Hey guys! So I think it's safe to say we got a little carried away with making this video...As we were recording, we realised that there is a lot to say about how we managed to pull this trip off, so sorry about the length...we know she's a bit of a beast 😅We do really hope you get something out of this video, whether you are planning a trip to the Kimberley yourself or maybe it might bring something to light as you prepare for a different type of adventure, or maybe you might just find it interesting hearing what goes into pulling off an adventure like this. Thank you all who have tuned into this series, we appreciate every one of you who is following our journey around this rather large country. Don't forget, if you loved some of our landscape shots throughout this season, you can now hang some of our favourite shots/ locations on your walls at home slimandsophsailingnakama.com/ as seen in our videos 😊Cheers legends, much love, Slim & Soph xoxo
It has quickly become one of my favorite channels . They are real and operating on a budget that is doable for the average guy . Good old boat , not too complicated . Complication adds more to break, more breaking adds to down time and cost .
Absolutely glued to the screen for the whole 1.5 hours! I have said it before but will say it again - how is it your channel does not have at least 100K subs? From the awesome cinematography and storytelling to the amazing locations and educational content this channel is by far the best with no unnecessary drama or fakery! For this old boy with restricted mobility who will never get to visit such wonderful places, I feel honoured to have been allowed along to share your adventure. Love your attitude to life and enthusiasm - long may it continue! Richard (UK) P.S. Just signed up for Patreon! ;-)
Wow!! So glad to have your attention for the whole video! We know it was a long one!! Thanks so much for your support Richard, we're so grateful to have you as a follower and now a new Patron, we're just so appreciative 😊 Cheers legend! Can't wait to bring you the next season!!
I have never watched a 90 min UA-cam video ever before! Your Kimberley adventure has been amazing to tag along with you. You guys are amazing. Can’t wait until the next season. Fair winds.
Slim and Soph: brilliant Q & A, the information you have collected these past months has all been put down into detail. Anyone cruising the Kimberley's should learn from your experienced eye. We are all routing for your University studies to end successfully and no matter which direction you both head, you'll impress those as you have impressed us. Just stunning, best cinematography, sound and editing on Utube.
Your adventures in the Kimberly have held me in awe. The presentation of the starkly beautiful north of Australia has been exceptional. I’m along for the rest of the ride.
Entertaining and Authentic can be a tough to pull off, you two absolutely nail it every time. Many thanks for sharing your adventures with the rest of us 🤙
I’ve loved every second of your brilliant journey, beautifully filmed and produced. I’ve learned so much of what can be accomplished with some effort and very hard work. Through your videos, has given myself a beautiful window into NW Australia and if I’m fortunate enough one day I’ll visit your gorgeous country. And you two also being Uni students is even more amazing. Being from the States, and an avid power boater (18 meters) however with 2 large thirsty diesel range (cruise burn is 114 liters per hour times 2, in a relative calm sea) is somewhat limited. But we in the states are extremely superstitious about bananas on a vessel (we post decals around that remind our friends to leave bananas at the dock), which I believe came from hundreds of years ago when bananas carried bugs that eventually burrowed their way into wooden vessels and in many cases causing the vessels to sink. So if you ever visit us here in the states, please leave bananas at the dock. When you had longer than normal breaks in uploads, I (as most were) was wondering if all was ok and waiting with bated breath until the next upload. Thank you for inviting us along on your journey and I hope we’ll see much more in the future. Honestly, I’m only halfway through this video and quite possibly you may answer that. I feel compelled to wish you both fair winds & following seas and on top of all, be safe. Much love to you both! Cheers!
Wow, wow, wow!! What an awesome series and an amazing wrap up. Thank you for bringing one of the most remote areas of Australia into my lounge room. You are both inspiring people. Looking forward to this season and, like all episodes so far, I will be watching every minute of it. Cheers from Newcastle
Thanks so much for the amazing wrap up. I watched the whole season and really enjoyed everything. Thanks so much for what you do and where you go. The videos are super professional and always fun and interesting. Best wishes for a fun future in the next season! Good luck and stay safe.
Fantastic!! this series Kimberley's was awesome. Great videoing, great adventures and the scenery was Epic. Things you could only see if on a boat. Loved the journey. And now I'll wait in anticipation for Season 4. You did say you still have left the Kimberly's. right? Then season four.
Cheers legend! Thanks so much, we're so glad you enjoyed it all. Yes! Looking forward to season 4! We share our exit out of the Kimberley within our first episode of the season😊
Love this channel and the way you two interact. Sooooooo much fun. How did you do on your exams?? Curious as to what you were studying as that seemed what you saying, however, I don't speak Australian very well [i.e., uni]. 🤪 Looking forward to the next adventure. See you next time. ✨ 🌊 💨 ⛵️ 🏝️ 👙 🌞 ✨
superb video-- answered a lot of my questions (as I sit on my 35' cat in Sydney planning the same trip). The solar/wind part was news to me-- I only have a 20hp outboard--ie bugger all charging so the genset is now in! Congrats, the sailing you do is inspiring! Phil
Honda 22i .The only thing about them is there is no sight glass,I’ve overfilled a few times. We did the trip from Perth on a Fusion 40 ,now in Darwin, heading east soon 😀😀😀😀
This was awesome guys and such a wealth of information. I’m definitely saving it for later. The images are awesome and so is the website! Thank you so much for all of your hard work putting this series, it’s really opened my eyes to the Kimberley. You two are amazing and awesome entertainers keep up the great work!!
That was quite the recap. I really enjoyed it. I can see Soph doing media from a yacht, I know of one who does. Slim on the other hand, can't see a periwig on him, only bar I can see him called to is walkabout creek.
Fantastic wrapup! It's Sunday morning and I awake to Slim & Soph. I thought I was going to get a couple of things done this morning, but could not stop watching. I looking forward to tagging along this coming season. It sounds like it will be a great one.
Wow guy's that was a awesome episode from my favourite sailing youtube channel!! Thanks for answering my question and when I need some legal advice I know who too ask 😂😂😂! Soph you and your Mum will do great in them race's for sure! I'll go drink a few beverages with Slim while your away 😅😅😂! I'm absolutely 💯 frothing on the way you produce episode's and also wanna say Thank you for bringing me along with you on this mad adventure of yours!! Enjoy guy's and please stay safe out there, also hello Chilli! 🍻
Your keeping your tender off the shoreline anchoring solution is known as a running mooring. Great vid, I enjoyed every minute though being in the UK and with anno-dominii ever marching I’ll probably never have the opportunity to get to the Kimberly, much to my sorrow because it’s an amazing area of coastline. Thank you for making these videos and giving old farts like me a chance to see places we’ve not been in our sailing lives. A really appreciated gift.
I'm originally from Cairns. I am 65 and have been a widower for 9 years. I now live in the USA. Back in May this year, I had the idea to buy a boat and cruise the Bahamas and Caribbean to get some good experience. I want to do something for myself, in early August I had a slip and fall, dislocated my shoulder, and tore my rotor cuff. I am now facing shoulder replacement surgery in the new year.I am not going to let this get in the way of my dream. I am getting the surgery, doing the recovery and then I am going cruising. Don't let anything get in the way of your dreams
An awesome way to spend a Sunday evening in front on the tv! Thank you for the insights and I truly hope that there are many antipodean cruisers who follow in your wake and enjoy the area as much as you two have!
I didn’t realise star link wasn’t available everywhere in Australia until recently. Thanks for answering that question. It’s awesome the RV version works in the anchorages and islands
Slim and Soph, I am, as I am sure that everyone else is, missing your videos; and are wondering how you are and what you are up to. We are looking forward to the reply and your return to videography. Hey James, thanks for your kind comment. Apologies for the small break between seasons, we have been madly trying to make up for miles. The first video back is dropping tomorrow! So we hope to see you there 😊 Cheers
@@SlimandSophSailingNakama Slim and Soph, Thank you for the speedy reply. Y'all are awesome. I know that y'all probably really needed a break, however, I am glad to hear that you have one on the way. If your running your engine using the alternator to produce power you should run it through a DC to DC charger, and alternator )even if it's rated at 100 amps) will only put in a couple of amps where the DC to DC charger will ram in up to 60 amps depending on what you size you buy......
Did I notice that when you stored your canned goods you left the labels on? I know that bugs use the paste/paper to lay their eggs so I learned to mark the can contents and remove labels.

We have a 60 amp Alternator, however, we have a 25amp DCDDC charger between our start battery and our house bank, small boat small battery box, it was all that would fit.
Awesome video guys. Plenty of information. After crossing the bight, if you decide to stop in port Lincoln sa, pretty pls let me know and you are welcome for a pizza night. :)
Hi guys, When it came to unchartered waters and unexpected objects like logs, did you find your drone to be of use in getting a feel for the layout of the sea around you? Have really enjoyed your travels. Thanks for bringing us along.
The only time we flew the drone when we wanted a bit more perspective was at Montgomery Reef. It was super helpful to see where the reef was as we couldn't see it from our line of sight. Sometimes though trying to deal with the drone at the same time as approaching somewhere can be a bit chaotic, so we have rarely done it 😊 So glad to hear you have enjoyed it! We appreciate you following along😊
Our boat was less than $500 to purchase, and we’re still not up to $1,000 into it. Insurance has been really difficult to find for it, because they assume it’s a shite boat, but it isn’t…we bought it at auction in the off-season in Utica, NY. NOBODY bids on a keeled sailboat in the snowbelt in December. My brother is the CFO of an insurance brokerage company, and I STILL can’t get it covered properly. My biggest concern is if it gets blown into another boat and damages it, or if there is a fuel spill incident. That happens here a lot, as everyone has to use gerry cans to fill their tanks here, there are no fuel docks on our creek.
When you travel around Outback Australia, or anywhere remote for that matter, start with 1 premise - Something WILL go wrong. Maybe something relatively minor, possibly something very bad or even catastrophic. So, follow some simple rules - 1 Carry an EPIRB at ALL times. If you run into major trouble and need rescue, it will save your life, allowing Emergency people to find you. 2 Do a first aid course. Something as minor as a broken ankles from slipping on a wet rock can kill you if not treated. Also, carry an emergency first aid kit including bandages, antibiotics etc. This will be covered in the course. 3 Carry abundant food and water obviously, but if you are away from your major source, at least carry enough to get you back to it. 4 TELL someone where you are going and when you expect to return. Either the local Police or rescue people (Marine Rescue if in NSW) etc. They will NOT feel like you are bothering them and would rather know where to start looking for you, than not know. 5 Carry basic survival tools - knife, torch (flashlight), cigarette lighter, just in case you get stuck overnight. At least you can see, start a fire etc. You don't have to make a big deal out of it, but if you think ahead, assume problems might happen and prepare and just enjoy yourself!
Our food tip: go to the asian grocery shop, buy a gnarly big jar of kimchi (last super long in the fridge). Keep the cheap woolies spam on board. Bit of onion, rice and an egg or two. BAM! Awesome tasty kimchi fried rice😊
Hey Slim & Soph, I love you two. You are super adventurous and spontaneous. You sure have learned how to stay alive & well and safe on Nakama. Really glad that the crocks or gartors didn't get a taste of you. I have had a marvelous adventure with you two. PS, I love your thinking. Thanks.
Hi, I want to get some sailing qualifications, but I forgot where I saw it on your channel. Can you give me the link to your mum's business on the Gold Coast, or Brisbane. Thanks Greg.
Want to increase investment in infrastructure? Look to Australia. Move pensions to private leaving only the most vulnerable having to rely on government. Then those pension funds (superannuation funds) will be awash with cash and looking for long term stable investments through PPP with govt.
Keep doing what you are doing. Focus on areas not touched by other YT sailing channels. Stick to Australia and eventually greater region. If you are too busy to put a video out, cut it in half to stay ahead of the YT AI. Stay real, you will do well.
In the USA you buy an insurance policy from an agent and the company that issues the policy is the underwriter. So I guess since you're in the Southern Hemisphere they call them "overwriters." 😂😂😂

So glad to hear that! Yes, that's a brilliant idea. A shame, we didn't think of that for this year!
Excellent video guys.

Yes! Of course, Tassie is a part of our circumnavigation 😊

❤awesome guys loved the Kimberly
I could imagine Slim with his white picket fence, mowing the lawns on a Sunday lol
Joking obviously
😂
Best ep ever!
Cheers!
Thanks that was an amazing series
So glad you enjoyed!
Man that is wild about the insurance. Seems crazy they wouldn’t just charge you more if they’d cover more expensive boats anyway.
I know right! Trust us, we tried to give them more money but they refused to take it!
When you travel around Outback Australia, or anywhere remote for that matter, start with 1 premise - Something WILL go wrong. Maybe something relatively minor, possibly something very bad or even catastrophic. So, follow some simple rules -
1 Carry an EPIRB at ALL times.
Cheers!
Cheers Mark!
I am interested in how the provisions work.
Good on youse real good Aussies 1:14:26

Our food tip: go to the asian grocery shop, buy a gnarly big jar of kimchi (last super long in the fridge). Keep the cheap woolies spam on board. Bit of onion, rice and an egg or two. BAM! Awesome tasty kimchi fried rice😊
Preperations or preparations ??
Hey Slim & Soph, I love you two. You are super adventurous and spontaneous. You sure have learned how to stay alive & well and safe on Nakama. Really glad that the crocks or gartors didn't get a taste of you. I have had a marvelous adventure with you two. PS, I love your thinking. Thanks.
Hi, I want to get some sailing qualifications, but I forgot where I saw it on your channel. Can you give me the link to your mum's business on the Gold Coast, or Brisbane. Thanks Greg.
Hey Greg, you can look Soph's Mum up, her business is Paper Sailors Rock, based at RQYS, Brisbane 😊 Goodluck with it all!
Thanks for that, found it. 👌😁@@SlimandSophSailingNakama
The Bathing Girl is GREAT
Fermented onions taste better and last long time. Love the vids
Epic idea
Mmm! Yum!
Never seen pumpkin grow under ground either 🤔🤣
😂 True...
What was the emergency plan? A for croc attack, B for shark attack, C for another injury?
I suppose it would be getting a helicopter to fly in from Broome or Darwin, depending on the situation
How are you both going with your UNI studies? 😅😅😅😅
You'd be surprised! 😁 If we're graduating this year, you can assume we have been getting our assignments in on time!
@@SlimandSophSailingNakama Bloody great to hear. Good onya both.
Lovly , like from Puerto Rico
Insurance compaies are shit heads that only want to cash your check but take no risk
They are definitely frustrating at times!!
'Make a mooring ball'...? esplain yours

I knew lettuce was going to be one there. Here in the UK lettuce last longer than A prime minister
😂😂
😂😂 this is so funny
Want to increase investment in infrastructure? Look to Australia. Move pensions to private leaving only the most vulnerable having to rely on government. Then those pension funds (superannuation funds) will be awash with cash and looking for long term stable investments through PPP with govt.
Keep doing what you are doing. Focus on areas not touched by other YT sailing channels. Stick to Australia and eventually greater region. If you are too busy to put a video out, cut it in half to stay ahead of the YT AI.
Stay real, you will do well.
Cheers!
In the USA you buy an insurance policy from an agent and the company that issues the policy is the underwriter. So I guess since you're in the Southern Hemisphere they call them "overwriters." 😂😂😂
😂😂 Is it also true that our toilets flush in opposite directions?....I learnt that one from The Simpsons...😂
true. The water goes down the drain clockwise up her and counter clockwise down there. or maybe the other way around.@@SlimandSophSailingNakama
