  • I hated taking medications to treat atrial fibrillation. The side effects were terrible and I was worried what they were doing to my body long term. In this video I talk about what medications I was prescribed, and if I am still taking them after having a successful ablation.
It is important to emphasize that this is my experience based on my specific situation. Your situation will likely be different, and you should discuss all medication decisions with the medical professional who is treating you. Thanks for watching!

I just had my 2 nd ablation the other day ( 50 yrs of age )😢 still have to take Xeralto ,and cardizem !!! Will recover slowly, but surely . Lost already 92 lbs in 12 months . Was 355 lbs, now I’m 262 lbs. will try to lose another 40-50 lbs this year 😊 only eat fruits , veggies and fish . No meats, no poultry 😢,and it works my weight loss !!! Hope in the future , no more hospital visits, nor atrial flutters ,or arrhythmias !!! Had this crap for more than 12 yrs, and been to the hospital more times than changing my underpants !!! This has to be the first time that Procainamide did not bring my heart rate down !!! Btw , my rate was 137-160 bpms for 5 days straight 😢😢😢 did a TTE , no blood clots in my upper ventricles , and no stroke !!! Now it’s a matter of time for me to heal, and go back to my normal life hopefully 🙏

Congrats on your quest to lose so much weight. That is a pretty high heart rate for such a long time. Mine goes the other way with low 40's when I sleep. I had to turn the low heart rate feature off on my iWatch since it kept going off in the middle of the night telling me my heart rate was too low. Doing my first ablation on Monday so this channel has been very helpful. Good luck in your progress to health.

I have been on Bisoprolol & Eliquis (here in UK we know it as Apixaban). 2 months back AFib got so bad I was put on Flecinade aswell - worked well for me on the AFib but the side-effects were truely terrible and I had to come off them. Happily I had CyroAblation 3 days ago and hope to never need Flecinade again. I have commented on your "6 things you should know about ablation" & you have another subscriber.

I have had what I would consider minor episodes for a few years after being a lifelong cyclist. This past year it got bad. I saw a cardiologist for the 1st time in March of this year. He advised me to cut back on the cycling intensity. He told me I would hate him if he prescribed anything because of the side effects. Long story short, it got better but tomorrow is my ablation. I couldn't imagine going thru what you went thru

Thanks for all of your info on your ablation. Mine is scheduled for this Monday (2/20/23). I was unable to take much to stop my paroxysmal afib due to my bradycardia (resting heart rate in very low 40's). I was interested in your comments about Eliquis since I am on the same medication. Not sure if I will be able to get off of it since my CHA2DS2-VASc score is probably higher than yours due to being over 70. It really helps hearing the story of someone who has been through the process and come out with such good results. One question, were you also having other heart issues? Things like PVC's or SVE's. I tend to get quite a few PVC's which I capture using a Kardia monitor since the apple watch doesn't recognize them. Just curious if you had any those and how they were affected by the ablation. Again, thanks for doing these vids.

I had strange feelings in 2020 during covid, i had an elevated heart rate in 2020 my heart rate was between 110 and 160bpm just sat down i lost all feeling in my arms and legs i thought the worst i went to the hospital here in the UK i had chest x rays, bloods, ecgs, blood pressure checks and everything was normal on my results but my heart rate was still elevated when i left hospital, same thing happened twice in july 2020 and november 2021, im sure i still have afib symptoms still every now and then my heart rate will elevate after eating some foods and will stay at 120bpm for over 2 to 3 hours before my heart rate goes back to mid 50s to low 60s in resting my date is not the best im afraid but im trying to eat better and exercise where i can.
    ive tested two watches
Samsung Watch 5 pro 90 percent of the tests are normal sinus rhytm but when my heart rates elevated this says atrial fibrilation
Ive also used Apple Watch Ultra and this says high heart rate but no signs of afib
im not sure which watch to trust

I was diagnosed with afib in 1996 at 27 yrs old. From getting just a few episodes a year to daily, 8 hour long ones with extremely debilitating symptoms. I first went on sotaLOL which turned me into a zombie. Flecainide - which worked great for 3 years until I had a pro-arrhythmia. Atenolol. Propranolol. Verapamil. Etc .were all tried unsuccessfully. Then it was Bisoprolol which suppressed the symptoms and made them less horrible. Had a PVI ablation 10 years ago which has totally eliminated the afib! It took about 2 years for me to heal and settle though. Bad news is, I now have dreadful, totally devastating PVC’s which are so powerful they cause me stop dead in my tracks. Thankfully they only occur if I do something strenuous like lift something too heavy or push hard on a walk etc. After all this though, I’m still on Bisoprolol - 10mg day!!! It could be worse and I’m glad the afib is no more that’s for sure. 😊

IMO..the two cardiologists you are referring us to, are rather radical in their approach to the AFIB problem...both of them consider an ablation to be the very last thing to consider having, and they are very much leaning in to the more "naturalistic" approach. This goes against the more recent grain of most AFIB specialists, who strongly recommend having an ablation done during the first phase of AFIB--the paroxysmal situation that you went through. I went through an entire cycle of meds, that lasted around 4 years, before I recently had my ablation...My doctor told me that because I had waited so long, and had been in persistent AFIB for well over a year, the procedure might not work, and a re-do could happen. So far (3 weeks post-ablation) I am doing very well, no AFIB re-adjustments, etc. But I was, and am, still peeved that my cardiologists strung me along with meds for those 4 years. You are quite young, and in good shape...I am old (76), and it is therefor even more important for us older AFIB folks to consider having an ablation sooner, than later--because there might not even be a "later" opportunity!..Also, most older patients should consider staying on anti-coagulants, as the risk of stroke goes up considerably, as one gets older..even if you do not suffer from AFIB.

Hi, thanks for your comment. You bring up an important point. UA-cam is great for general information and for sharing stories, but not good for medical advice. People ask me a lot of medical questions, and I always tell them that they need to talk to their doctor who is treating them based on their specific situation. I'm not sure why your doctor had you take meds so long? That is frustrating. My doctor would have done my ablation sooner, but I believe my insurance required I try meds first. Thanks for sharing your story. This is a great comment. I'm very happy to hear you are doing well after your ablation. Best of luck to you and take care!

I had my ablation 45 days ago, after waiting 1 year for it (yeah, hungarian "healthcare"). They perscribed me only xarelto (anticoagulant) a month before, and i took a quarter of 5mg bisoprolol occassionally, wich helped calm down my afib episodes sometimes. After the ablation, i need to continue xarelto for at least 2 months, but it will be rather 3-4, as my control appointment is only end of january. Anyways, i had NO afib since ablation. Wich is a good thing. After 2-3 weeks, i already felt that my energy level is higher than... ever before? Now that i got the flu (or covid? who knows) when i had fever i felt my heart beating faster, but never afib like. Btw, i feel my pulse is generally higher than it was before. I also have much less dizzyness, lightheadedness. So i also have to assume, that my heart wasnt ticking right even when i didnt felt like having afib. Afib episodes seem to be just the tip of the iceberg, and other everyday problems didnt appear connected, but they were. So even tough the ablation was a horror story (was awake the entire procedure), i am starting to think that it was the right decision.

Maybe its the metoprolol thats making me feel like every day is a battle to get through.. i feel utterly done. I couldn’t take flecanaide unless it was started in a hospital and elequis made me have difficulty swallowing, like id go to swallow and the reflex wouldnt kick in, hard to explain. Here i am 5 yrs on using a useless drug that i have to still take or my HR shoots up to over 100bpm for no reason and my ectopics are up to 45000 a day. Im so utterly broken by this demonic thing. I carry round a Kardia now as i will catch the episodes. I, or anyone else should not have to live with any of this stuff. Most of its easily sorted by ablation unless you have heart disease etc but getting any help is impossible. Im done with my life as it is.
