Not all DIY guys have a fancy bi directional scanner. But It's worth the investment if you want to do as much as possible yourself. Bought a Autel MS906 and it's been to great use. Didn't have money for the 908.
Well Steve you either take it to someone like me or drive around with one low beam. Anyway when you decide on a scan tool you'll be able to do it yourself mate.
I've got to admit Rob that I never thought that a vehicle would throw a code for a burned out bulb. And to clear that code to get the bulb working is something that a cheap generic scanner isn't going to do. I've been researching the MaxiSys and it seems to have the most coverage of all scanners that I've reviewed. And from your procedure of clearing that code along with its bidirectional support is another indication of the amount of coverage this tool has. Very nice tip Rob and I bet it will be a big surprise to folks out there when they have a blown bulb, replace it and then it still doesn't work :) Have a good evening!! Oh, I almost forgot...Those LEDs light look pretty bright and even though they are WAY up there in the ceiling, your garage still looks pretty bright...
I see codes for blown bulbs a lot now Terry which is fine cause when they blow the driver will get a bulb fail warning on the dash somewhere. When the bulb is replaced and a self test is run the bulb will light and the code will stay in the history for information. But to have to go in and clear it before it will work is crazy. Vauxhall rear lights can mess with your mind cause if say a tail light blows the module will warn the driver but substitute it by dimly lighting a stop bulb or rear fog bulb, so when the driver checks he thinks 'there's no bulb out here' and carries on. Before now I've had to read the codes to work out what bulb to replace 😂 The Autel is an amazing tool, I had all those bidirectional options for a manufacturer that isn't that common over here.
It's just crazy you have to clear codes to get a bulb to work. I just can't see the logic behind him unless the manufacturer is trying to get the car back to the dealer for more money :) Have a great weekend Rob!
thanks , good info , cant beleive you need a scan tool for a light bulb change , next you will be needing a scan tool to open the dam bonnet (hood) , how crazy ,as i was watching your vid i keep saying so what the issue here ? but then you explained at the end !!
Wow so glad I found your video. Cars these days just get less & less durable & more tedious for what used to be the simplest to fix. Would the diagnostic scanners at auto zone or O'Reilly's work for this?
Would this work on my Sebring I have headlights tails and blinker that work when they want too. I have checked all fuses and bulbs all are good. For headlight I get one low beam on right nothing on the left turn brights on I get one on the left nothing on the right. BLINKERS IN FRONT: one on the right nothing on the left REAR BLINKERS: one one the left nothing on the right BRAKE LIGHTS/TAILLIGHTS: NOTHING. Please help me I have been all in the car and can figure it out. Works when they want too they went out on my way home last night and I get up this morning to look at it and they worked for a hole ten mins and then went out again. Please any information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I’m dealing with this issue right now. I changed both the low beam and yellow blinker bulbs but still not working. Does this mean that I’ll need to bring it to the shop (and pay them $) and have it hooked up to diagnostics?
HA, I remember a BMW too me hour to change a number plate bulb??? Changes bulb half a dozen times, ignition on...off....on...off then one of the other mechanics said remove the key for 10 seconds to reset bulb failure system Oh the joys when an apprentice LOL Great videos Rob How are those LED lamps for shadows in the area you are working in?
Haha yeh nightmare! The lights are great, less shadow than the fluorescent tubes. They have set them higher than my old lights to get a better light spread.
Yank Tanks Wyatt, Have you never heard that before? Big American cars have been called that here for as long as I can remember. Yep crazy this one eh, but you should be covered with your Autel.
I've never heard that before so it was funny to me. It's true though, when I went to a wedding in Germany the biggest kick they got was to rent an old American car as a limo. Compared to there cars it was huge!
Are you serious? you mean I have to take my car to someone that has a professional scanner in order to get my passenger headlight to work again? that's complete bs to say the least. what happened to the days where if a bulb burned out you just replaced it and went on your way. miss the days were you had gas, spark and compression you had a running motor and you had one wiring harness that ran all of your lights and/or other accessories? getting really tired of having to take car in for things that I used to be able to fix in my own backyard. guess that days of doing engine swaps and whatnot on new vehicles are gone unless you have professional equipment that most of us don't have. I'm guessing a parts store can't do this for you for free even after spending $30 for a replacement headlight bulb?
lmsvvavr you're right there! I had a Jag XF in for brakes last week that had a Check Pedestrian System warning.. That's the two airbags that fire upwards at the bonnet hinges to raise the back of the bonnet so if you hit a pedestrian it will cushion the blow to them! I did think whatever next!
With car prices being what they are...those with screens on the dash should have the scan tool integrated. In dozens of modules and computers,,, one more would not make a huge difference.
All 3 clear bulbs are out on the brand new headlight I installed 3 months ago. I’m thinking it’s a fuse. Should I take it to a shop or buy a code reader? (I’ve been wanting to check into a code reader and doing more DIY, as a hobby, to teach my son, and to save money). Btw have you ever changed the battery on that model Sebring!? What a mess! Thanks for the vid.
So were these codes stored in the body control module or does Chrysler have a module just for the headlamps like BMW? You might be able to clear them with a cheaper scan tool, but what a fucking pain in the arse. To have to take your car in just for a headlight.
I know a lot of fairly cheap scan tools can pull codes from the BCM and clear them. I'm not sure if any of the cheap scan tools we get in Europe would know what to do with one of those shitty Chrysler TIPM.
Like you people say, thats rubbish! Not everyone has a scanner to start clearing codes . A disclosure would be the best advise at start of clip. Boo to you sir!
Ahhh man , you gave away my 59 dollar secret 😁. Great video As always . I'll have to find a new profession now
Ahhh Sh*t sorry Keith! That's what I'm charging from now on 😂
Funny guy :))

Nice 👍 the 906 will do just about everything anyway.
Nice, now you know somebody like me is going to ask what to do if you don't have a scan tool besides bringing it to you. LOL
Well Steve you either take it to someone like me or drive around with one low beam. Anyway when you decide on a scan tool you'll be able to do it yourself mate.
One Auto, hahaha
Great little video Rob new one for me having to reset fault code lol but love your new workshop lights look great in my sheds lol
Cheers Paul yep those lights would make your shed visible from space 🚀
lmao I bet
where did you get them from
Council sparky mate, I'll try to find out what make they are.
lol cheers Rob
That's just daft, need a fault code reader for a bulb ! Learn some thing new every day. Cheers Rob ill stick with me candles.
Had this same issue on Dodge Calibers. Definitely a WTF feature when you first encounter it!

You may well be right there!
hi rob, scan tool needed to replace a bulb wtf!!.seen it all now.great vids.
Thanks Paul, yeh crazy init!
Where can I find that tablet diagnostic system device?
Wow so glad I found your video. Cars these days just get less & less durable & more tedious for what used to be the simplest to fix. Would the diagnostic scanners at auto zone or O'Reilly's work for this?
Thanks and I have no idea, I’m from the UK 🇬🇧
I have right low beam out . I changed bulb and fuse then ran a diagnose on it and says low beam circut low . What else can i do
Would this work on my Sebring I have headlights tails and blinker that work when they want too. I have checked all fuses and bulbs all are good. For headlight I get one low beam on right nothing on the left turn brights on I get one on the left nothing on the right.

Possibly. They have problems with the TIPM that controls that stuff. Best to get it checked out at a shop anyway
Same shock with Citroen C2 - Antipollution fault and EML on dashboard after change of entire tail light. Fixed itself after few runs.
That's not a shock for Citroen electrics Lol
I’m dealing with this issue right now. I changed both the low beam and yellow blinker bulbs but still not working. Does this mean that I’ll need to bring it to the shop (and pay them $) and have it hooked up to diagnostics?
Yes sir

new lights make your hair look grey ( oh never mind i looked at an old video still the same ) hehe great video ty
Do they! I better put some filters on during editing 😂
good one again rob...
"Hank Tank" from badgertronix, that's pretty funny. So now you have to have a scan tool just to change a light bulb? Crazy.
Yank Tanks Wyatt, Have you never heard that before? Big American cars have been called that here for as long as I can remember.

Dang I now wonder if the Launch x431 is capable of clearing this code. Good info Rob! thanks!
Crazy eh! I'm sure the Launch would have this capability. Cheers Mike!
Good to know, thanks!
Does this procedure apply to a 07 Sebring also?
Earl Haden king. I’m not 100% sure but it’s very probable.

Another one of those things.... one of this days you are going to need a scan tool to open the bonnet...

Would a blue driver scan tool work?
Can’t say I’ve never used one
Right on, thanks for your reply
which autel do you recommend?
MS908 or MS906 are decent
With car prices being what they are...those with screens on the dash should have the scan tool integrated. In dozens of modules and computers,,, one more would not make a huge difference.
That's completely feasible but there's stuff in these pro scan tools that the novice don't wanna be altering, things could end up bad 😂
hi, what kind of scanner you can activate daytime running
lights
All 3 clear bulbs are out on the brand new headlight I installed 3 months ago. I’m thinking it’s a fuse. Should I take it to a shop or buy a code reader? Best to take it to a shop, code readers generally won’t clear B codes
What LED strip lights are they?
Not sure, I'll try and find out for you
OneElectrical.com part number OE-LED-120WLLB 2nd page of this PDF www.oneelectrical.com/Brochures/LED%20Linear%20Low%20Bays.pdf
What tool is that called?
Autel MS908
So were these codes stored in the body control module or does Chrysler have a module just for the headlamps like BMW? You might be able to clear them with a cheaper scan tool, but what a fucking pain in the arse. To have to take your car in just for a headlight.
Can't remember lol I've slept since then, it said something then central gateway so prob BCM or TIPM
I know a lot of fairly cheap scan tools can pull codes from the BCM and clear them. I'm not sure if any of the cheap scan tools we get in Europe would know what to do with one of those shitty Chrysler TIPM.
I HAVE A 2001 CHRYSLER SEBRING CONVERTABLE LXI, ONCE ELECTRONICS START MALFUNCTIONING, FOR SALE SIGN UP, CHEAP!
Oddly...the craptastic Sebrings over here in the land of maple syrup have the same issues...absolutely LOUSY cars.
Like you people say, thats rubbish!
Not everyone has a scanner to start clearing codes . A disclosure would be the best advise at start of clip. Boo to you sir!
Boo to you sir! I say at 0:30 into the video you need a scanner!! Pay attention 😂
what kind of witchcraft is this !? that's crazy
I know right... threw me the first time!
Sorry but vidoe doesn't help. Not everyone has a 5k dollar scan tool
That’s the point…
Unbelievable!
Init!
