Hope you guys will enjoy Subaru's reaction to the Yuffie DLC Ending! Really hope Part 2's trailer will be released soon. Watching Subaru plays FF7R really hyped me so much for the sequel. Also who is sad about Sonon? I really liked his character... Please like, comment & subscribe! Took a bit longer than planned. I was really too hung up on one phrase for hours... About Urashima Tarou: It's one of the most popular japanese folkore with Urashima Tarou a fisherman as the protagonist. In this story, one day Tarou saves a turtle on the seashore who then bring him to the Dragon Palace under the sea. There he meets the beautiful princess Otohime. After staying there for some days. He decides to go back to his village to be with his aging mother again. Before doing so Otohime gives him a box which will protect him from harm but he must not open it. When he's finally back he discovers that 300 years went by and that he lost his mother. In his grief he opens the box, and suddenly age. In that box was actually his old age. If you want more details go here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Urashima_Tar%C5%8D or search more on google. Anyway, what Subaru means by using this name is that like Urashima Tarou, Zack was misplaced in time and is actually possibly in the future and not what he thought as "his present". This could either mean that he's currently in Cloud & co's timeline, or that just by him surviving, his future/present was already greatly altered.
*On Urashima Taro & Zack:* Despite there being similar Western myths and Urashima Taro often being referred to as "The Japanese Rip Van Winkle" it wouldn't really make sense to try to use that to subtitle what Subaru is talking about. I'm glad you just left it with the asterisk pointing to the comments! What makes Urashima Taro most different from the other similar myths is that _he doesn't lose time mainly because he falls asleep somewhere._ He also generally gets to the Dragon Palace and meets the princess there because he saves a turtle. When he gets homesick, he receives a gift from the princess, which is a box he's told never to open. It's not until he opens the box that he rapidly ages into an old man and also can't return to the Dragon Palace. Zack's already experienced a very similar situation as a result of the Nibelheim Incident where he was asleep in the test pod, and meanwhile Aerith had been writing letters to him for 4 years and he wasn't at all aware how long he'd been gone until he gets her final letter at the end of _Crisis Core._ In _FFVII,_ Zack died saving Cloud before, which is a similar aspect to Urashima Taro as a heroic character saving a turtle. _Remake Intergrade_ now having Zack survive to be able to return BECAUSE he saved Cloud definitely has a similar feel to it setting up to give the same feel. Even in this alternate scenario where Zack survives and CAN finally get to Midgar, he's standing outside the doors of the church trying to figure out an appropriate greeting for having been missing - again, a similar issue for the character to face being time-displaced but trying to go back home. Upon opening the doors to the church and Aerith isn't there, the situation Zack's expecting is STILL what it's like when Urashima Taro returns home and doesn't see anything he recognizes, hence Subaru's comment on this coming in at the very end of the clip rather than earlier on.
@@s.2685 Yeah, it's one I wouldn't have thought of until now, but it's VERY apparent once Subaru called it out. Another parallel that's worth looking into if you like that kind of thing is the warrior monk Benkei who served Minamoto no Yoshitsune during the Heian period. His design has a LOT of links to Sonon's but also culturally to the shared practices of the monks & shinobi, where a lot of the things from Wutai are designed to share both. The two have a VERY similar dynamic to Sonon & Yuffie's relationship, like Benkei being bigger & being the subordinate, but on top of that, Benkei is famous for dying on a bridge while standing up. That was to ensure that Yoshitsune could escape and no one could go past to chase him down. Sonon's fate standing to block Nero from reaching the elevator so that Yuffie can get away is VERY much a parallel in the same sort of way that's extremely intentional if you're already aware of the reference. There's a lot of interesting storytelling like that that happens all throughout Remake, but it's especially prominent in the InterMISSION DLC, because of the focus on Wutai. *Last random trivia fact:* In Remake, all of Don Corneo's Asian-themed statues in Wall Market are designed to look like fake tourist cultural fusions that you'd buy from a knock-off street vendor, rather than like actual statues you'd see at temples or other places. It's to give a subtle impression that he's exploiting people for profit, but also hint towards how the original game has post-war Wutai being turned into a tourist destination, and he shows up there later.
@@AmekiClips (FFVII Remake and non-text information in its storytelling is something I've been doing a big personal project on for the last few years, so I can shed some light on that). That's mostly the cultural localization aspect of translation that doesn't get focused on as much, but it's usually why particular lines won't get 1:1 literal translation. Alterations are required around the sorts of things that don't really translate directly, or an underlying idea or intention that has a different phrase or equivalent (like basically every idiom), but these are just as important for another reason. That's a key factor in making the characters always feel like they're just people speaking naturally within whatever language the audio is using, rather than scripted roles repeating lines that don't sound like how real human beings actually talk to each other. Natural dialogue like that was a big part of FFXV, but _Remake_ actually pushes that even farther. It uses an AI system for all the in-game cutscenes that dynamically changes the facial expressions to match the audio, so that the characters' faces match how they're speaking and what they're saying beyond just matching lip movement without having to match the cadence of another language. With Barret being originally based on over-the-top African American characters like Mr. T, in _Remake_ Barret's mannerisms have to read a bit differently between the Japanese & English versions. That's specifically because the audience will pick up on certain things that feel fake differently depending entirely on cultural context & familiarity, but also different types of things tip the balance between character & caricature. The purpose of that specific "line" is Barret conveying being frustrated with the Chocobos in the back, by shouting about it to the people in the cab who aren't stuck sitting with them. Loudly mimicking the "KWEH!!!" like he does in Japanese doesn't match how someone would typically make the same expression of that intent in English. That's why instead, it's giving him the, _"What is it with these damn birds?!"_ which matches how you'd normally expect someone to express that - but especially Barret's character and how he communicates in English. Counterintuitively, being very consistent with that approach for everything a character does can often result in a more accurate delivery of the intent and meaning of what they say than going for creating a close-as-possible literal translation.

Wait... Wasn't Sonon a original character for the dlc though? Like yeah Nero and Weiss are of course in Dirge of Cerberus, but not Sonon if I recall right.
@@AmekiClips sonon is indeed a new character with no known futur in ff7 other games
@@Rpgotoko Yeah, like I thought. winter suddenly made me doubt myself.
@@AmekiClips The remake is tying previous games (and movies + animated specials) into itself. Also the guy who killed Yuffie's team-mate, if i recall correctly.. one of the lost numbers didn't have a body (or stable body) of their own. She also had a role (mainly semi support) in dirge.
Don't forget, the three sentinels cloud & co. fought while facing off against "destiny/fate" the gigantic kingdom-hearts-like whisper.. Were the three brothers cloud fought in advent children. Same fighting style to.
In FF7R ending, Subaru said something about Cloud’s expression, and here she says “did Cloud have this kind of face?” Is she seeing something I’m not?
The first time I saw the ending of Remake and DLC, I also thought Cloud's face looked different. To me it looks like "The Cloud", if you know what I mean. I guess Subaru noticed the same thing. But in the van he still sits like a certain other character, so I am not sure...
10:00 I dont understand why she removed it
Maybe she isn't allowed to show or maybe because of the message popping up she thought she had to remove it. Who knows.
zack wont back :"(
or maybe they will change the story ?
They already changed the story. They wouldn't show the thing with Zack unless they are planning to use him. We're bound to play him be it in the main game or a dlc.
13:12 So what is this a reference to then? I looked at both the comments and the vid description but found nothing about this part.
Ah sorry! I forgot to add it. I'll do it now!
Ok, I added it in the pinned comment if you want to check now.
@@AmekiClips Thanks.😄
.... Zack alive... not canon
