no, its waaaaay different. like, just in general compared to any other computer. try and find the motherboard number, google, and/or contact toshiba. motherboards for like the qosmio x500/505 arent as common, or ever were because its not a very stable board, and, its a nightmare to remove. ALso i think they had the GPU embedded so, that makes them way more expensive.
I hope someone sees this. I have an X70-A. I bought an adapter, R43SG to connect an external video card(eGPU)(GTX970) through the M.2 NVME port.(I assume it is M.2 NVME and not M.2 msata but hard to find out, I wasted money if it is msata only). I pulled everything apart and got access to the M.2 port. Plugged the cable in and ran it out near the headphone ports(had to Dremel the case). Long story short, I thought I connected everything back together that I disconnected, but the laptop does not power on when pressing the power button? Did I disconnect anything related to the power button? I left the LAN ribbon cable ETC connected still just so I could flip the board and plug into the M.2. only removed those 4 ribbon cables and power to the fan I thought. Thanks for the video!
hello there i have a qosmio x70 and for a while now when i start it a ticking sound comes from the speakers with black screen and the laptop wont boot up, i tried replacing the HD and RAMs with no success, do you think it needs a system board replacement?
i had the same problem with this one, when you try turning on just makes a ticking/popping noise from the speaker from being turned on for just a moment then off again. Dont know how but your motherboard is dead.
Hi I Have the toshiba s75 satellite series which is same m4700m processor, and it looks like the board case port design is very similar. I was wondering what do you think about swapping one of these boards into a s75-a7221?

I have a qosmio x70-a that has fried the motherboard. I cant locate a exact serial number of my current motherboard. My question is can i replace it with another motherboard for the qosmio that is different model with a later rev number
Ben Lasseter you gotta pull it out through the chassis from what I can tell in there, I also have tried, the top is one solid piece so, gotta pull out the motherboard and everything to take out the keyboard.
you literally pull everything out of the chasis, its a paradoxical design, everything but the keyboard is serviceable as hell. basically keep removing stuff from the chasis and eventually youll be able to pull out the keyboard, the chasis/shell is 1 solid piece so, keyboard is removed from within.
I have a question, my graphics card was damaged, I would like to change it, what other models of graphics cards would be compatible with the board? How can I know which is the right one? What new graphics cards do you recommend?
you dont really have a lot of choice in the matter, you are generally limited to one of the same MXM format and of the same size as is already in there. to determine what GPUs are supported, you would need to know the motherboards chipset, but that is propriety information of toshiba. So best guess is to look up old motherboard chipsets and see if every mobo that supported nvidia gtx 700 series also supported gtx 800 series, if it turns out that there hasnt been any chipsets that supported only 700 but not 800 it means they were built on the same architecture and thus had no special requirements to use one vs the other. its also possible the chipset of the x70 is literally an x70/x75 chipset, x97z is the chipset in my desktop right now, it seems to be a standard. Theres no real way to know for sure unfortunately, but id say theres a 95% chance that the qosmio could support the gtx800m series if it was more power efficient than the 700m series, if my gpu died i would certainly take the risk.
Is the WiFi on the motherboard or a separate card? The connection on my system seems to drop-out off-and-on (not attributable to my home router), so i was thinking of possibly putting in a better WiFi card. If the card is separate, where is it located? Thanks
i didnt have the wifi card installed at the start of the video but if you look here ua-cam.com/video/uOpFcGLuVdg/v-deo.html youll see it there in the bottom right corner of the access panel area. Also i had the same problem with the factory card too. If you can, see if you can get one with heatsinking, usually they do this sort of thing after overheating
Anyone know how to take the keyboard out on the qosmio x70a? I hope the top cover pops off without taking and screws and the keyboard is directly under but I can't find a video or manual.
keep in mind even when it says 100% it can contain water, you dont want to spill it. the best way is to physically scrape the paste off if its hard, tissue paper or cloth if its still soft. use a cloth/tissue damp with iso to wipe up the remaining stuff, but dont apply or let it spill directly on the block
Thanks for the Video, it helped me when I was replacing my X870 motherboard. I do still have one problem. I have 2 USB ports connected to the board by a ribbon that is not getting power. Do you have any idea if it is more likely that the USB ports got fried when the board got fried, or that the motherboard is bad. Somehow it seems unlikely that the USB ports would get fried while none of the other attached components did. So if it is the board can I fix it or do I have to try and get another from china, ugh.
Is it possible to replace the original SSD with a larger one? I imagine there are complications transferring the data from the original SSD to the new one. Any advice?
yes, it doesnt have to be a 256gb toshiba SSD, you can use a different one. As for transfering data, not too hard. What i would do, and have done but for other drives, is use linux which i run off a usb, to clone the entire partition, bit for bit exactly as is on a vacant drive. Ordinarily though i would just clone the partitions directly, but, no reason you cant clone onto a hard drive then clone from there onto a new SSD once you remove the old one and replace it. Theres probably windows tools for doing this as well but im not sure in windows that cloning is possible from the system itself, and dont forget, you have boot partitions, not just whats in your C drive, so you need a special tool to make a bootable clone or disk image.

no, my wacom 24hd's backlights failed which causes the crappy high voltage leads to leak out excess voltage into the back plate, thus electrifying anything plugged into it. Its not a serious thing but, at the time i didnt know, so, eventually it wrecked my laptop, because of how long the exposure was. specifically it fried a regulator of sorts in the power management section of the motherboard. Luckily, provided you ensure good quality thermal connections with the cpu and gpu to the heatsink, and that your heatsink has no dust, these things will run at their limits for a typical gaming session pretty ok, even when the air is already like 36 degrees celcius to begin with (tropics)
Should've reapplied a new quality thermal compound if you haven't already. Should be much better than factory paste and would help decrease temps much better.
maybe, im not totally sure what makes a card compatible or not, but probably if you can find one of the same form factor, (MXM), it should work. Maybe search to see if the card your concerned about uses the same power or less than the 770M your replacing. contact the manufacturer too, they can be very helpful
Saw an adapter on Linus Tech Tips, EXP GDC BEAST, it might do the trick, the slot is where the SSD Drive goes! Also on the UNDERSIDE when upside down. You would need to pull it right out to attach the cable and loose the SSD Drive!! :(
if you mean the one M.2 looking or mSATA and the two ram sticks on the other side of the motherboard? then no. you have to pull it out to get at those, though its pretty easy to do
@@ronoxengineering Sorry, my mistake. I was fast-forwarding through the video and didn't realize those slots were the keyboard side. BTW, do you still have/use the X70? Has it been a good purchase?
@@pyracurse oh for sure, its the god damn most reliable laptop ive ever owned, the thing is built way bulkier than it needs to be, toshiba really didnt give two shits about profitability, they just made a genuine quality product with this. if toshibas laptop division didnt shut down due to bankrupcy id buy whatever their next show-off piece was, thats what this is btw, its overpriced (compared to others) but really they just use this to show off how good they are/were. Anyway, 2nd hand its really recommended and if you already own one, dont let it go, these things wont be made obsolete for a good long while, everything is clocked higher and runs harder thanks to the massive airspace and airflow inside. if you dual boot linux you can even get a half decent battery life out of it.
I'm only using this video to take apart my Toshiba Qosmio X70 B 102 to see if it has the right GPU Because it was supposed to come with a AMD Radeon R9 M265X GPU but for some reason the laptop is using the dedicated GPU which is intel hd 4600 After reading countless forums about it , trying everything I could. I decided to check if the amd gpu is actually there... Edit: Looks like the guy sold it without the GPU inside
intel HD4600 is inside the CPU package, its standard now for the intel HD graphics to be responsible for the basic display operations, and only to rely on the GPU when its actually required, like when gaming. My understanding is that its far more efficient for the intel HD graphics to do light GPU work than it would be for the main GPU
the white cabe near the fan? antenna the white wire in the fan connector? speed sensing. see the way all brushless fans work is based on sensor input, they actually have to switch on/off at specific times internally to make sure they spin around, they use things called hall effect sensors, to detect the position of the rotor, this is why they dont need mechanical switching like a brushed motor does. Anyway, sometimes a digital switch is attached to one of the hall effect sensors, a hall effect sensor is a magnet switch, if a magnet goes near it, it turns on, that simple. that wire can therefore be read to read the RPM of the fan for speed control purposes. that way the computer can control the speed but also know precisely what speed the fan is at.
although uncommon, so long as the form factor is correct you should be able to put in new video cards, though i would stick with nvidia. Theres no guarantee it would work, but the odds are in your favor, ive never seen a system that came with a 700 series which couldnt take 900, and a system capable of 900s that couldnt do 1000s (e.g 1080) But it MUST be the correct form factor, which should be MXM

i have seen 870 speakers removed and sold by themselves for sale on ebay so i would say so yes. there is a way to remove them
Should've reapplied a new quality thermal compound if you haven't already. Should be much better than factory paste and would help decrease temps much better.
of course, thats day one stuff, goes without saying.
I did add plenty of quality paste.
Is there any way to upgrade the video card to like a 9genertaion
maybe, im not totally sure what makes a card compatible or not, but probably if you can find one of the same form factor, (MXM), it should work.
You should do a review or tutorial video specifically for the Qosmio if you ever decide to try it!
10:55 Could you have not put in the RAM sticks and SSD after you have re-assembled the whole computer?
if you mean the one M.2 looking or mSATA and the two ram sticks on the other side of the motherboard? then no. you have to pull it out to get at those, though its pretty easy to do
@@ronoxengineering Sorry, my mistake.
I'm only using this video to take apart my Toshiba Qosmio X70 B 102 to see if it has the right GPU
Because it was supposed to come with a AMD Radeon R9 M265X GPU but for some reason the laptop is using the dedicated GPU which is intel hd 4600
After reading countless forums about it , trying everything I could.
I decided to check if the amd gpu is actually there...
Edit:
Looks like the guy sold it without the GPU inside
intel HD4600 is inside the CPU package, its standard now for the intel HD graphics to be responsible for the basic display operations, and only to rely on the GPU when its actually required, like when gaming. My understanding is that its far more efficient for the intel HD graphics to do light GPU work than it would be for the main GPU
so can anyboby tell me what function does the white connector in line whit the one for powering the fan
the white cabe near the fan? antenna
the white wire in the fan connector? speed sensing. see the way all brushless fans work is based on sensor input, they actually have to switch on/off at specific times internally to make sure they spin around, they use things called hall effect sensors, to detect the position of the rotor, this is why they dont need mechanical switching like a brushed motor does.

Qosmio x70 a 13n video card can be changed ?
although uncommon, so long as the form factor is correct you should be able to put in new video cards, though i would stick with nvidia. Theres no guarantee it would work, but the odds are in your favor, ive never seen a system that came with a 700 series which couldnt take 900, and a system capable of 900s that couldnt do 1000s (e.g 1080)
But it MUST be the correct form factor, which should be MXM
thank you very much for your information
I would worry about any extra HEAT, as Heat is a real issue in the X70-A when GAMING on the 770M, I have a Cool Pad under mine and I still would worry about the heat!! You can't Game on your lap it would give you burns!!
why did you clip the crocodile ?
its connected to an anti-static wristband
i have this same laptop and i have no idea that this laptop support SSD M.2 !!
neither did i originally
Same thing!!
