Hello. I recently purchased a Warm Audio preamplifier and I would like to convert the preamplifier output into USB to the computer. The preamplifier has an output knob And I am wondering if I put that knob to high will it damage the USB computer port using an XLR to USB cable? Thanks! By the way I sent an email to warm audio four days ago and I’m still waiting their response.
Get a mixer or interface. The USB to XLR cable doesn't provide phantom power, which is what an amplifier needs. That is why I used a phantom power supply device in this video.
FunnyGuyTimmy The preamplifier already provides phantom power to the microphone. Here is what I want. I have the preamplifier connected to the condenser microphone which is an xlr female to xlr male cable. But it’s in the output section (from the preamp) that goes to the computer where it does not need phantom power but just wondering if the output of the preamplifier will damage the Computer USB port due to high gains OR the 5 volt USB that the computer itself runs on can feedback voltage into the preamplifier output and damage it too? I think it’s better off to be in a secure zone and not use an xlr to USB cable but a dedicated interface like you said.
Bassotronics oh okay. Yeah you could use the xlr to usb to send it to the PC. However I would say try and find the highest quality name brand cable. That way you won’t introduce any additional noise. Dose the WM12 have monitoring?
my son has an audio technica at2020 cardioid condenser, he has a 3 pin type XLRM cable. but he does to have a phantom power converter, do you have to have a phantom power converter to use it? please help edit: the mic won't work on our MacBook Air
Yes you will need a power supply. A condenser microphone always need phantom power. The standard is 48volts, but some do need more and some need less. But they always need some. I recommend an interface or mixer. You won’t be able to hook up to your mac without it.
i need help PLEASE. I have a bm800 mic, newwer phantom power, xlr male to female cable and a 8mm type of xlr cable with a laptop. I'm trying to use my mic while listening with headphones, is there a way for me to do that because I only have one 8mm port in my pc.i heard souncards will help but i heard sum creates a buzz sound. do you any of u guys know any good soundcards or anything else i can do?
You are using a setup that is too complicated and should be used. It has too many conversions and is what's causing problems. Save up for an interface that does USB to your computer. That will solve that.
Hey I have a Yamaha moxf6 which has it's on interface and it integrates with cubase. I have the c1 microphone with xlr to usb cable.. if I buy phantom power can i connect to my pc
I bought a at2020 and a mixer/preamp, i then realized I needed phantom power which the mixer/preamp I bought doesn't support, if I plug the mic into the phantom psu and then the mixer will I be fine?
I had a question that maybe you could answer hopefully .. I have a sonar powerstudio interface but i lost the usb cable that supplies power to the interface via phantom power. Can i buy any replacement usb cable for that ?
I just ordered the Rode Reporter, dynamic handheld mic. I know you can plug it into a camera to use it like that but can I just get an XLR to USB/3.5 cable to plug it directly to the pc?
Yes. With dynamic mics you can easily plug them into the 3.5mm or USB jack and most of them should work fine. Most hand held mics don't need that much power and as long as the XLR to USB cable is is high enough quality, it should be good.
