Fascinating wooden “bells”. I found the sound track to the video to be too loud and distracting. I would have liked to have heard the wooden instruments more.
Same here. I thought that they all must sound different. And then the ones that were burnt, were they duds or what? Lastly, while this is cool and takes incredible skill and effort, I used to make the same sounds with plastic cups. Sorry for the rambling.

我看過那麼多木工藝製作的影片，這是唯一讓我看到害怕的，師傅的手還要嗎！
操作時離的很近這倒也還好，重點是居然戴著尼龍質的手套，任何有機械操作基礎的人都知道會轉動或切割的機具是絕對不能戴手套的，而且師傅還不是說偶爾操作一下而已。大型帶鋸機、鑽床、車床、研磨機、砂帶機...每一個都是不能帶手套的，他幾乎做了完美的錯誤示範

Wooden fish or bell for buddhist ritual.
With aging, old n completely dried woodfish will make better sound, ... the ones here seems fresh, 'wet' sound!
Anyhow, they are just accessories to facilitate cadence in group rythmic chanting.
Alone, it could be used for concentration or meditation on emptiness of sound etc
I bet they get better with age.
These remind me of the bell weights some people use...actually could it be the other way around now? Those weights are reminiscent of these wooden bells?!?

The wooden musical instruments are pretty, but the background music for the first two minutessounds like somone going to war. Maybe nature sounds or relaxing music is better than triumphant war like aggressive music.

I would guess it is a company secret. I would dare to guess it has shellac as the basic ingridient
I enjoyed watching this process, but it left me with more questions. Is there anyplace to go for more information. e.g. Wood species, availability of purchasing finished products, was there water in the first large box that they built the fire under or was it just a type of kiln (couldn't tell if the blanks were isolated or just thrown in). The list of questions goes on.....Also wondered how long the operators had been doing these jobs, as it seemed that measurements, repeatability, etc. were pretty random. Also as previously pointed out, osha or the epa wouldn't tolerate most of the machinery or processes displayed. (Lots of ways to get injured ) long sleeves, gloves can easily get caught in spinning objects, no eye or ear protection, etc.
It's no wonder that in order for the USA to make competitive products (price and quality wise), we have to invest in 5 axis CNC's or just make molded plastic versions.
Wood is usually came from Cherry tree.
You can buy from Coupang, and name of this bell is 목탁(Mok Tak). Copy this words into Coupang search window, and you can find it.
He has experience of 50 years for this bell, Mok Tak, so he does not need to meausre like typical manufactiring.
You can not make this by 5x CNC, because the sound can be made by hand made process.

Somewhere the sound wasn’t right at the end. It should be more hollow and with more pitch.

The audio was fine. Maybe expecting something more like a high-pitched tink tink of claves.
