  • WEEK 3!
    This week was a tough one. Just as Ed was starting to feel better, and finding comfort in his treatment, he was again reminded that he has cancer. This week, his hair started to fall out… rapidly. This week’s vlog is more emotion and backstory than we have shared yet. It does end happy, and with us moving forward optimistically. But it also shares some of Ed’s thoughts in the moment. They are raw, and they are real. And for many facing cancer treatment and therapy, they aren’t unique. So please join us this week to get some more insight on what it is like to live and fight!
    Atomic Barber Co: atomicbarber.co
    Join Ed as he chronicles the details of his chemotherapy and radiation. He will talk about how he is feeling, fears, nausea, anxiety... We will also discuss details about how to prepare to be immunosuppressed. For those who are interested, this will hopefully help you understand more about the journey. And for those who are on the same path, know you are not alone in your cancer journey.

      Thanks Dawn! This week was particularly hard, so it seemed only natural to grab the camera and share. We are so glad that we did. And I (Jason) am so proud of Ed for being able to share all of this.

    Ed's statement of "I identify as a cancer patient" really hit me - when I know he wants to be more than that ... and he is. He is a husband and a friend, and through these videos he is also a witness and a teacher - but hard to think of that when you are in the middle of what you are going through I am sure. So glad to hear of the story with the barber. First, Ed's haircut looks great! It is nice to have a few moments of pampering and to just have a positive element going on - and also, through an experience like this I am sure it is highlighting who the good lights in your life are and it seems like that barber shop is full of good lights. Will continue praying for you both! Thanks again for sharing all of this

    Ed, I have felt your pain. I understand the "enough is enough". I understand, personally know I could not and would not go thought a second round of treatment. It hurts our loved ones but I struggle every day that my husband is my caregiver too. It's so much. Please know you have much love from Ohio coming your way everyday. You are not there yet, you have more inside of you then you even know ! Love the mohawk!! I follow you on Instagram so I've been looking forward to the AK vlogs.

      Thank you! And that’s why we shared this. It IS the ups and downs. In one moment, it is hopeless. But later, you are reminded what drive you really do have. It’s not easy, but you just keep moving forward! AK... and some other outings... coming soon! 😊

    Kevin and I were just at Nomad Lounge this week and got to talking about the day we met you both; right away you felt like friends to us. 💕 Ed, that haircut is badass. You rock that mohawk! Much love to you both. 💕💕

    Such a powerful vlog. Love the new hairdo! I can totally see how losing your hair would take you by surprise. It's a reminder that you are not well and it's one that shows on the outside of your body. Up until that point, besides the surgery, you look healthy. The cancer was a secret to the outside world who doesnt know you. Your hair betrayed you in a way. Not to mention how scary it is to see more reminders that you arent well. But I love how you were able to turn it around. Thank God you have each other.

    • @TheTravelingHusbands
      @TheTravelingHusbands  4 роки тому +1

      Yes! That’s exactly part of the sentiment. Not that we were ever trying to hide this heath condition, but now we are visibly and actively reminded, especially Ed every time he showers. It’s certainly tough in those moments when you want to forget.

    • @meganquiah2547
      @meganquiah2547 4 роки тому

      The Traveling Husbands right! In no way are you keeping it a secret but we all have moments where we can forget briefly about our struggles in our day. This is just another side effect making periods of normalcy more challenging. I can definitely imagine feeling the way Ed did at first about not thinking I’d be bothered by hair loss and then being shocked and betrayed when it happened. But I also totally get where Jason was coming from being underwhelmed by the news as it was already expected. To you, there’s so much going on in your world that his hair is the least of your problems. I’m so glad you were able to slow your roll for a minute and listen. So beautiful to see the ebb and flow.

    Hope this is the worse that it gets-both physically and emotionally-for you. Ed, you are dealing with a lot of losses. Your hair is not only a loss in and of itself, but a metaphor for all your other losses-the worse must be the ones that are not visible. Thanks for your willingness to share your experiences.

      It definitely makes it easier to deal with when you can share it like this. It’s hard, but this helps to work through it!

    Aww friend. I can hear just how really down you are feeling this week.
    It does get better. You are in the in the middle of the train tunnel but you'll eventually find the light and make it through.
    My hair was down almost to my butt and I shaved my head in late May. It took some seriously adjusting!!! It's now like as long as my thumb and I hatttttte it. But it'll grow again.
    Your hair will grow back one day friend. But hey, your haircut looks great!
    Sending you light love and prayers for peace on your heart. 😘

      Thank you so much for sharing!! It’s kind of weird, because in the moment you know that is all true, but it almost doesn’t matter. That’s the most frustrating part... the internal balance for us. What you know and how you feel sometimes doesn’t line up. And it’s hard to realize that it’s ok to feel that way.
      Thank you for sharing some of your details as well!! 😊

    Can't wait to see the vlog from AK. I can't imagine what you guys are going through. It is a long process but hopefully at the end, things will calm down and be more normal than what it is now. Big bear hugs to the both of you!

    Sending love. Try to think about the positive things in your life and try to think about the things you can be thankful for. Time is our most precious commodity. How much time we have left is unknown. Try to appreciate the time we have!

      So very true. And as cliche as it sounds, we take it for granted until something like this. It is a very strange perspective. But we also do have so much good, even when everything feels terrible. 😊

    Hey guys so glad to see you sharing your every day ups and downs. I don't know if it's been asked already but are there any support groups for patients going through the process? I believe there are also caregiver groups at well. Sending you good vibes. 💗

    • @TheTravelingHusbands
      @TheTravelingHusbands  4 роки тому

      Thank you! There are groups, and we’ve been active in some of them. The hardest part (at least on the caregiving side) is when others are having the same absurd challenges. It confirms that there is a bigger problem. But we are hopeful that all of this will help to shed some light on it. 😊

    Sorry, a couple days late posting as usual lately. Ed, dude you are rocking that Mohawk. I say keep it even when the hair does grow back. They warn you that your hair will fall out but they don't warn you how much it can HURT! It can be very painful as well as ego-damaging. Hang in there. Yes, you're having some pretty dark days. And there will likely be more of them to come - and some may be worse! But there are better days coming. Days when you both will be able to get back to a "normal" lifestyle. Until that happens lean on each other and when that's not enough, lean on US. We may seem like just words on a screen but we've got your back. Bear hugs for both of you. ❤🧡💛💚💙💜

    I think the haircut looks great! But then again that’s literally my haircut LOL.. I wear a high skin fade.. Worked as a full-time paramedic for nine years (Work in IT now) and I just got used to that haircut and I like it, so I just maintained it... The only issue with it is you have to stay on it, so I get it cut once a week... We are currently looking at homes in the Orlando area, as we plan to move there from West Palm Beach next year and barbershops was actually on my agenda, as I have one here I love and have been using for years... I’m gonna look up the place that you mentioned in this video!

    It looks good! I opted to shave my head at the 2 week mark with chemo because it was too traumatic to see it come out in clumps. I rocked the wigs and thankfully it grew back nicely.. just grey and dark instead of my natural auburn. You have a great attitude and will make it through the 6 weeks ( I also did radiation for 4 weeks) Sending you positive healing vibes!! ❤️

      Thank you! That’s exactly what it was... I could sit there and keep watching it all fall out. Or I could take charge, and do with it what I pleased! Clearly, we went with that latter, and it ended up being a fun time at the barber shop. 😊
