A voice from the Silent Generation! When I was a child I lived in Kingsbury and between the ages of four to six I used to catch the 52 bus to my first school in Burnt Oak. One day during an air raid I was turfed off the bus at Kingsbury Green (54 minutes into the video). I was all alone and the siren on the green was blaring away. The grown ups were scurrying about clearly scared. I didn’t know what to do so I walked home.

Thank you. On another occasion, again all alone in our back garden, I watched a spitfire chasing a doodlebug (V1) presumably trying to bring it down in the Welsh Harp. Unfortunately, I heard It came down in Edgware killing several people. As young children during the war we weren’t at all scared.
