    I think all the guitarists show cased in this feature are awesome! Love Vai, love Dino, love Petrucci, love Head and Munky, love Wes. They all have radically different styles and approaches to the instrument but all of them have been hugely influential in shaping the sound of modern metal.

      Lol stupid comments like these make me laugh, because they mostly come from people who haven’t even picked up a guitar. I dare anyone to try to play as tight and locked as Dino. His right hand is a weapon.

    @7:52 is probably one of the most accurate statements I've heard regarding one of the benefits of a 7 string. Having the root of a chord available higher up on the neck makes it easier to play intricate chord patterns within a smaller space. Your fingers are already doing a lot of work changing between chords, the less you have to jump around the neck to get to them allows for quicker, and easier transitions; particularly if you want to hop into a lead in a key that's usually found lower on the neck, you can do it much easier if you're that much closer to the higher frets without losing the low octave you could only get from lower on the neck on a 6 string.

      This was very handy when I played jazz band in high school. I always played what I call "broken 7th chords". Having 5 strings in perfect 4ths made things so much easier!

    • @JosePineda-jn8jk
      @JosePineda-jn8jk Рік тому

      @@deadsky13oh yes, 4ths tuning I started messing with and jeez does the linearity of the patterns make so much more sense to my feeble mind. 😂 it is just taking the time to relearn chord positions that takes some getting used to but, then you have the same intervals all over and the relationship of the notes becomes easier to identify when it is all uniform.

    Steve's tone was so much better back then. In the videos that he's been doing with Guitar World these past few weeks, his tone just sounds like he's trying to squeeze a 100W metal amp through an iPhone speaker.

    Even though none of us know who this jazz guy is, he has the best and most intelligent things to say. I love Vai and Petrucci and even these other guys too but they are just saying "yeah it sounds good heavy and you can get lower. or if you want you can do different tunings"
    Where as this jazz guy is pointing out "it doesn't just go lower, it also puts more notes within reach at any position." Very good point.

    I sit here watching guitar videos thinking - should I invest in getting a 7 string guitar? I wonder what more I could do with it? Well at least it's another string to my bow... What does Vai do with it? Oh he speaks so highly of it! It must be fabulous :3
    OH WHAT THE WHOLE OF I WOULD LOVE TO SOLO (at the end of the video there) USES THE LOW B IN NO PLACE WHATSOEVER? EVEN AFTER HAVING QUOTED HOW NICE IT IS WHEN IT FLAPS AROUND?!?! I can't afford thousands just to flap a B string once a month :P

    ofcourse there are more affordable 7 string guitars, think schecter had something that costs about 500 euros max? besides that, the 7 string allows you to do your regular guitar scales, like the E Aeolian mode scale, but instead of playing the scale with about 17 notes, you'll have 20 instead. its not just having a lower string, its like having that extra notes in closer reach, and not just the heavy riffing.

    Watching John Petrucci play a portion of the song 'just let me breathe' using the ibanez 7 string RG sounds and look better than his current ernie ball music man guitars. I can't stand watching him use those ugly ernie ball musicman signature guitars of his!! The irony of his segment is that when you look closely to the Ibanez guitar structure, the color and body looks like his current ebmm jpx guitar! ('JPX' funny name!!)

  • @kigawman

    @frostybob123 "they are the EPITOME of comfort and playability !!" - So! That's your Opinion! Even if I do try one of those EBMM's, it will not change my opinion on routing for the Ibanez. Likewise to you, if I force you to use more Ibanez guitars, that's your decision to play a low-mainstream instrument such as a Music Man guitar.
