  • A Retrofit Story: Using LUNA’s LIOS. EN.SURE systems to understand the underground circuits for Utilities’ engineering and operators. By utilizing existing Telecomm Fiber-optic networks and LIOS’ State-of the Art Real-Time Thermal Rating (RTTR) solution.
Grid Resilience: Using Fiber Optic Networks for Understanding Underground Electric Grid in Congested Distribution Systems presented by LIOS Technology, a Luna Company.
In major cities, there are various distribution networks: pipelines (Steam, water, gas, etc.), and electrical circuits (power cables). These networks are installed underground either within duct banks or directly buried. Such congestion could affect the designed operation parameters of the electric grid necessary to power smart and metropolitan cities (stadiums, data centers, etc.). A simple and elegant approach is to rely of the existing fiber-optic cables used for telecom along those networks to properly assess the conditions and tweak the operations of the grid to reduce failures and increase the electric grid reliability. Hence we introduce LUNA’s LIOS EN.SURE DxS solution to add value to the operators. With the solution provided by LIOS, the goal is not to focus on the DTS but using LIOS’ state-of-the-art Real-Time Thermal Rating (RTTR) software to properly help engineers and operators increase the efficiency of their circuits dynamically and in real-time. Presented by Julio Toko, Sales Director, LUNA - LIOS Sensing, and Yulia Trostyanskaya, Product Manager, LUNA Sensing.
Julio Toko has been with LIOS Technology since 2014. He graduated from UC Davis with a degree in Optical Engineering with emphasis on Fiber-Optic telecommunication and Sensing. He has more than fifteen (15) years of experience in quasi / distributed Fiber-optic Sensing for acoustic, seismic, temperature and strain monitoring.
Yulia Trostyanskaya, is the product manager for LIOS Technology since the beginning of 2022. She holds a master’s degree in physics with focus on nanoelectronics from Jacobs University Bremen and has over 6 years of experience in engineering, process optimization and product management of sensing devices used in industrial applications, large machinery and civil infrastructures.
