Beautiful bottle & distillery. Just like you said, quality casks and slower production produced much better whisky in the 1950-1970's. With today's computers, there's less errors. When I went to Scotland in March 2017, one distillery (I forgot) said it takes 3 people to run it. Actually this 34 yr 1968 for $3k is actually a great price when compared to current releases. I would buy this before what's available today. Happy New Year. Great review.
I am enjoying this with some delicious Samuel Gawith Glengarry Flake tobacco in my pipe, sadly I am not sipping that phenomenal whisky. Bunnahabhain 12 in my dram. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this epic bottling. Ciao from Milano! Buon Anno Nuovo 🪅 S.
Happy new year gentlemen! Haven't tried this beauty in a long time, it's a perfect, old-school, sherried Bunnahabhain! A whisky maker's whisky for sure lol. Confirming it is, indeed, a cask strength :)
Wow so happy to see this review! I received this very same bottle as a gift 8 years ago for my birthday from an ‘Auld acquaintance’ - but haven’t opened it yet. So great to hear about it from you both! One day I will open it - maybe soon! Thanks for all your great reviews and Happy New Year to you both!
Not the biggest Bunna fan but bought this (for £380 which I thought was a lot then!!) as it is my birth year and it is an absolutely stunning dram. Happy new year to both of you and your families and thank you for the amazing content this year.
The sister casks from this 1968 distillation of Bunnahabhain were eventually bottled as Port Askaig 45 year old. It too is cask strength but the angels have had even more share and reduced the abv to 40.8%. Quite superb whisky. Excellent stuff. Deliciously complex.
Cheers gentlemen. Im very interested in the idea of non chill filtered cask strength whiskies being bottled between 40 and 46%. I've seen a few Cadenhead bottlings in this abv range.
Happy New Year guys, all the best for you & your families ! 🥃 I never tried this but heard a lot about it....I have also a 1968, but from Adelphi (at low abv as well), very good but I guess not as legendary as this one I can only imagine...adding this comment before watching the video, will add more comment after ! PS Love your notes (they remind me a bit of mine on Black Bowmore, 1st Release, don't know if you agree, especially that oriental musky floral/perfumy side). I will be curious to try that & Face to Face with my bottle, but alas the Atlantic is between us ! (it is not the kinda whisky I'll send & expect a sample, tbh....too risky to lose...One day maybe, if teleportation is everywhere ! (lol) /Alas I agree with nowadays "standards" change...big debate always (I've talked about that with Serge & Dave, hard to be categoric, but I believe there is an advantage given to the past (especially 1960-1990, or maybe just 1960-1975, hard to say). That said, there is hope with some really promising bottlings from new distilleries around the world, which gives us a bit of hope...I'd love to debate about all these questions some day with you, btw...Cheers !
Happy new year Greg! Yes the oriental funk part but those bowmore fruits are even more special. Yes as whisky nerds we have to have some hope lol Cheers bud
Wet rocks - what a note. "Delicate as Fuck" is a good one too. Great review gentlemen and I appreciate the note of mould. I think that settles in with the other descriptors. Like all whisky of vintage I find it intriguing to think about the type of person that bought a bottle of this back in the day. It was obviously not on general sale and must have only been available to distillery staff and a handful of retailers. Who drank it and why is there any left today? Seriously, why is there stuff like this left around? Great review as always. Happy New Year lads, WT
Great question but I’m glad there is. Collectors and people who have more than 1 bottle and then prices go crazy so they won’t open it. I can’t complain though. Happy new year WT 🎉
Bunna has many gems but im guilty of gravitating towards the other islay distilleries and neglecting this one. They had a 1973 'The Birthday Dram' 48.5% 40yo that was a pastry fruit bomb banana pie as well. A rather unique style of fruit compared to the islay mango passionfruit monsters.
What a great bottle! All the best in 2023 gents.
Damn you two have great whisky in background would love to try them all 🎉😅🎉
hehe try not to put the best on there

100%
Happy New Year bud! Thank you
If there was ever a bottle I would splurge on, it would be an old Bunna. Cheers! Happy New Years guys!
Not a bad choice at all

Beautiful!! Bunna 12 is one of the best values right now!! Ciao
Good stuff! Reminds me that I have a 1966 35 y/o that I need to open up! Happy New Year to you both.
Yes , should be a beauty as well. Happy new year bud
Happy new years guys. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and reviews on whisky. Wish you good health and a happy 2023. Cheers to the 🐐 🐐
Happy New Year Philippe! Same to you bud
I lost count on how many distillery Bunna's I have acquired, they are all special, although most have never been opened.
Epic! My favorite distillery. Maybe some day I’ll try it 😂
Bunna is doing great things even now 👌

Happy new year bud 🎉. 380 would be nice in todays world lol
I ran to put on a white t before I watched this vid 😂 cheers fellas, happy new year 🥃
Hahaha 👌. Happy new year bud 🎉
Seems like their 60’s sherries were low Abv, so tracks it’s cask strength
Yes but full of flavor 💯

I’ve not had the opportunity to try this one yet. But I’m curious how the malts of Scotland Bunnahabhain 1968 50 year would compare to it.
Have not tried that one

Idk… That *2003 14yr Pedro Ximénez Finish - Limited Release* lot went pretty damn hard!!!

I cant blame you for seeking the mango monsters honestly. The best!!!!
