Great solution - thank you! I'm going to do this. I'm using bigger reusable silica gel bags and am also adding a small USB-powered fan to circulate the air in the box. I might even add a UV lamp.

Hi guy , yep ive been using the same setup for years and it has served me well . Just one small point ........instead of using silica gel ,try Cat litter . It does a similar job as regards the humidity level but the additional blue crystals in it are copper sulphate hydrochloride which will kill any fungus in the vicinity .
could this work for lenses that are starting to form fungus? How do you store the cat litter inside the drybox?

@@katreenabacalso5027 silica kitty litter. It looks like white plastic balls with blue crystals scattered through it. Not the stuff that looks like sand/dirt.

@@TazharuOfficial No. Not loose. Put it in a sock with no holes in it. And tie it off,. obviously. You want to contain it. Not so sure about a paper bag. I've never actually used it. I know people use it on boats too. They'll put it in cupboards or little storage nooks to keep humidity and mold down.

Usually, the fungus was in your lens when it was assembled. Not to say you can't get it from your gear being damp. More an issue with older lenses. And it is very rare that one lens will contaminate another. Just don't store lenses together in dark confined places like your gear bag for long periods of time, without some form of drying agent. If you keep your gear clean, usually a peroxide/ammonia mix, you won't have to worry about fungus. Storing all lenses together, even the one or two with MINOR fungus won't contaminate the other lenses, in your dry box. :-)
Agreed, lenses don't infect others with fungus. There's always fungus inside everything that needs optimal conditions to grow. The reason people seem to think it's contagious is because they store these lenses in the same condition, and if fungus can grow in one lens in such condition it certainly can in another.
@@MinhAnhFromEarth can this methode store a camera for a long term.. Like 3-4months? I need to left my camera but i don't know how to keep it from fungus for such a long time...
I would disagree with your assessment - all fungus can grow by releasing spores into the surrounding air.

Here in the U.K. we are not as affected by humidity as other countries are, in general it only the lenses we need to worry about. That doesn’t mean we Brits should be complacent though. I have much the same setup but use a drawer. I have draft excluder tape between the drawer from and the main body of the office drawer stand it belongs in. I also have a UV torch and the lenses I rarely use I give them a blast of UV rays every so often just in case there’s anything microscopic I haven’t seen.

Thirty Five Studio It’s just a generic one off the internet. I tried looking for one the same but I’ve had it a while and designs have changed. You don’t need an expensive one as it’s the bulb that does all the work.

I use also the same box but since I own a camera on 2014, I use some Silica and absorber gel inside seaContainer. But last week I order an electric dehumidifier from aliexpress brand name Mi.but still waiting till now.

Love this DIY. I leve a block from ocean water in northern ca, and humidity has caused problems with clothing and even a mattress once.
If cameras are going to be stored for any period of time, consider removing the battery from them during storage. could even place them in a small zip lock bag, and twist tie the battery to the camera it came out from.

Maybe glass jars would be best for lens storage to avoid plastic containers off venting and fogging lens optics.

Haha but the thing is, the container can only fit up to 2 SLRs, or 3 if you only store the body.

Yes, it's only water coming from the gels. The silica part isn't volatile at microwave temperatures.

Raw rice will do but salt is best naturàl dehumidifier.
Just put 1/2 kilo of salt in open plastic container it will absorb all water vapors inside your drybox

I believe fungus don't die out even if there is no moisture. They'll just go dormant and will activate once exposed to moisture. the only sure fire wy to get rid of them is via cleaning (thru legit service centers) hope this helps

You could probably buy silica kitty litter cheaper. Put it in a sock.
Are you sure that infected lens with fungus have risk to spread it to other non infected lenses ? Spores are everywhere in the air by billions I don’t see how. Or if fungus in lens produce and eject spores but still fungus is everywhere . Don’t know . I think it’s ok to mix fungus lenses with non infected ones. Should I keep lens cap on or off inside dry box ? Isn’t it better to keep caps off so UV will kill fungus through dry box ? But at the same time there is a risk to scratch lens or touch it with your fingers accidentally haha
