This video solved my problem. I have LG Home cinema system and with a 3.5 Jack cable output, at the other end RCA was not good. I bought optical audio cable and finish. Thank you! :-)
Good video, I was hooking up an existing Samsung sound bar to a new LG 65UQ80. After hours and calls to LG support. Here is what worked. Go to the universal remote area, it brings up many soundbar options. To get there hit settings button, go down to all and wait while it thinks, then general, devices. external, universal control settings, finally optical.
@@aju3234 If you get to the optical part of the menu, you get to select the soundbar. Painful, several reps did not know how, finally got one that did. Closed captioning is a pain also, should be much easier to toggle on and off. This LG locks up on streaming unlike the other ones we have. To fix you have to unplug the TV. We have a google mesh 3 feed away.
Thanks for the clarification, just got an LG C1, and it has that multidirectional port, never seen that before, always seen the port with the door, so I thought the spec changed or something, cheers
I bought an LG C1 hooked up my home theater with optical cable sound do come up but I can't control the volume with the remote ,before this TV I could with the CEC

I think you have to turn on the LG Sound Sync. The the optical out will work. But i think you cant control the volume with the lg magic remote. Hope that will help you.
Can the Magic remote control the Optical soundbar volume? Your video shows you using a separate remote. I can only get the Magic remote to control the soundbar when it's in Bluetooth mode, but Optical sounds so much better. I also only get SoundSync to work with Bluetooth mode. In "Optical + Internal TV Speaker" mode the remote only controls the internal speakers.
I was able to get this working by going to Settings -> General -> Devices -> External devices -> Universal Control Settings and configuring the universal remote for my optical input device

I wish it could be that easy... Optical doesn't work when your running an hdmi to the tv from a Yamaha sound system, or any hdmi connection from comcast/att no matter what connection adjustment with optical, but will work strictly through the tv apps but not when comcast/cable is hooked up via hdmi, funny I just replaced this tv with another lg and no problem with the same exact hookup, but now we've gone a step backwards with technology again when it comes to output sources like headphones and soundbars....

I have a 10 year old Vizio 5.1 sound bar. I just got a new LG B2 OLED and I cannot get my soundbar to function with this TV with the Optic cable. There is no HDMI input on the soundbar. Is the soundbar just too old?
Thanks for the video. Wanting to take the next step - am attempting to have my ‘new’ LG Magic remote power on and off and select volume for an attached Samsung HWH450/XY soundbar. The soundbar is attached to the LG A1 TV via optical cable. I have followed the on screen instructions for setting up my LG remote as a universal remote (by selection of the correct Samsung model soundbar) and have successfully been able to control the soundbar volume from the LG remote but have been unable to get the LG remote to power on and off the soundbar. Wonder if you have any experience with this?
To power on/off the soundbar, use the "More Actions" button on the remote with three dots "..." - it's located below the number "9" towards the top of the remote. This will display "Sound Bar" with the word Power under it. Click on the word Power and you're good to go. My question is how were you able to control the Optical soundbar volume with your remote? I can only get the remote to control the soundbar in Bluetooth mode. I also only get SoundSynch to work with Bluetooth mode. Any input is very much appreciated.

(Thanks to you) I don’t know the explanation for why yours wouldn’t work. The volume has been working okay since I got the tv just not the power issue
You need 2 remotes!?!?!? WTFF ! You can’t control the sound bar volume from the TV remote!!!!! Who designs this garbage!?!? I don’t use a worthless sound bar. I have an SAE analog audio rack. So I have to first convert the optical to analog. Then I have to get up and use a volume knob every time I want to adjust the volume.

I think you have to turn on the LG Sound Sync. The the optical out will work. But i think you cant control the volume with the lg magic remote. Hope that will help you.
is the dolby atmos or X works on optical cable? i want to use the optical + tv sound (q7 00a) instead of HDMI using LG B1
