Dustin’s Hoffman is a brilliant actor and totally owned this role. But can we please give props to Sydney Pollock for his comedic timing in this scene? He was an amazing director but he was really great as an actor in this movie. RIP Sydney.
My favorite scene of the movie... The look of shock & disbelief from Pollack is priceless when he realizes it's actually Hoffman. And the line "Oh God Michael.. I BEGGED you to get therapy!" was brilliant!

The office scene with George "No one will hire you!" is the best in the film. It's a very ironic piece of script as the Sydney Pollack the director got to be able to scream at Dustin Hoffman "You bust everyone else's ass too!"
Sydney Pollack is hysterical in this scene. Hoffman knew how to get Pollack in the direction they needed to go to make this scene hilarious. The two of them never fail to make me laugh. Perfect comedic chemistry.
@@patersonplankrd I believe this was just about the only film of Pollack's that he appeared in. And he would not have had Dustin not hectored him intensely to do so. The perfect date movie. Back in the day I had a first date with someone, so fun. Everyone coming out of the theatre was laughing and you could feel good vibes in the air.
A little fun fact: When Sidney walks in he looks across the room and says, “hey Ronny”. The man (shorter guy) who comes to the table (Character name is Phil Weintraub) his real name was Ron Schwary and he was actually the producer of Tootsie. He produced some great Movies and partnered with Sidney Pollack before (Absence of Malice).

He was also brilliant in Woody Allen's "Husbands And Wives", up against other big-time heavyweights---Judy Davis, Liam Neeson, and Woody Allen himself---as well as with George Clooney in "Michael Clayton".....
Superb performance by Hoffman. In many ways, it’s some of his best work as an actor(I think maybe Lenny comes a close second), especially considering that comedy performances usually don’t get much notice at the Oscars. He and Pollack have superb chemistry. Their scenes together are superb. It’s also probably Pollack’s best film as a director.
In “The making of Tootsie”, Dustin said he “surprised” Sydney in this scene by grabbing his gonads instead of touching him on the leg while he was in character and infuriated Sydney which totally makes the scene. 😂👌🏼
Fantastic movie by the late Sidney Pollock he got a brilliant cast and a great supporting cast as well my dad loved Sidney Pollock in this movie he said to me Sidney Pollock was fantastic as the agent also dabney Coleman was fantastic also very funny script and a beautiful song by Stephen bishop so l give this movie a five star rating 😂😂
The reason Hoffman’s performance was so different from Robin Williams’ in Mrs. Doubtfire is primarily because you always expected the unexpected from Robin because he was first and foremost a comedic actor. What makes this part special is that Dustin Hoffman is the LAST person one would expect to pull off a role as a middle-aged woman. This scene is organic and seamless in its delivery and Pollack’s surprise was so sincere that I can’t imagine anyone else in the role of Hoffman’s agent.
hilarious! perfectly written, acted and directed. Why can't comedies be made like this anymore? (wonders if Seth Rogan will see this and have an answer)
Seth is too busy making Frat movies playing a fat schlub with a hot wife. As soon as Kevin James retires or dies he'll step in and play a fat TV Dad/Husband to a hot wife.
Too funny!! Dustin actually makes an attractive woman, with the pointy chin and his fluttering hands. Then he switches to his deep masculine voice, it's so hilarious! Very amusing scene. Ah, the good old days, when a movie like this, without superheroes, fantasy characters, or explosions, could still be a huge, huge, huge hit.
