of popcorn in the microwave and instead of pressing three minutes, pressed 30 minutes. It was an eventful night.

    • @The_Dudester

      @@dianna3157 That night, the microwave caught fire and it burned about 20-30 square feet of the break room. The alarms were flashing from about 10:15, when it all began until 7 AM because that's how long it took to clear the air.

    Hi Mike, you wear me out just watching you. You do more work in 30 minutes than I do all day but my work is a bit different from yours. Those barbecues have brass fittings on them where the gas connects BTW and the regulator is Aluminum. Every little bit helps, the more you grab the more you have. One man's trash is another man's cash.
