Although they had the event in Beijing, the company is actually based in Shenzhen. Make sure you won't go to the wrong city when you execute the steal LoL.
I truly love your video. Not only you talk but you actually show the pros and cons. SO many youtubers keep talking about some technical specifications what half the people do not even understand, yet you never see why something is important. Thank you, I was smiling half the videos of you proving something (for example stabilization)
I am watching you from India, you all 360 videos helped me to choose right 360 camera for my channel.. you are doing the good and learnt alot from you. Thanks

I just watched this video on 3rd December 2021 having bought the 360 Max in November after a bit of searching around the net. I don't think any of the Cons would have put me off 2 years ago, and they certainly do not today! The post-recording ability to Reframe is awesome and Horizon Levelling also. As 360 cameras go this one is still right up there with the competition, perhaps not with the 1080p but I can forgive it for that. The hardware, the software and the apps ... a nice little ecosystem right there.
I just got the GoPro Max for my birthday and doing some research about it since it is my first time owning/using one. This video is pretty helpful and informative. Thank you!
It seems that it falls short in photo and timelapse mode, I'll wait for Gopro to fix those before I get the Max. Additional underwater case is also on the list. Great review Ben, thanks
I just bought one for my skateboarding videos. My channel is very unpolished, but I feel this camera will add another level to it. I have only uploaded 1 video with a few clips from it the first week but I am already filming with it more than my cannon M50. This is the first time I have upgraded my GoPro since the Hero 5.
My GoPro Max just arrived yesterday and I took it out to a shoot immediately. Already in love and definitely think the pros outweigh the cons. I suspect a firmware update will bring raw photos to the max since I saw on GoPro's support page that max can take raw photos. I'm assuming the article is early in front of the software update. Here's to hoping!
Just gone one (second-hand) to film myself skating. The lens protectors seemed like a nice way to protect the camera, but I've found the stitching takes such a hit when they're on as to make the footage unusable. Didn't hear anyone mention this about the Max until I started googling this specific issue. Oh well, guess I'll just have to risk it and be careful without those on - that's also the reason I didn't want to splurge on a brand new 360 cam in the first place.
I got 360 photos with my Dji spark and I like how you can view them in google photos on my iPhone and can use the gyroscope to look around it’s so sweet. I have a go pro 7 black and I’m happy with it
Nice review....straight to the main points....I've just purchased one but not done much with it yet...so early days....thanks for the video Ben....Cheers 🍺.
Do you still use this camera, or has the Q8K taken over? I'm about to buy my first 360 camera and I can get the 360 Max for $400 through GoPros subscription deal. I REALLY like the camera replacement policy and this alone almost makes it worth it for me. I'd use it 100% for creating 360 videos for OC2. I carry DSLR's for stills.
I had a problem with the fx reframe plug in and it was a conflict with the insta360 plugin - once I deleted that it worked fine. Suggestion on one of Hugh Hou’s videos.
Does the GoPro software for Mac/PC still have the 60second for each clip limit? I can't find any answer online, and this is the reason I'm hesitating to get the MAX.
nice review so thanks. The Max has some great selling points. We find the image quality of the output 360 footage to be somewhat disappointing when using it with our H7B; and especially compared with today's Insta360 cameras. Hopefully GoPro can find a solution to improving image quality. Thanks again for this review.
Good review, with the exception of the clear protective covers. I live in a sunny climate (Las Vegas) and when the sun hits a cover, glare and specks abound even after ensuring they’re clean. So I’m living dangerously and shooting without the clear covers
Thank you Ben for the highly detailed video! On the rocks on whether the get the Max or simply wait and see if some of the cons you mentioned will be addressed with a new version of it. My plan is to use it for scuba diving and that seamed stitching from your fountain test made my eyes burn! Keep up the good work!!! Greetings from Malta. 🇲🇹☀
How long will this camera continually shoot if connected to an external battery? (Will it shut off automatically/overheat protection or run through the battery? Trying to get 4-5 hours of continual recording...)
Hmmm.. I seen another video saying that this camera stitches the video inside the camera. I have the original Fusion myself. You didn't mention the in-camera stitching. This would make the workflow much better. I'll stick to my GoPro Fusion however.
This Is How We Bingham the old Fusion extendable tripod/selfie stick obviously works perfectly too. BUT the GoPro El Grande mount shows up in the video so it's not great.
Now not really with the Protune option being taken down from the app. I own one and I’m so disappointed with this move. It was so convenient (and I did use it for virtual tours) and now I’ll have to find other options, maybe even switch to a different camera. It’s been 2 months since they rolled this update out and I don’t think they’re ever changing their mind.
Great vid mate, but I'm not sure if you mentioned one touch recording like most GoPro camera's. The new Insta 360 one r takes a while to get going? Thoughts?
Thanks for the review, Ben - helped me to decide!! Just curious, what camera and mic did you use for the parts of your video taken in the room?? They're awesome.
Just waiting for you to get a hold of the Kandao 8K!.. I think this is the one I've been waiting for to upgrade. The only thing that worries me is the non removable battery but with charge while filming and a suitably large external battery pack I think it will be okay. I like where gopro is going, but it's not what I want, I have 5 other gopros for that stuff.
May I ask how you go about exporting and editting? I've just gotten a GoPro Max. My latest upload was done by stitching together the video in the GoPro App, exporting it to my laptop, editing the video and sound on either iMovie or PInnacle Studio, and then running it through Spatial Media Metadata Injector. When I upload to UA-cam, to say the qualiy is lacking is an understatement. Watching your video here, the video is definitely HD and beautiful. Please help. Where am I going wrong?
Since when the bubbles in front of the lenses will not affect your recording? Since you have sun straight to the lenses you will have reflections because of the bubbles aren't Anti-reflective.
Another great video Ben 👏🏻I was watching this in 720 and when you were walking past the flowers doing a tiny planet, the flowers looked pixelated and messy. It’s probably because of UA-cam’s video compression but it was surprising. The problem was fixed on 1080
Hi Ben. I am a fusion user and Iam an estate agent. Can you please give me an idea about the best wide angle camera. I am still using my samsung gear for 180 photos. I am thinking about getting a max to improve my wide photos. As you know its very important to use wide photos for real estate. Do you thing max would save my life with its 180 regular gopro mode. Thank you for this lovely rewivew.
Hello, great Channel! I haven't really been able to figure out how to make this camera stay still when doing 360 footage. Like it has an auto feature where it starts to rotate without telling, both in 360 footage and 360 timelapse. It's really bad. I use Davinci Resolve for edit the footage... there is no way to fix this and also in the Gopro App... therefore, it becomes extremely difficult and demanding to erase the Nadir and other things... Insta360 is the way.
I have a question may sound stupid, I just started looking at 360 cameras. Do they do a looping mode like the Hero cameras? Great pro and con clip thanks for the information!
Love the review. How much of this stuff could change with a firmware update? And do you think Gopro will update the firmware to change some of these cons.
Let's hope they don't repeat the 'orphan' status they gave to the Fusion. The desktop software was updated once , still crashed , premiere pro plugins worked then didn't (sound familiar?) . New Player is not backwards compatible with the Fusion. Max looks like the beta version of the fusion, but isn't
great video.. I subscribed.. I tried the clear plastic lens covers at night, and it totally ruined my shots.. there was lots of glare, reflections and distortions.. Not good.. I like the camera.. lots of great stuff.. The one big down side for me is the lack of Slow Motion...
Could you faux-upscale the gopro 1080p footage up to 4k? I do that for gameplay videos I post to youtube, so the compression doesn't murder them. My biggest hold up from getting the Max is my bad experience with GoPro's software. Not impressed with Quik, especially for Desktop where it is basically unusable. That said, it seems to the best 360 camera, excepting the Insta360 2, which requires authentication so no thanks.
I wonder if they could just have firmware that can detect when the camera is underwater and apply a different stitching algorithm to the footage when the lenses are being affected by being surrounded by water. I'm guessing the Max has no in-built barometer so any "underwater mode" would need to be manually switchable, but in future models this could most likely be detected automatically.
@@BenClaremont Where the preview screen is significantly brighter around the edges when viewed in a dark room or at night... Sometimes it can be visible in daylight too depending on the severity of the problem.
Pretty good video thank you. It is disappointing that gopro still uses same cpu and gpu they need to upgrade it already. And I would like front and back screen on gopro max 360 along with at least 4k capabilities. Someone said new version will be out probably Q2 of 2021 is this true?

another great video! Please, you can buy with the insta360 one x?. I want to know if the image quality is better or worse. I don't think sound is the most important thing because it's best to record with an external recorder to get the best possible sound quality
Hi. Did you find out how to record 6 mic sorround sound? With any settings i get only stereo sound. Fusion is not problematic about sorround sound. Great to listen on headset and spin around 360 vr video. Especialy on misic event like concerts.
Thanks a lot for all the video Ben, this is the most important source of information for me! I had a question. I currently have the GoPro fusion and I really need to upgrade to fasten the workflow and rendering. I only do video reframing content and I do like to edit in premiere to have full possibilities. I'm now basically wondering if I should upgrade to the GoPro max or the I Insta360 One X or the 360 one r. What would you recommend for fast video workflow on desktop with many reframing possibilities? I'm also up for phone editing, but I want to make sure I could easily edit with footage from other videos in premiere or do different export for 360 viewing in headsets as collateral. Thanks a lot!! Ben
Hello, I just got my GOPRO Max,when i want to download videos to my phone via gopro quick app it comes to download on 1% and frezees, doesnt want to finish download? I have memory on my phone so what is it problem? Any help how to fix it? Thanx
Hi Ben ... Great video 👍 Is the 400 gb sd card is causing or will cause a problem with the max ..?? If i get one and record on it like family and travel 360 video till it is full ... would it be a problem ..???
Do you think the current design will lead way to a possibility of ND Filter for the MAX? Or is it impossible to make spherical Filters? I can see it not being possible with Polarizing. But I see no reason with ND. I would buy them.
One year in and I’m just now considering getting the GoPro Max. I’m not really into the crazy globe effect. What I’d really like to see are footages of store facades along the street, for example, when you walk past by them using the Max. This can’t be achieved by non-360 cameras… so it would be interesting to see. And how the footage will look like when reframed or being edited. I mean… can they look linear/ as straight as a building w/out the crazy fisheye/ 360 effect? Hope you can respond to this. Thanks for this great vid, Ben, cheers!
Hey Ben, An advice here? I currently have the Xiaomi Mi Sphere which has been a gret camera overall. I am currently looking for a camera that can be used at snorkelling and cruising. I will mainly use it for photos, so video is not that important to me. Should i go for the goPro Max or insta360? Your last advice with the Xiaomi was spot on. Hope it will be again:)
Hi, Ben... Thanks for your evaluation about GoPro Max - I agree that MAX could be better, maybe with 8K videos, buuuut... would this format feasible for us actually???... I also became curious about your comments, in general... Could I conclude it would be better to buy the FUSION instead the MAX camera?...
Love this video! Trying to figure out what I want my second 360 camera to be as my first was pretty cheap. Two quick questions/comments. I looked at GoPro and it says the editing software is currently in development for PC. Only the Exporter is available for PC and the Player to reframe is on the Mac. Is it out in countries other than the US for PC, or was that miss spoken? If so, I could change my location settings to get it and use it with my current camera. Second, the current 360 camera I have has a screen on it to preview, so the Max is not the first. The Acer Holo360 runs android and has a good size screen and I love it. It seems to be a camera that never caught on, but for $50 it was a good first step into the 360 world. You are correct, the screen seems at first to be a small convince thing, but you quickly find you love it. I have been looking at a Insta360 One X, but I love the screen on my camera and now the Max seems like a great option. Again thanks for the video. I look forward to the video comparing the Max and Insta360.
Why does it default to Hero mode right out of the box!!! Mine arrived in the mail with barely enough time to top up the batteries let alone look at the settings before heading out on a camping trip. Luckily I had it pointed the right way to get my kids reactions before having time to play around with the settings and set it to 360.
Hey Ben, you're not alone on the plugin problem. I was exporting VR ticked Premiere files and doing my workflow in insta360 studio then re-exporting to get around it. Glad there's now Gopro native video editing, but is it compatible with the fusion?
I’m just wondering? From what you said this would be a great camera for someone like me who vlogs all the time, And maybe records 360 video every so often!
p.s. Kandao Qoocam 8K has just been announced.. will get my hands on it ASAP. And if i can't, i'll fly to Beijing and steal one.

so would a gen 7 ipad handle doing the reframing?
Big fan, can you please review the panono 360 camera with work flow explanation, thanks
Thanks! Although I’m pretty sure Panono have gone bankrupt so it wouldn’t be wise for me to send people their way..
Great Vid. Does it record GPS and speed? Cannot find this info anywhere. Thanks.
Thanks! GPS yes, speed no (at least I think not)
Hi. Did you find out how to record 6 mic sorround sound? With any settings i get only stereo sound. Fusion is not problematic about sorround sound. Great to listen on headset and spin around 360 vr video. Especialy on misic event like concerts.
Can you suggest a 360 camera to be used as a dash/moto drive/ride camera.
This one
Ben
Hey- to be honest I’d probably choose the R. Will release a comparison of those cameras in the next 48 hours :)
@@BenClaremont Ok great thanks a lot!! And awesome for the comparison video, looking forward to see it!

Any help how to fix it?
Thanx
Hi Ben ... Great video 👍
Is the 400 gb sd card is causing or will cause a problem with the max ..??
If i get one and record on it like family and travel 360 video till it is full ... would it be a problem ..???
It’s hard to say.. I haven’t had issue with it yet, but since it’s not on the recommended card list, you may not choose to take that risk.
Where can I download the go pro max app for PC? Doesnt seem to be available on their website?
Great review! I am waiting for the Kandao. First message yeay!!
Thanks- me too!
Do you think the current design will lead way to a possibility of ND Filter for the MAX? Or is it impossible to make spherical Filters? I can see it not being possible with Polarizing. But I see no reason with ND. I would buy them.
Yeah definitely possible.. although it’s probably not a priority for them as the camera handles outdoor environments pretty well already
Ben Claremont but the after market companies might. This could help with blown out areas.
In the mall pics and in some of the videosamples there was a very bright and big blue/purple lensflare. Did you noticed this often with the Max?
Not often but I did notice it.. also there was a massive blue spot in the photo sample from this location too. Weird.
Hey Ben,
An advice here?
I currently have the Xiaomi Mi Sphere which has been a gret camera overall.
I am currently looking for a camera that can be used at snorkelling and cruising.
I will mainly use it for photos, so video is not that important to me.
Should i go for the goPro Max or insta360?
Your last advice with the Xiaomi was spot on.
Hope it will be again:)
Hmm.. well Max and One X are video focused cameras. I’d wait for the new Kandao camera :)
So far I like it. Using it on the Motorcycle is less worrisome being its water resistance. But I have not really put it thru its paces yet.
Looking forward to your results 👍
I'm the same way , no foreplay I dive right inn for a swim
Good to know- to be honest I haven’t used my Fusion in around a year.. will have to test soon 👍
Go Pro has updated the firmware it now does 360 time-lapse photo and video
I’m just wondering? From what you said this would be a great camera for someone like me who vlogs all the time,
And maybe records 360 video every so often!
