What did you like about this kit? What's missing (besides a lighter)?
A sharpie. You could slide it in with the bit extender. But you already have so many cool pieces in there. Great kit! Thanks for the ideas. Is there anything the knipex pliers can do that the cobras can't? What's the point for carrying both?
@@guy_with_no_name Thank you! A mini sharpie might be a good fit. I'll have to give that some thought. The pliers won't mar up the surface of a bolt or nut. Eventually I'll probably just keep one in there, just not sure which one I'll use the most yet. I just got the pliers about a month ago.
Wow,you've just blown my mind on how to further make my Leatherman pouch a full toolbox kit somewhat,I have the surge an live it,I may get a pen light or a small olight flashlight to add to my pouch,an been wanting a pair snippets, you also gave me another way to carry some extra zip ties,I have only bit set,I do carry a bit extender, I had a mini 711 micro Ratchet for my bit exchanger before I lost it,I do carry extra saw blades since my surge has a t-shank adapter, I'd to get that magnetic pocket clip for my pouch,it would make carry opinion for me more convenient since sometimes I switch belts an sizes like my click belt it's a tight fit when trying to feed fitting through the belt loop on the pouch,if in a hurry,it takes an minute working it off the belt,I thought about adding some strips of gorilla tape for just in case emergencies, you have some really good ideas for carry things in your pouch, I do love the crunch tool also.
I think if there any room left,a mini ceramic rod to hone up your knife edge,my file has a diamond side as well,I gotta better at it sharpening up my tools
@@kennywheelus6857 I have a diamond file on my wave and will typically sharpen at the house, but might be a good add if there is room. Touching up serrated edges would be awesome
Definitely the best lighter for someone who isn't using it multiple times a day is a Bic disposable. These last much longer than 1 refill in a refillable lighter, because they're filled and sealed under pressure in the factory so contain much more gas than you can ever put in a refillable. I know this because I'm a smoker and generally use Clipper refillables which you have to refill every 3 weeks or so, but a couple of years back I had a Bic which lasted me 5 months.
Interesting, thanks for sharing. I purchased a Zippo lighter and i didn't knew after refilled it will go so fast.
@@ch0lito You'll be lucky to get a full week (7 days) out of a Zippo. I personally carry the Mini Bic's. I like matching the colors to my EDC gear.
imo we should stop messing around with disposables both for our economy and our environment. I've been using my gas station metal clipper since 2016 you can also replace the flint in clippers btw
@@krkrbbr I know and agree with you totally on reducing waste with disposable lighters, and I don't buy them, as many non branded ones are crap anyway. I only have Clippers, both the small and standard size, because you can refill them over and over again and replace the flints. I smoke so I use them multiple times a day, also sometimes to light gas stoves at work when the electric ignition doesn't want to work. But what I meant is that if you don't smoke and want a lighter only to be in a survival kit, unused until there is an emergency, then I'd say a Bic is better for that purpose. However I just have multiple Clippers spread between my pockets and any bags I carry, as well as at home, where I also always have a couple of packs of replacement flints, and a bottle of lighter gas.
Great video! I use the same pouch for my edc. I took two metal joist hangers and inserted them face to face into the large pouch area. This sacrifices some space, but it allows me quick access to my wave plus whenever I need it. No more pulling everything out to just use the multitool. Also, I added a small magnet on the side that keeps my bit driver from creeping out.
Gotta love the Leatherman Crunch! I just got one and am thinking of making a toolkit around it. Thanks for sharing your version!
Very versatile tool for sure. Glad you enjoyed it!
I was gifted a leather holster for my Leatherman Surge, Raptor, O-light mini baton, & pin. I shoved the nylon holster I carried my Surge in, into a junk drawer. Now I have to fish it out and see what I can add into it. Thanks for the inspiration!
I’d recommend a small peanut lighter. Uses zippo fuel but has an o ring so the fuel doesn’t evaporate. Could easily be added to a keychain of somewhere in this kit.
I'll have to check that out
That's a good idea too
Peanut Lighter! Thank you! I knew about those but not what to call them.
No way. Why? Just get a mini Bic! It may not be as cool, but it is far more reliable.
Please prove me wrong.
Nice kit one of the best edc kits on youtube.
Thank you, I appreciate it.
Great set. Enjoyed the video
Very nice setup. I'm a Crunch fan also and carry it every day at work paired with either my Charge or Surge and the bit kits and extenders/ratchet. I just picked up the 4in knipex pliers. But your setup gives me some ideas. Thanks for sharing!
If you cut the locking end off of one zip tie to use as a holder for the others they will stay secure no matter how many are in the bundle. A Vanquest PPM Slim or Maxpedition Micro or Mini pocket organizer may suit your needs well.
One of these days I'll pick one up
I would add in a nail clipper. Victotrinox makes a quite nice one for not a lot of money. Whenever I'm working or camping it seems like my fingernails take a beating.
I wouldn’t trust that magnet through a webbing strap, no way! (Wouldn’t want to lose all that cool stuff) 😊
I guess a tracking tag would be a good add!
Man thank you for sharing that, that brass caliper is exactly what I need
I’m usually ok with judging sizes
But usually don’t mean always innit
This is a really nice, well thought out kit 👍😆
Thank you, already evolved from the feedback on here
The calipers are genius!
I love those brass calipers, im stoked to see them in someone elses kit!
I love them
Use them everyday, been carrying at work for 7 years.
Love the caliper, and using the shrink tubing for the zip ties.
A favorite item of mine from my motorcycle kit, and for which it has occurred to me to add to my regular little edc is posi-tap lock it wire connectors… don’t need a lighter for soldering and they hold rock solid even long term.
Good feedback, I'll check that out!
Good 💡
Pretty solid setup. Good luck with your channel! I hope you hit 1000 soon
Thank you. I really appreciate it!
Those brass calipers are great. I’ve had a set for years that I carry in my kit
They are surprisingly inexpensive which is nice
Amazing how you can fit so much in that little pouch. Thanks for sharing, I just recently picked up the Crunch and Charge TTI+ I am thinking of getting a thin sling back that can be used on shoulder and waist, and can fit much more items. like my phone, bits, lighter, etc. They have some really Cool slim ones today with lots of pockets in them.
No shortage of options!
Great kit. Shocked by how much was in it
Never heard of the leatherman crunch….that’s cool
You aren't the only one, I didn't know about it until last year
Nice kit. For the lighter, I'd go with a full-sized Bic slid inside the top, so you can wrap an elastic band around one end, pull over to top of the sheath flap and wrap around the other end on the Bic. I reckon this will work for you, I'm going to do the same, myself. Regards from the UK.
I didn't think of storage like that, I like it. Since I posted the video I have put a full size Bic where the extender was and jammed the extender in the main pocket. Fits nice. Glad to share knowledge and learn across countries.
I like what you did. Very nice kit. You can throw in a pack of matches in there for fire, instead of the lighter. Also, not sure if you are aware of this but if you take the tightening bolt out of the Crunch, the hole in the handle hold bits. So it’s a very versatile tool.
Got to love a Leatherman that can use a regular hex!
The ,Wish keychain mini lighter in my favourite, it's very small, runs on lighter fluid, but the " O" ring seals great, and can last for months unopened, I have the new Akpaka mini pack ( Orange and Black) fits all my small tools, and favorite "Ranger eyes"on the velcro I also love the Leatherman Crunch, has a Great File, also have the "Big idea" bit screwdriver ,Great video,
Thank you. I'm not familiar with the big idea screwdriver. Do you have a link?
If you find that you regularly have need of the eyeglass driver in the leatherman bit kit, perhaps switch out the Wave for a Surge.
One of the primary differences between the two is a housing for a replaceable T shank saw blade or file on the surge.
It's a little janky but you can actually seat the eyeglass driver into said housing well enough generate the torque necessary to remove very small screws.
Leatherman also produces a ratcheting model of the bit extension you have there which works really well with a universal socket called a GatorGrip. It's a pretty handy combination if you deal with hex nuts or larger stripped bolts with any regularity and don't want to haul a whole socket set around in your pockets.
You can get an eyeglass driver bit holder that fits in the bit exchanger off of ETSY for a few bucks
I am going to try a peanut lighter for my edc it may work good for you too
If you can find one small enough, I'd suggest swapping the brass caliper for an actual machinist quality steel one. Why? Because you can scribe with a steel caliper, not really practical with a brass caliper. I'd also suggest swapping the Knipex Cobra for a prybar. The Cobra is a great tool, but it is redundant in your kit. Pretty much any fastener that is too big for the Crunch to put a bite on will require way more leverage than you can get with that wee lit'l Cobra. Add a couple of small binder clips, you'd be surprised how useful they can be, in addition to being handy for keeping papers together. Just clip them to the bottom of the back page cover of the Field Notes. And if possible, figure out how you can add a little tube of super glue, like the one's Harbor Freight sells.
mini bic lighter of course. also, I put a 5/16 Milwaukee nut driver in the bit extender. Since the bit extender is already 1/4 inch i dont need another
Good idea, I didn't think of using that space.
Exelente,Un saludo desde Argentina
The crunch will also use recip saw blades just hold them in the groove portion of the jaws. The eyeglass screw driver you can hold with the wave. Pull the handles apart without opening the tool then put the screwdriver between the handles at the joint end and squeeze them shut on the screwdriver. They will hold it enough to work with. I would use a mini Bic lighter. Where to put it is a different story lol
I ended up going with a large Bic lighter and put it in the side and jammed the bit extender in the pouch hah. I tried that with the wave and didn't like it. Good point on the crunch!
nice kit.
Thank you!
Great video two thumbs up👍👍. WOW, they’re using a button kind of cover to hold your stuff in. I hate Velcro!! Unfortunately, seems like all tactical gear has it. I like the old style of World War II type of magazine holders and gear with a button locks secured stuff in.
Using a magnet near any sort of magnetic strips, like your license, or credit cards is asking for potential problems.
Thank you. I agree
Gotta love those unmentionable airsoft devices.
Where’s the kitchen sink? I’m impressed you really packed it well. I could have used you for my recent move! Well done.
Thanks! Thought of throwing a picture of a kitchen sink in it after all the comments
You will need some sort of quality crimper in order to use those heat shrink connections if you want a stable fix with it, otherwise you might as well just carry some solder and a small butane torch/lighter to make the repair and head shrink it. Maybe a hot glue stick for a field repair to keep something from flapping down like a wire.
The wave's crimper works well with those.
Not bad. My own personal preference is the Surge just because you can take off the file and sharpen the knife. There are a few aftermarket bits like a battery tester, handcuff key, more stuff I needed and haven’t used haha, like a beard comb I just think is pretty funny that fits on the t shank blade exchanger of the surge. Even got a scalpel holder that’s a t shank for it so I can run scalpels. I replaced the main blade on my Skeletool with a scalpel holder and a hammer on the end where the clip is so I have something I could pound a pin into place with maybe. But I’d say what you have there is pretty decent. I dumped the crunch, replaced it with a Milwaukee locking jaw. Didn’t care for the crunch at all, ended up just sending it back. But that’s just me, a lot of people like it
I like and have the surge, just too big for me to carry everyday. I've been meaning to replace my main blade on the skeletool with a scalpel, where did you get yours? I've only seen the one place online (can't remember the name). I'll have to find that beard comb!! I need it haha. I'll never give up my crunch. Thanks for the info and feedback
Does that battery tester work well?
@@naclandpaprika the scalpel number four is what I went with and got the Havalon blades, basically it’s the longest blade you can get still allowing it to close. Also picked up a 154cm blade off eBay to put on my surge but I don’t think it’s going to fit due to not making contact with the locking mechanism, so I’ll just put that on a cheaper Leatherman maybe
Thank you for the info
May I ask what number an size of the scalpel blade so I can order for my surge as well please, ty,I bought some knock off blades,Hart, for my t-shank for multi purposes, an they work, wasn't sure until I got home, the surge is awesome just saying
I can put my leatherman p4 and the knopex 100 together in the leatherman sheath? And the leaterman sheath is the larger size?
Yes you could. The sheath is the larger version that came with the Surge.
Hey amigo - check out the Skinth Shields - they will replace the Leatherman sheath and last you a solid decade - honestly the best thing since sliced bread
Nice! I see they have some solid pocket organizers too
A well stocked kit. Curious of the weight. I’m guessing 22 ounces or 625g? Do you pocket carry your wave
I'd have to go weigh it. Changed a bit. Yes I pocket carry my wave with a pocket clip
What size is the Leatherman sheath? I would like to give something like this a try
I'm not sure which size but it came with my surge
IMHO take a old gift card and wrap the wide gorilla tape around it length wise to a tolerable thickness and eliminate all the other binding items.
Great band aid material and tinder also. It should fit nicely.
Might have to give that a try. I use Velcro straps and twist ties quite a bit with cable management around the house.
@@naclandpaprika try to whittle the items down that you carry on you that can multi task so you are more likely to always have it on you.
Bulk and weight eventually ends up being left at home. Small ferro rod for your ignition source for redundancy to a mini Bic hanging from a belt loop in your front pocket.
Keep the tool box near by for stuff around the house.
I do like your thought process though! : )
@@A_Meek_lake_Dweller these kits are always evolving! Haha
Very good video, next time for people like me who does not know anything or are beginners in this world, you should list the items with a link to purchase them :)
Thank you. Good suggestion, I was back and forth on it but will do it on future videos for sure. I'll see if I can add some links in the description today.
I just added some links for you and others.
Wow... Add a jack knife lock pick!
Good add!
Can you use the bit kit with the Crunch?
Yes you can
Victorinox Spirit X + Knipex Cobra 150 + Fenix LD 12 + Victorinox Explorer = BEST EDC
Nice
Just saying the crunch has a hex drive in the bolt area so maybe standard hex bits. If you knew that allready then apologies
Yes it does. I got the crunch after the bits, otherwise I might not have gotten the bits. They are nice to carry and use with the wave or surge. They just might move to a different pack eventually.
I am using small BIC lighters from gas station. Works well. Unfortunately those are disposable ..
Just considered a consumable, which is okay
Nice kit. I’ll be stealing ideas.
Quick side note, if you’re not already aware, the wave should have a small eyeglass driver bit holder tucked away on the interior. It’s small and easy to miss, but it works well enough for what it is.
Thank you. Glad to share. Yeah there is a spot where the pocket clip goes but I am not aware of anywhere else. I'll have to look around.
@@naclandpaprika there should be an actual, swing out driver that it clips into. It’s easy to miss. Or maybe they updated the wave without me realizing it. I have the basic wave, not the wave+
@@aka5742 I'm an idiot, the wave plus has an eyeglass screwdriver holder. I meant to say I can't use it when I carry my skeletool, or my surge for that matter
@@naclandpaprika haha now it all makes sense. Great problem to have enough leathermans to forget what they’re called at any given point. Thanks again for the ideas
@@aka5742 no problem, thanks for keeping me honest haha
Name of the case please?
Dude. MacGuyver is soooo Jealous right now
I like those rubber bands, where can they be found?
fieldnotesbrand.com/products/band-of-rubber
@@naclandpaprika thanks!
Just make them out of bike inner tubes. Those are the original ranger bands. I make all mine out of bicycle inner tubes
Just curious, are you against plasma lighters?
I've never used one. Are they reliable?
@@naclandpaprika I currently have a SUPRUS dual plasma lighter. Main function-wise, yes--it's reliable. I was able to start a few campfires instantly. This is comparable to using Ferro-rods or any of the other classic methods without a crazy amount of effort.
@@FrankTranDesign interesting, I'll look it up. Thank you
@@naclandpaprika I will say YMMV. Also, idk who lights a fire with wet wood, but if that's your jam--yeah my plasma lighter can't light that
Case name please
Wow how much does all that weigh?
Good question, I will have to check
Faltou um isqueiro BIC !
Bic mini. Buy a dozen and keep one in every pack and jacket and one in your pants pocket along with your light and pocket knife. They're just as reliable as full size.
4 different gripping/plier tools?! Seems like you have redundancy with your heaviest tools.
One of the Knipexs will go to a different spot. Just not sure which one I'll use more yet.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 🤝🏻🇧🇷
Also, heres what you can do with the eyeglass bit ua-cam.com/video/hKPu-QjpEDM/v-deo.html
Measure diameter and length???
Because that makes no sense, I'm assuming you mean it's flexible to wrap around something. This would be the Circumference . Yes, im a geek.
Flexible tape that wraps around the circumference of a cylindrical object. One side of the tape measures the circumference, the other side measures the diameter.
You make this work?
Not sure what you are asking, but yes.
@@naclandpaprika it just seems like it's too much and you'd forget you have half the stuff you have.
@@latetodagame1892 oh gotcha, yes it works well for me.
You said butt connector 😂
a Bic mini lighter
The Leatherman bits are way too soft and poor quality.
Knippex on the other side is another universe. Great tools!
We have very similar EDC set. Cheers !
I agree. Thank you!
NiPex, k is silent
ua-cam.com/video/Jg38fvLR6-k/v-deo.html
I think you need a pipe wrench in there also.
Imo this is completely overbuilt and impractical. Not even trying to be a hater, but why not just carry a tool box in your truck or car with all this stuff. How much convenience are you really saved by carrying half of this stuff as opposed to walking to your vehicle as needed. I am an electrician myself, so I just carry a tool backpack with all my general use tools, and it's exactly as I was saying. When an average or common problem arise that my multitool cant solve, I always have a tool to help out; and its only ever just a short walk to the truck away.
Totally get it, to each their own. I like having a small kit like this for a limited time when I'm not willing to haul a tool box around in my vehicle. Or to throw in my backpack when I happen to be with other people hunting or fishing that don't have a toolbox with them. Overkill with the Knipex because I don't know which one will stay. The majority of the time I'm willing to walk and grab the right tool for the job, I don't EDC this all day every day.
I wonder if a mini bic would fit and ride ok under the blue or red velcro straps?
I tried that but then had a hard time snapping the lid closed
What do you do for a living? IYDM. Cuz that is an extensive kit!
It's not for work, a lot of random odds and ends projects around the property
