    11:29 - I'm an LA native, I remember this. I believe the 105 freeway was actually not in use yet, it was still being built, or was just recently built, or something like that. So that part of it was accurate. I think they filmed it before it was opened to the public (easier than having to shut it down after the fact).

    This is the movie that started my one sided love affair with keanu reeves. Also, the scene when jack is under the bus and the passengers all ban together to help him shows the good of humanity and how we can all be together and lift each other up without being forced or mandated. I love this movie. It is literally one of my favorites. It came out before i turned 10 and i wasn’t allowed to watch the opening scene but from then on, i was good to go!

      That banding together is a big part of why I love this film and what I feel is missing in most modern day films. This generation focuses so much on division and our differences instead of what we have in common...as you said, our humanity.

  • @jaredmulconry
    @jaredmulconry 3 роки тому +3

    They didn't set up the bus jump scene well. It was probably hard enough to find a free way under construction to get that footage, so I guess they couldn't contrive some kind of ramp.
    The footage of the jump itself was pretty epic, they legit drove a bus at full speed off a ramp and ended up with that. It didn't fly 50ft, since the front got kicked up hard and lost a lot of forward momentum, but it flew pretty good.
    If you can find the behind the scenes of that shot, it's pretty intense seeing the actual bus pull it off.

      @@dutch90skid70 If by "era" you mean 90s, I'd have to give the title of best action movie to Terminator 2. Hong Kong action was also peaking w/ Hard Boiled, Drunken Master 2, Fist of Legend, etc...

    • @dutch90skid70
      @dutch90skid70 3 роки тому +1

      @@jp3813 I didn't say I was talking about 90's or action movies in general. You kind of blew things up here. I was talking about the 90's era where pratical effects still mattered to make great movies. Terminator is nowhere near the level of Speed, Face/Off etc. We're talking about the last succesful era of major action stars like Nic Cage and Bruce Willis (Die Hard). It was Schwarzenegger who drove away from this genre completely. The more scifi, the better... Movies like Speed, Face/Off, Con Air, The Rock etc. were like a genre on it's own. The 'F*ck you Hollywood, we don't need green screens to blow people's mind away' genre. Face/Off taking the lead by far.

    • @jp3813
      @jp3813 3 роки тому +2

      @@dutch90skid70 Blew things up? All we're doing is sharing favorites here, not everything has to be an argument, so just take it easy. All the movies you named are 90s action, so it was a reasonable assumption. I said Terminator 2, not just Terminator. It's sci-fi as well and has fantastic use of practical effects courtesy of the legendary Stan Winston. I rank it the highest b/c it has the most compelling story, great character development, & incredible action sequences (they actually flew a helicopter under a bridge). I'm a huge John Woo fan, hence Face/Off is among my favorites. But Hard Boiled is often considered his magnum opus especially when it comes to showing Hollywood how it's done since it's a Hong Kong film. Speed, Con Air, & The Rock are actually part of a subgenre called "the Die Hard scenario". Where a lone hero has to deal w/ a hostage taker in an isolated setting. Again, this isn't an argument, we're just sharing here.

      Late 80's and 90's were certainly the best, I was at the movie rental shops about every week getting multiple good movies if I wasn't in the cinema. Nowadays it is hard to get 1 good movie a month in cinema. It says a lot when the only movies you look forward to are Marvel movies or Batman movies. Not to undercut their succes, but the other genre's really have become of low quality in my opinion. With only the occational exception. Sad the movie industry has gone to shit.
      I mean think of these movies
      The matrix
      The sixth sense
      The silence of the lambs
      A fish called wanda
      Jurrasic park
      Forrest Gump
      The Green mile
      Shawshank redemption
      seven
      Good will hunting
      The usual suspects
      The fugitive
      ...
      And these are just a few timeless classics with different genres on top of the movies listed above.
      Best movie of 2019 / 2020 that is not marvel or DC. I cannot even think of 1 to be honest, surely a few exist that are good but it is telling it is hard to even remember a few.

    It reminds me, you should watch CELULLAR. One of the best intense (and entertaining with the comedies and all). Also it's one of Chris Evan and Jason Statham early movie.
    (Ofc only if you haven't watch it).

    Killed off Jeff Daniels (Dumb and Dumber), killed but 'unkilled' Alan Rucker (Ferris Beullers Day Off)...because they worried of fans backlash so Alan Rucker survived the jump off the bus in a different take. Sandra's I guess easy breezy look was super hot here than in any other flick!

    The plane the bus ran into and blew up was being towed so there was no crew on board and you can see the tow driver get out so no one was killed there.

    With this movie and with FACE OFF (1997) it is clear that Nolan was not the first to destroy a real plane while filming a movie. In the 90s it was very common to film scenes with real elements, it is very strange at the time with practical effects, today CGI is abused a lot, where everything looks very fake.
