Everything from VOLA is amazing. Everything. ''Head Mounted Sideways'', ''Smartfriend'', ''Inmazes'', ''Owls'', Stray The Skies''..... This band is nuts!
I think it's super interesting how different people can perceive music and especially rhythm in this one. As a drummer I heard the simple 4/4 beat with the back beat on 2 and 4 (or just on 3, however you wanna count it) and immediately thought "oh, it's a polyrhythm" and started to count out that rhythm (3 against 4 btw). But you as a guitarist mainly listened to the guitar riff and perceived the snare hits as syncopated, which is just as amazing. I just love the idea that music can sound vastly different to a lot of people and can be felt so differently
@@daokayestguitaristunder2061 It's weird for me, because I also hear the riff and kick drum pattern as a faster 4/4 on top of a slower 4/4 with the cymbals and snare hits. But I do hear the 3/4, it just sounds more like a 4/4 riff to me.
Literally sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for Chase to hit that first chorus. This song is so satisfying, it looked like Chase tried to hug himself when it hit too, I can relate to those feels. And YES please react to Head Mounted Sideways!
I’ve never heard of this song or band, but I have had this nightmare before as a kid. Scariest dream I ever had. My house empty, old, with only a floating cloaked spirit thing staring at me when I got to the bottom of the stairs.
I watch your reaction to that open riff over and over and over because it's so genuine and I had a similar reaction and I want to experience that again and again.
I've started listening VOLA recently but I truly like them, i keep listening their playlist on and on, and Straight Lines is abolutely one of my fav song! and you reaction is awesome as usual, good job!
VOLA is just something else. Had the honor to see them live in 2015 (euroblast in Cologne), just unreal! And please give "Your Mind is a helpless Dreamer" a listen. (i dont care if you do a video about it, but this Song is so beautiful.) I always totaly space out while listening to their album Inmaze
Never heard about VOLA before. This was (is) great! I loved your reaction during the pre chorus, and the shift pre chorus/chorus was fantastic. Really great. Thanx for helping me find a new fantastic band.
It makes me so happy to see much you enjoy this song too!! Vola is great, i think i listened to their first two albums on repeat for a couple months straight haha. Their drummer is also a super nice guy and will take the time to talk and respond on instagram etc; just a great group overall!
I had the pleasure of seeing VOLA live a couple of years ago when they were opening for Katatonia in Stockholm. Didn't know anything about them at the time, but they were awesome live which made me fall in love with them and their music. ^^ Can warmly recommend "The Same War" by VOLA and everything by Katatonia. ^^
Great reaction Chase and this band, they are one I will be listening to more of soon. I loved their sound and appreciated your insights, as always. Thanks my good man!
Song lit!💥🤩 Reaction lit!💥🤩 People who made the recommendation lit!💥🤩 Thank you. I have recently started to listen to songs first in the original to have an uninfluenced opinion. It fits.
You could do anything next and be satisfied, but my personal favorites are Stray the Skies, Starburn, Inmazes, Smart friend, and Whaler. VOLA are incredible and it's criminal that they aren't a household name by now. But they're in my god damned household and I suppose that's what matters
So great, thanks for picking this one apart! Would love to hear your thoughts on "Head Mounted Sideways" or "Stray The Skies" as well. I know you have a lot of suggestions and stuff to go through, but please consider "Darko US - Mars Attacks". Pretty heavy and maybe a bit out of your comfort zone (I suppose), but super avantgarde and different to ANYTHING else out there. It's a project by two members of Chelsea Grin and Emmure (both pretty big in the scene) and they're really defying genres and structures right now. If you read this, I appreciate your time!
Literally everything they've done is great, they have a great blend of heavier and more melodic ones in their catalogue. Few years back me and my mates drove for 6 hours to go see them play for half hour and it was absolutely worth it.
This sounds awesome. And I can go and look up more of this right now because I'm not a reactor, so that's exactly what I'm gonna do :p Thank you Chase.
I’m sure you’ve heard it by now but I love ‘24 Light Years’, definitely worth checking out. I happened upon VOLA a couple of months ago and these songs have just been on repeat since.
"Get in, get outta here, get all the things" looool well said! I liked their previous album, but it never hooked me to great lengths. This however... I'm on board for more!
I just wanna hear you react to Starburn. As soon as the instrumental hit, i was hooked. Please Chase i've never seen anyone react to it and its one of my favorite songs ever
Vola is one of those bands that don’t miss with their choruses. Worth checking out their 2016 album, first two songs on there are my personal favorite in terms of a catchy chorus.
Vola is just amazing - period 😉 i would so much recommend - HEAD MOUNTED SIDEWAYS - STRAY THE SKIES and SMARTFRIEND as your next 3 reactions - I’m in no doubt that you will love em. Nice reaction on your first Vola listening i very much look forward to see you dive deeper into this wonderful bands discography.
They dropped a new single called "24 light years". This is shaping up to be their best album this far. Has the heavy themes of "Inmazes" but with the advanced melody of "Applause of A Distant Crowd". And for anyone who wants VOLA song recommendations without listening to all the albums and LP's: Avalanche, Black Box, Owles, Starburn, A Stare Without Eyes, Whaler, We Are Thin Air, and anything from the the new album they've put out this far.
VOLA - finally! The danish metal/rock scene is one of the best for sure. Says a dane. Their new stuff is great, but also their older works. You should do Smartfriend!
Ohhhh yes. Sounds like you enjoyed based on the description, which as a long time fan makes me very happy. Not gonna recommend more songs, they're all great!
First time hearing this band for me too! Yup another one to add to my rotation! Mildly surprised I liked it this much as I'm not a huge fan of Sleep Token.
Btw, this was an excellent reaction. Was like looking myself in the mirror about a month ago. New favourite band! 😍👊 Older: Stray the skies and Smartfriend New record: HMS and 24 Lightyears
Finally I'm starting to check your videos outside Dreamcatcher's ones and now I can say it straight: I like your commentary even when you're not talking about something I know and like. Even more, in this case the song didn't catch me out (at least at the first listening) so even more grats to you. EDIT: Also, I don't know if you're going to check a "late" comment, but suggestions better only come from Discord or do you consider also YT comments?
Btw, another progressive metal act I'd love to hear you breakdown is "The Ocean".. you seem to have a real appreciation for intelligent compositions, and they've set the mark pretty high with their last two efforts
I know the tendency for many viewers of reaction channels is to only watch for the songs/artists they already know....this video is the perfect example of why that's the wrong way to do it. I'd never heard of VOLA before and I am now *obsessed* with this song! After way more listens in 24 hours than any song should be, the only thing I can find wrong with it is that it ends! Thank you, Chase & community for introducing me to this gem!! 🤟😍 🤟
After listening to a few songs from VOLA, i'd recommend their song "inmazes" from their first album. It's like the hidden gem of them in my opinion that not many people know or recommend. This song always makes me emotional in the best way possible, i've never heard a song like this one, maybe you haven't too. Please react to it!
Vola is a great band! Fantastic, and insightful reactions!! Thanks!! The next time you decide to take a listen to a new band, and need something interesting and more or less lighthearted, and fueled by drink an' ships, you should consider giving Alestorm a listen. Cheers! I really have enjoyed your reactions!
Today is my birthday. And all I ask is that chase please do an analysis of something from Wolfheart’s winterborn album or dawn of solace’s waves album. please and thank you good sir!
Didn't know these guys, but I like it. So if you're planning to do some non metal/rock again. Could you please check out Anderson .Paak? Specifically his NPR tiny desk concert, just do the first song. Or the whole thing if you want to!
Everything from VOLA is amazing. Everything. ''Head Mounted Sideways'', ''Smartfriend'', ''Inmazes'', ''Owls'', Stray The Skies''..... This band is nuts!
I vote for one of the latter three so he hears their sound from the previous album.
Look up I Am Not Here if you haven't heard it
I think it's super interesting how different people can perceive music and especially rhythm in this one.
Music is a wonderful thing my friend.
To me it’s just straight up 4/4 time with the riff taking 8 bars to land back on the one!
To put it simply the guitars are 3/4 and the drums are 4/4 kinda like Kashmir from Led Zeppelin
We Are by Karnivool is a great listen for something similar. (yes I know this is a year old)
@@daokayestguitaristunder2061 It's weird for me, because I also hear the riff and kick drum pattern as a faster 4/4 on top of a slower 4/4 with the cymbals and snare hits. But I do hear the 3/4, it just sounds more like a 4/4 riff to me.
As someone who was at their EP release over a decade ago, it makes me happy they still make awesome music.
Literally sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for Chase to hit that first chorus. This song is so satisfying, it looked like Chase tried to hug himself when it hit too, I can relate to those feels. And YES please react to Head Mounted Sideways!
Ayyy, I freaking love seeing you love songs that I love!!!
This band is magical..out of this whole stratosphere
Thank you so much for giving him the nudge!
@@paravarium My pleasure! 👍
the sleep token shirt! i remember ur first reaction to them. worship!
Had the privilege of sharing the stage with them at Bloodstock in 2018 :) absolutely incredible band.
The pure joy on your face when the first chorus hits, haha! Same as my reaction when first time hearing this
I absolutely love your excitement during the choruses. puts such a big smile on my face!
☺️
I’ve never heard of this song or band, but I have had this nightmare before as a kid.
Scariest dream I ever had. My house empty, old, with only a floating cloaked spirit thing staring at me when I got to the bottom of the stairs.
YESSSSS I suggested VOLA on Discord monthsssss ago (October!), so happy you got to them!! Alien Shivers is a phenomenal song
Its so amazing to see someone have the exact same reaction to something as you.
When that chorus hits....
I watch your reaction to that open riff over and over and over because it's so genuine and I had a similar reaction and I want to experience that again and again.
I love this band and seeing someone I respect enjoying it so much as well is so instantly uplifting!
Super grateful for this comment. Thank you.
When Chase says “Git In” you know you’re listening to one of the best songs ever made lmao
Anthemic - I love this song sooooo much. I drove home watching the sun set with this on - so beautiful
I've started listening VOLA recently but I truly like them, i keep listening their playlist on and on, and Straight Lines is abolutely one of my fav song! and you reaction is awesome as usual, good job!
I am SO excited for this! VOLA blew me away with their album Inmazes, I've been such a huge fan since.
VOLA is just something else. Had the honor to see them live in 2015 (euroblast in Cologne), just unreal!

Thank you, thank you, thank you for reacting to this song! Local band here from Denmark :) love it!
Never heard about VOLA before. This was (is) great! I loved your reaction during the pre chorus, and the shift pre chorus/chorus was fantastic. Really great. Thanx for helping me find a new fantastic band.
So glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching. I have a new one coming out very soon by them so keep an 👀 out.
Your reaction to this incredible song brings me so much joy! I love your musical insight!

My husband just showed me these guys last week. So glad you did a reaction to them, they’re music is so cool
Vola is fantastic. I got introduced to them last year by a friend. Hooked.
You could do anything next and be satisfied, but my personal favorites are Stray the Skies, Starburn, Inmazes, Smart friend, and Whaler.
VOLA are incredible and it's criminal that they aren't a household name by now. But they're in my god damned household and I suppose that's what matters
I know this is 2 years ago, but I love someone having the same reaction as I did. first time watching you. Subscribed.
Very much appreciate the support. Thanks 🙏
There is Sleep Token, and there is Vola. That's all there is.
Mike these are facts
I wish I could give this reaction video a 100 thumbs up. Just great.
VOLA is really good at building anticipation into cool key modulations.
I was so surprised with how versatile they are. Was listening to this then heard 24 light years I was blown away
Yes, love great Prog! Enjoy it when you do Prog reactions. Can't wait for more (still waiting for another Periphery)
Coming soon I promise
Still waiting on him to do Haken or The Ocean on the channel lol

Yes!! Knew you'd love this one, it's a masterpiece! Head mounted sideways is awesome, and they just released a new single. Great reaction Chase!! 🔥🔥
Inmazes will absolutely blow your mind. Picasso of metal songs.
Yess! VOLA is brilliant
I just wanna hear you react to Starburn. As soon as the instrumental hit, i was hooked. Please Chase i've never seen anyone react to it and its one of my favorite songs ever
love ya Chase you need to melt your face with AFTER THE BURIAL - LOST IN THE STATIC
Nice one dude.
I got so happy when you started geekin
Reminded me quite a lot of SPIRITBOX especially the beginning and in the rhythmic elements.
Stray The Skies, Starburn. New song released just today called 24 Light-Years
They just released a new song called 24 Light Years! It's a bit different from this one, but it still sounds like Vola and it's absolutely beautiful.
