Tony Orlando and Dawn owned the early/mid 1970s ( 1970 -- 1976) from Candida to Cupid.... one of the best singing groups of all time in true real music history.
MY SON WAS 5 YEARS OLD GROWING UP WATCHING LISTENING TO TONY ORLANDO & DAWN WITH ME SO YOUNG HE HAD TO HAVE TONY ORLANDO HAIR STYLE, WE ALWAYS TAKE HIM TO THIS HAIR STYLIST NAME EDDIE & HE LAUGHED CUTTING HIS HAIR & STYLING IT LIKE TONY ORLANDO, HE GRADUATED & HE STILL HAD HIS HAIR TONY ORLANDO HAIR STYLE, ONE OF MY BEST MEMORIES WITH MY SON SO LITTLE LOVING TONY ORLANDO HAIR STYLE 😊 REST IN PEACE MIJO OUR MEMORIES FOREVER ❤
I visited the Tony Orlando and Dawn show that year. My first vacation from radio. One of my prized possessions is a yellow ribbon draped over one of the TV cameras at the show. I gave it to my mother who was dying of cancer from that time. I still have the yellow ribbon. I hope to have Tony autograph it some day.
Fun Fact: It was Faye Dunaway and Peter Wolf who suggested this song to Tony Orlando at some award ceremony. I am glad that Tony listened to their advice!
A #1 hit for Tony Orlando & Dawn in May 1975. It also hit #1 on the Adult Contemporary charts and the Cash Box charts. It hit #3 on the Canadian AC charts, #4 in Canada, #28 in New Zealand, and #33 in Australia. I saw them in March 1976 at the Carolina Coliseum in Columbia, SC. It was also #1 when the high school Classes of 1975 were preparing to graduate. That brings me to the TV Movie, "Archie: To Riverdale and Back," where the gang was having their 15 year Reunion. As all of us, they were dealing with real life issues. This hit would have been perfect for Betty, who was involved in a relationship with a man that treated her like dirt.

I wish somebody would ask Joyce Vincent why she never seems to be enjoying the music while she was singing back then --- even in the photos, she doesn't seem to be there! #inquiringmindswannaknow
She was more low key (personality wise) compared to Thelma. Sometimes she'd sing back up with her sister (when Thelma had Tv obligations) and her sister was also more upbeat than her.
I agree, Joyce always seemed to be a bit removed. Maybe she's shy. Many folks don't know that years later Joyce Vincent went on to become a member of the fabulous Supremes (and still is).
It feels like yesterday, almost 50 years ago
👍

That's crazy and Telma Hopkins went to do Family Matters in the future
"Gimme a Break" was first. She had an impressive career.
