great video, i never used the polymorph trick, so im gonna try it :) a few other tips; 1, some of the mentioned locations could have caster/ranged mobs, if you get 1 or 2, that can screw up the whole pull and lead to a wipe, so pay attention to that 2, when using ice block, you can create a macro to cancel ice block, cast frost nova and blink out 3, if you worry about running out of mana, you can use mage armor for 30% mana regen while casting - great way to maintain mana or fish for clearcasting with rank 1 blizzards, also since every rank of mage armor gives 30% mana regen, you could swap during the blizz phase to rank 1, and still wont lose too much mana on it 4, always make sure you have a mana gem that is off cooldown 5, there are some places where the dumb mob pathing could be a huge advantage - such as in hillsbrad foothills, they dont jump the fences, they go around it 6, great way to pull bit far off mobs is with rank1 fire blast, rank1 fire/frost bolt for mana and quicker cast time, or counterspell them 7, frost nova is not your main source of damage - i only trained rank 1 frost nova, because that does the job just as well as higher ranks, with a lot less mana cost 8, when doing pull on a mount, make sure to jump when close to a mob, and during the jump turn so you face them, but turn back in direction before landing, because they can daze you from behind and that dismounts you
@@BlublonikGaming cant remember explicitly, i think SoS murlocs have casters among them - also if i recall correctly they start running at relatively more hp than some other mobs do... also plaguelands cauldrons can have casters, i think the spawn location is random for them, so could appear anywhere - what i used to do is pick them out one by one, start on the melee ones, and hope that there wont be a caster spawning next to me, since they are undead and cant be polymorphed, also scarlet hunters are patrolling one of the cauldron and i think those groups have casters and ranged (they are patrolling near the houses, so you can just stay clear of the proximity) didnt watch the video again, so dont remember if feralas yetis are mentioned, but thats a great spot too if not crowded, and badlands beasts, like wolves, tigers and buzzards are fairly tightly packed too (tho watch out for zaricotl, the lvl55 elite buzzard) - you can luck out feralas gnolls too, the lvl 40-42 ones, just avoid the trappers

I just lost my mage was only 14 but liking it a lot better than playign warrior lol. I only died cause i was a dumbass and went in a cave. Are you aoe blizz lvling and hows that going?
@@manofhonor1685 I did a little at the time, and it was working but I got bored at lvl 30 and played other classes instead. Mage is hard in earlier levels but become too powerful later on and if you don't have a disconnect, you're not too greedy and you're good at the game, it becomes boring for how easy and repetitive it is. The moment you have improved blizzard is when you have fun aoe farming for a while, and after that I just lost interest. But it's there and it's powerful for the ones who like it.
I finally got good at this, but the server i'm on, Turtle WoW is just way too busy to make use of it outside of dungeons, and i can't do that for quite some time. I DO NOT recommend trying this until upper 20's lower 30's because you're just not going to know how to react and your kit is weak af. You can totally do this later on an alt at lower level once you master it... but trust me, most people will struggle too much to benefit. I would avoid the camp at 6:42 it's full of casters lol.
Awesome video man, just to point out that the dustwallow marsh spot with the murlocs has changed, the spot showed at 7:49 there is no murlocs there anymore, but instead a half amount of mobs named "risen spirit" also there are 2 running murloc patrollers on the beach now, so clear them first before gathering the pull! Anyways great guide! im following this until i ding 60, currently level 36 at the moment
I use this guide in the TBC extension. Overall, I want to thank you for the detailed guide. But I can't help but express my dissatisfaction as well. At many of the sites this guide led me to, there were mobs with an orange level. They often didn't freeze and ruined everything. Also, it would have been nice to point out the places with mages and archers, which also spoil everything.
Appreciate the comment :) When you AOE then you might often have resists against orange targets yea, which is why it's often better to stay an addition 1-2 levels at the previous place.

Some of the level ranges seem a bit off. For example: you recommend Swamp of Sorrows for 40+ but the murlocs there include level 43 and 44, which regularly resist your novas and blizzards... Seems like this location shouldn't be used till 42 unless you want to deal with all the resists...
im leveling with frostbite, yeah its sometimes inconvinient but then again i can always kite them and regroup them, much better if ur less confident like me and usually go for 3-5 mobs max also u can AE after nova as it has 50% chance to crit, this will decimate enemy hp, since blizzard cant crit.
Nice guide, but I have to point out, that the murlocs in Swamp of Sorrows are RANGED! I wasted a LOT of time running there, just to see that it's unfarmable. At least for me. Might want to add that information to the guide. Thanks the for rest, though!
Straight up, I was worried about this, but if you stick to the southern coast there are no ranged murlocs. And while you wait for them to respawn, you can run into the jungle and farm spiders for extra xp!
so i'm in redridge and somehow i can't fucking do it, I keep getting patrols and there's no where near enough space to grab all of the mobs and blizzard them without running into more mobs.

much better leveling route...at 22, if your alliance, solo level in Stocks until 34(u can do this as horde as well). Then go to SM grave yard until 42. Then go to ZF Zombies until 52. Then go to Sunken temple until 60. All these dungeons have solo videos for mages. Voila! No worries about fighting for mobs or world pvp and u get mad loot and gold! This is what i did and got to level 60 in 4 days played.
you get more gold when you AOE farm, than questing :) You can for sure do quests/dungeons, also if the locations is crowded. Mount in season of mastery is reduced to 50g, so you should be able to instant buy at 40 :)

I did this grind in Classic, don’t think I picked up a single quest after I hit 20 and rocked of the Eagle green gear all the way to 60 - and I’m about to do it all over again only has Horde this time 😉 Appreciate the refresher on locations, but will this still be the fastest way to level even with quest XP bump?

I keep running out of mana and have to run off. Since the dungeon aoe nerf even the regular mobs seem to resist now. I can lock down the gnoll campwith frost nova. seems one always is free and they are two to three levels below me.
made my first ever mage in wrath classic a few days ago... was something changed that does not allow me to aoe like in this video? i feel like i can not get far enough from the mobs after freezing them.. and than the blizzard attack slows the mobs a little but by the time they get to me i still got 6 secs or so until i can freeze the mobs again, which they usually kill me in that time.
If you are trying to do this in Season of Mastery then GOOD LUCK!!! All the leveling zones are overcrowded, there will be 5 mages in every spot trying to do this. Not to mention all the ganking from other factions.
Does not work for harpies on horde side (not when you're level 16 at least) EDIT1: IMPOSSIBLE to do harpies at 16. Go there at 18 or you will get frustrated and tempted to delete your character VERY quickly. EDIT2: IMPOSSIBLE to do gnolls southern westfall unless this is an alt character. Be geared up.
Is this stil viable on classic Era servers. I heared that they nerfed many of the dungeon farms, so mobs would come out of slow after 3 sec or something on the season of mastery servers. If true does this also apply to farm xp in the open world?
Doing this is not viable on busy servers. I'm on Turtle WoW and it's just insane. It makes me want to quit to be honest and go back to retail where it's dead, and i can actually farm lol. It's sooooo packed dude. So very, very packed. Every node, every quest, every fishing spot is being fought over.
Hey guys, I'm a total newbie, and I'm trying levelling a mage at lvl 23 right now. I was trying to AOE during some quests, but there's always some caster in the middle of the mobs which screw all up... Any tips on how to deal with them??
Or u can burst the caster then u can make your pull. After that caster will respawn faster than other mele mobs and kill him while mele mobs is dead. So u always will have good group with dead caster.
I often pick up all the quests in the town when I go to a new zone, then I do my AOE'ing and see which of them I get to finish while I'm in the zone :)
I was wondering why this works for you and not for me. Turns out the trick is having three times the int and mana that you'd reasonably have at this level by buying equipment with your pimped out main. could've probably saved a lot of people a lot of time by making a disclaimer for that
playing alliance mage on pvp server - You pull mobs and get instant backstab from UD rogues:) unless you play on PVE server it's awesome tho... just now I had to log out cuz horde would gank me 3v1 with 10 mobs on me
ive died like 30 times trying this, and even groups of 3 im having trouble with, the only difference between us that I see at this level is the gear, I dont have all that eagle stuff, my auction house dont have it and if it did, I prob couldnt afford it

Tailoring and you could also do herbalism for extra gold, as some of the aoe spots has nearby herbs

I don’t know why all the guides say islands. All the islands have ranged you have to stay on the shore

ZF gy pulls 42-52 is a no brainer. So much xp

Dustwallow marsh is NOT a level 34 zone. Mobs are 36 - 37. They will resist your nova frequently, then kill you.

At lvl 42 is Zul Farak still a thing for xp Grind in Season of Mastery ?
It may be too complicated to ask but is there any way to link which quests you do while aoe leveling?
I often pick up all the quests in the town when I go to a new zone, then I do my AOE'ing and see which of them I get to finish while I'm in the zone :)

I was wondering why this works for you and not for me. Turns out the trick is having three times the int and mana that you'd reasonably have at this level by buying equipment with your pimped out main.

Ignore 39-43 Tanaris wastewander farm. It is impossible, bunch of casters and invis mobs.
im not sure man. Been doing it some hours now and at 21, but its going very slow.
I would wait till 22. You can also Pick up quests and aoe. Then you kill less monsters each pull but also get a lot of exp from the quest later on
will this work for WOTLK classic? 1-80?
playing alliance mage on pvp server - You pull mobs and get instant backstab from UD rogues:) unless you play on PVE server it's awesome tho... just now I had to log out cuz horde would gank me 3v1 with 10 mobs on me

ive died like 30 times trying this, and even groups of 3 im having trouble with, the only difference between us that I see at this level is the gear, I dont have all that eagle stuff, my auction house dont have it and if it did, I prob couldnt afford it

It is at very late game for sure but before 50 its kinnda on pair with a good quest route
