New heat guns tend to smoke, because they're burning off the oil that's on the metal parts to protect from shipping damage. The "stick" part of a feather is called the quill (the pointy end) and the shaft. Good job on matching the reference pictures! Nothing like a last-minute project.
The way you joke with each other is really cute, and its kind of comforting to see you mess up sometimes and then figure out how to fix the mistakes. I really like this format of video the best.
this might've been the cutest, happiest video you guys have put out. and i've noted it to myself before, but you can really see in this video just how comfortable brit has gotten with being on camera and making things herself. i can't stop smiling. ; v ;
These are great builds and you guys are so fun to watch! Perfect for my daughter and I! Still working our way through your older videos. Glad there are so many to watch!
You guys are the best! The stuff you make is awesome and accessible and it’s great that you show the mistakes instead of editing them out. Thanks for all your great works guys!
An airbrush really does make all the difference, they look so real! It’s awesome!!!they look like they are snatched straight out the game!!!! Great job (as always) !
I was able to use some of these techniques to make my captain crunch hat for my costume this year. 1st time using eva foam a heat gun, but your directions were very thorough. Thank you very informative video!
Can you guys make a video on how to utilize foam cut off pieces? And can the old heat gun be used as skeleton for prop gun or something, instead of just being thrown away?
Great job Brittany! I really felt your personality come through in this video!! It was nice to have a slower pace. I could really get a feel for how to make a prop like this or something else! Keep it up!
Thanks, guys, for these amazing videos. I am just blown away by how fantastic everything looks. You guys are awesome! Keep up the great work! I'm so glad I stumbled across these videos. Love your work!
Very cool! I've never actually worked with foam before, but is something I would like to get into. I know you're channel has so much foam tips... I just haven't tried it yet! :) Britt (and Bill...and the crew), you did a really nice job with the project and the video. It was very entertaining and has a great quality to it. Keep up the amazing work guys!
What fun hats, you two play off each other in such a fun way. It's always fun watching you two work. And on a side note. Was I the only one, that had the thought to get a nerf dart gun. Seeing the target under the hat on the life cast. :)
LOVE THESE!!! wanted to make one for my son but didn't find the pattern on your website. Then saw down below you don't have templates for these. 😫😩 You make it look so easy! love your channel!!!
just a shame they used that crappy image for that shirt. they should have used the Green Ranger Power Coin emblem instead of that cheesy looking dino that is suppose to represent the Dragonzord.
Have you thought about vaccum forming your hat dome then attaching the brim? Less seams to fill. I assume this could work with thinner EVA foams. I assume that is the process that is used with the EVA hats they sell at Michael's
That's a great idea! On our timeline, we needed something fast and our little vacformer isn't quite large enough. But you absolutely can vacform EVA and L200 foam. You can actually form thicker foam with an industrial grade vacformer! - Paige
8:40 Did any one else think of that scene in Pirates of the Caribbean. the one where Jack Sparrow tells Barbossa "I'll get you the hat. A really BIG one." When they first saw how big this was?
Wow! Freaking neat! I have heard that a hot plate works for foam, but I've never tried it. And for large pieces it'd have to be one hell of a hotplate. I know it works for linoleum (old school lino cut printmaking method) but it seems like it would work?
Hmm watching this video I feel like maybe an overhead camera rig for your phone might be a smart idea so you can take those grid mat photos a bit easier
I just realized that my whole comment sounds like a 4th grader bragging to their teacher about the cruddy art project they made when no one else was around. and the teacher is just like "That's nice, sweet heart. Now stop eating the glue."

Really love the more "Adam Savage's one day builds" style of shooting with Brit, it's a nice combination with her calm and easy going way of speaking.
Thank you! We've been having a lot of fun filming projects this way. Expect more in the future. =D

Make a prop blaster out of that dead heatgun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You're welcome!
Can you guys make a video on how to utilize foam cut off pieces? And can the old heat gun be used as skeleton for prop gun or something, instead of just being thrown away?
We kept the old heat gun, not sure what we'll do with it yet, but I like how you think.
Great job Brittany! I really felt your personality come through in this video!! It was nice to have a slower pace. I could really get a feel for how to make a prop like this or something else! Keep it up!

Thanks Jake! =D
Oh wow Britt, those feathers would have been a perfect place to use our 2mm 70° foam!!
But these are perfect for this hat!!!
We'll try that out the next time we make fake feathers. =D
Also really enjoying that Men in Tights reference... 'a little bit more blood, yes..'
Good catch! =D
I enjoyed watching you do that. At first I had my doubts but it turned out looking great.
You make it look soo easy!
Yo you guys rock, thanks for the builds. I really enjoy you guys and what you do. Thanks again. 🤘
Thank YOU! =D
Teach me your ways, mighty Punished Props Academy.

AWESOME! I've been wanting to try that game! always loved making pirate hats as a kid lol
Start in the front and don't mess up. Hah! Awesome advice! 😉 These are so fun! Love 'em!
Awesome! I had always wondered how people made those foam hats
LOVE THESE!!! wanted to make one for my son but didn't find the pattern on your website. Then saw down below you don't have templates for these. 😫😩 You make it look so easy! love your channel!!!

Heck yeah! Have so much fun!
@@punishedprops im also going to make my own patterns for it and everything
Great project and sweet Power Ranger shirt!
just a shame they used that crappy image for that shirt. they should have used the Green Ranger Power Coin emblem instead of that cheesy looking dino that is suppose to represent the Dragonzord.
Cool! I would have liked to see Bill make his too.
I love the ILTMS shirt!
20:20 Robin hood Men in tights.... I got that reference!
They look so good!
Needs fun parrot, snake, or squirrel. Love the hats!
A parrot would be perfect!
I have that exact same blue knife... it’s my favorite knife I’ve ever had.
Looks great

It's morphin' time!

I would love a template for this hat!! I'm not good at freehand designing :/
Please make more Sot items, it's my favorite game.
You're gonna like next week's video.
@@punishedprops cool!
Awesome build, but one question? What kind of foam is it?
EVA foam. We have a link in the description of the video: tntcosplaysupply.com/product/eva-foam-sheets/
Wow! Freaking neat!
I have heard that a hot plate works for foam, but I've never tried it. And for large pieces it'd have to be one hell of a hotplate.

Love seeing the cameraman at 11:18 in the mirror. Mini behind the scenes.
fantastic!
Excellent!
Arrrrrrrrsome hats!
AYE! Thank ye matey. We'd rather be caught dead than roaming the seas in anything less than the best pirate fashion!
- Paige
Do you know if this could be used for the servant’s hat?
Love u guys!!!
Thank you : )
You're welcome!
Hmm watching this video I feel like maybe an overhead camera rig for your phone might be a smart idea so you can take those grid mat photos a bit easier
That's a pretty great idea!
Hi! What’s material you are using? 🙏🏻
We link to all tools and materials in the description below the video
Awesome
I love that she's wearing an ILTMS shirt
Do you guys do custom projects for people????
Thanks for your interest, but Punished Props is not currently taking on any new commission clients. Thank you for your understanding!
What is this cool music, wich plays at the end while the hat-beautyshots?
I tried to shazam it but it didn´t find it.
We get our music from artlist.io
You should make a memorial stone for the old heat gun :D
Awwwwwe...
Due you do tokusatsu cosplay costumes?
We have not.
Me and my brother want to do a Kamen Rider cosplay costume.
Rob and Bob hat models! :)
We only use the most attractive busts for our hat reveals. =)
I heat formed a helmet out of EVA that was a single piece. I used a hard hat as a buck and just heated and then shocked it with cold water
That's fantastic!
I just realized that my whole comment sounds like a 4th grader bragging to their teacher about the cruddy art project they made when no one else was around. and the teacher is just like "That's nice, sweet heart. Now stop eating the glue."
Nice
Would you be able to form this without a heatgun?
Maybe, but it would be rather difficult.
Im waiting for the black panther costume i requested!
I'm sorry, but we aren't planning to build that costume.
