“I’ve got to remember who I’m cooking for.”
Ben both being bitter about his loss and adjusting accordingly is 💯
Hate the spoiler
Then dont read the comments before watching a video? What do you think the comments will talk about football?
its funny, I saw him use a bergamot and immediately knew it would be bitter af. Knew Ben went too far you really have to experiment with that thing to get it right, the fact people didn't get stomach issues after should make him feel good lol
He's cooking for Jamie and still making a salad. That's the weird part for me 🤣
@@timm4008 Well, the spoiler was in the video..... but you can't really judge them can you.... or he thought your comment was a spoiler (it wasn't) in which case you are right.... don't read comments before watching a video.
Jamie's "the sauce is the best thing on the place" juxtaposed with the huttlestorm involved in making it is pure comedy xD
Yes! I've learned to take notes when I'm splodging things in--because that happens! 😅 You accidentally make something amazing, you want to be able to duplicate it 😊
How Mike salvaged that sauce from being a gloopy thick red substance that tasted like gravy granules to become a smooth, runny, layered and perfectly balanced sauce that was the plates best component was an absolute miracle 😂😂
I’m loving the fact that the chef gets less time then the normal. Leaves Mike some time for a Huttlestorm and to deal with the aftermath.
Exactly 😂
A huttlestorm🤣 perfect
@Sorted Food I'd also say to give the normal some notice of what's in the box, so they can plan ahead.
@@puffinbasher like 30 min plan time but same cooking time
A great chef can keep things 'relatively' simple but do them far better than us normals could, a normal trying hard will see that extra time as an opportunity to try to be creative. The extra time is an illusion, elevating a dish to another level while being quick/efficient/whatever is what a restaurant needs to survive first, then thrive, unless they are aiming for a L'Enclume-type experience but that is fairly niche. An amateur thinks in terms of ingredient over time expediture, a professional thinks in terms of time over ingredient expenditure, getting the most out of simple concepts is the bulk of the restaurant business and gets people to eat dishes out (and pay a premium for) that they could make at home.
It's official, they finally broke Mike's little mind in this episode.
Poor Mike 😂
“pheasant by a peasant” is my favorite Mike line ever
I was going to ask if Mike was okay. He seemed a bit... Manic in this one.
@@angelousmortis8041 apparently he's got a lil baby at home. so this might've been filmed while his wife was heavily pregnant
I was literally crying when Mike was grabbing things at random and chucking them in the sauce, how it ended up being good was a miracle 🤣🤣
That's why they are no longer normals. Mike has enough sense of what works to take the sauce from bland to something tasty just by adding different ingredients. A true normal would end up with something awful.
I do the same thing. That is how I found out the one thing Fireball is good for is deglazing.
@@nanoflower1 on that note. Though I would argue they are still normals. I would like to see a future expansion through the addition of „newbies“ or similar (for good, a season or a subseries). Where then challenges like experienced normal vs newbie + chef can happen.
Sometimes grabbing random things works! I've made some really tasty BBQ sauce that way! I'm just mad I didn't write it down so I can recreate it.
i too have made some delicious stuff that way
Ohh, how I wish there was footage of Ben getting to see Mike's red wine, butter, gravy, orange, maple Huttlestorm for the first time!
I would love that too!
Ben "my only mistake here may have been cooking Jamie a salad"
Jamie during his challenge, "WILL IT SLAW"
An interesting video idea would be a chef vs. chef (Ben vs Kush) mystery box Battle, where the normals prepare challenging boxes. Maybe revisting failed pass it on combinations and see how the chefs work with them
I second this Idea. I was thinking the exact same thing.
I saw them tease this on Instagram, so likely coming soon
THIS!!!!!!
If ever i saw a good idea this would be it!
I think it would be interesting to have a chef vs chef battle with an assortment of random mystery box ingredients, but the caveat is that both chefs have to randomly choose a normal to partner up with from the spinning wheel! There could be challenges like swapping the person on the team in the kitchen after an amount of time or something else but would be entertaining seeing how the chefs collaborate with their normal
Poor sweet Mike was so on edge that brought Baz on edge which brought me on edge, loved this one 😂
Also, Baz helping Mike just show us their friendship and camaraderie ♥
I haven't even seen who won yet, but I wanted to pop up and say I'm delighted to see Mike playing things by ear and just trying stuff. He's becoming very skilled and as he learns to trust his instincts, I expect him to make some truly brilliant meals.
I love how much berry was helping mike in this episode lol 😂 ❤
That's because mike was having a full on break down xDDD Incredible his dish didn't taste crap lol
@@deathragh1 he just had a kid. makes sense lol
Same!! Was very sweet aha
@@vimalvinod1832 depends on when this was filmed. Could have been months ago.
@@vimalvinod1832 ahhhhh yea fair that makes a lot of sense lol, he seemed more manic than usual
"Pheasant, cooked by a peasant" made me laugh more than it had any right to! 😄
Barry panicking at 13:06 over Mike adding so much mustard to the gravy was the best part of the video.
Mike saying "oh no, I'm worried" about the same ingredients that made Ben go "oooh!" is perfect.
So happy to see Barry hosting and not causing chaos and leaving hobs on.
He's safe on the sidelines.
But we love his chaos. Now it's his turn for Chef vs normal hopefully
Ben’s dish looked unreal!!! I would inhale that delicious looking plate of food in about 3 minutes flat!!!
He'll be happy with this comment!
I've never seen Mike panic so much for Jamie to love the sauce he frankensteined.
Cooking with ebbers, feels relaxing and chill then you get one hell of a adventure watching Mike in pure chaos 😂
I think an interesting battle would be a long-lasting recipe battle - they get a lot of time to make things that last a long time in the fridge/freezer/pantry, then after a week or two of the ingredients being stored, they get 10 minutes to reheat and assemble.
Not gonna lie, I think the part I enjoyed most about this episode was watching Mike improvise by gradually piecing familiar flavours together to something unfamiliar and new to figure out whether it'd potentially work or not. It's still based on fundamental knowledge, but has that intriguing part of the unknown that makes you wonder whether the theory follows with the practice.
I am actually quite interested in a video where the leftover ingredients from these kind of challenges are being used to cook something.
Love to see that
I'm pretty sure they've done a leftover challenge before.
"Pheasant cooked by a peasant" golden 😂
These are great, because Mike really encapsulates what it feels like to be a home cook. The chaos, undercooked meat, making split second decision on whether to commit to an idea, throwing everything into a pot trying to balance the right flavours. And it also shows the gap in skill and knowledge that chefs have from us regular home cooks.
Inspired by how the normals TOTALLY didn't cheat a little bit here to help out the Huttlestorm by prepping his oven and giving suggestions...
Have a Chef v Normal battle but the normals absolutely blatantly cheat to make a premium dish. I just wanna see Ben's face when they pull out a stag feast and Ben got chicken and dumplings 😆
I would love to see a Bay Leaf Taste Test. Cook the same dishes with & without and see if Ben & the normals can even tell the difference! 😄
Baz always does such a good job hosting these kind of episodes 👏
yess thats what i thought
i love seeing barry rooting for mike from the sidelines!! normal solidarity haha
Barry's facial expressions when Mike is Huttlestorming the sauce ingredients "Tomato apple pie?! What?" 😅🤣
Mike still did a much better job than I would do if you threw a box of ingredients at me. Well done, Mike!
As a Filipino, I can confidently look at a random fish and go: eh 🤷🏽♀️
Because it can either be fried OR put back in some water and made into a soup
😂
We love to try one of your fish creations!
I encourage you to look up the traditional Catalonian meal Calcot - a spring feast centered around those green onions charred and cooked in a wood fire. It's a fantastic regional meal not a lot of people have heard of!
The big question is just how large will the Huddlestorm be 😂
Only time will tell......
That was a great episode!
That being said, things I miss:
- Bloopers
- James
- "It's gooey in the middle..."
i do feel that the biggest advantage that chef Ben has in these challenges is composure, sure he has more skill but Mike is not a bad cook but he runs around the kitchen in a flurry of chaos.
but great video none the less :P :)
I am way too invested in the competition lol Tell me why I AUDIBLY gasped when Mike's pheasant wasn't done in the middle? Love these challenges, boys!
In a sometimes gloomy world, the Sorted boys can also make me smile! Thank you lads! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Barry is giving out solid cooking competition host vibes and it made me think, what if Sorted Food did a tier ranked competition based on the packs app and invited a bunch of chefs, home cooks, and others in the culinary field to compete against one another. Whoever gets to the top of their tier than has to cook against Poppy and Ebbers! And Barry hosts the whole thing aha! Just an idea
I'd love to see a Hero Ingredient: Beans; Pass it Along or a Food Battle!
It's such a diverse, cheap and healthy food that deserves some extra love!
Seeing this video I would love to see the boys compete for a "Butcher's Badge", identifying different raw meats and maybe breaking down a big slap of meat into different cuts. It could be followed by a blind taste test to see if they can identify the meats by taste and texture alone.
As always I love the content and can't wait to see what the team does next
need me a dedicated bay leaf episode!!!
This has got to happen!
I don't know what Baz's mystery box dish will end up looking like, but I feel like it has to include eggs in the box. Within all of the panic, you know he's going to make something fun with them!
Mike making the sauce is me when I tell my husband I'm going to "experiment" for dinner because none of the ingredients we have make sense.
Mike's pulling it together... Good for you, Mike! Ben looks a bit flustered... but, still keeping his cool, as expected. Bravo!
I would love to have see 2 specific reactions:
First: Ben trying the sauce
Second: Ben watching how that sauce was created "composed"
These episodes are always good fun.
So interesting to contrast how Mike handles the time pressure with how Ben does. Mike seems like he’s let frantic take him over, but Ben (being a chef) is so used to pressure that though he’s clearly activated, he’s focused and thinking ahead.
Anyone else missing the outtake at the end? Always loved to end with a giggle :)
I LOVE BAZ ON THE SIDE IN THIS ONE..REALLY HELPFUL.. GREAT JOB GUYS.
I just.... I just love this channel. It really makes me smile. Even on my really low days, I can come here for a bit of cheer, laughter and escapism. This channel has been a sort of free therapy for me, and I'm grateful 👌🏾x. Ps(, Ben's dish looked yummy)
I completely agree with you; Sorted always manages to bring a smile to my face no matter what kind of day I've been having, and no matter what kind of video they put out! From their travel series to their battles, everything is so well-made, funny, and helpful, and I've utilized a lot of what they've taught me in my own cooking.
Side Effects of the Huttlestorm include:
Delirium - Exhibit A: “Tomato pie but I’m not making a pie.”
Really impressed by Mike's approach to trying to do something different -- and trusting what he's learned
This one is terrific! Bravo, guys. The best challenge video you've done so far.
Barry "you're in safe hands"
Mike and Jamie....*oh dear* lol
come on Baz! make us normals proud!!!
I’d love to see you do a video where each person lacks a sense ie sight, sound, taste, voice 🙈🙉🙊and then to try and work together to make like a cake or something OR a video where Ben has to try and make something with a recipe that has been sent through google translate 20 times before being put back in English
Barry trying to work out whether apple and tomato do actually go together was so funny 😂
i just imagine kush franticly looking for something sweet and dive bombing the maple syrup into camera lol
I love how Barry just walk fastly to that oven
Love you guys! So inspiring always and the camaraderie! Awesome stuff!! Greetings from across the pond... (Canada) :)
Love how Mike just started cooking something and then decided on the final dish.
The more I watch of y'all's videos, the more I enjoy listening to you talk about how flavors work together. Trying to make something, discovering that it isn't working, and just figuring out what it needs on the fly is something I'd definitely struggle with. I'd be more likely to toss it, but that's...well, that's food waste, and we hate that. I've got a lot to learn.
Love you guys so much! Always happy to see your faces. 🧡💜
I love how Barry was fully on board with helping team normies!
I love these kinds of challenges!
I love how everyone is pitching in to help Mike with the mess he created to salvage it.
Always love these videos boys.
Mystery box videos are some of my favorites!
Man, Jamie and Baz's reactions make me *really* want to try that seat-of-the-pants jus.
Ben's relief at winning it is so good to see :D you literally see him breath out there 😂 but well deserved. that extra knowledge and skill came in handy and obviously playing to Jamie's preferences didn't hurt either. just from looking at it, I think I would have preferred to try ben's dish as well. Well done both of you though. Can't have been easy for Mike with none of Ben's knowledge when it came to the meat and fish.
i love the panic, and just throwing shit in the pan. pretty relatable
It's been a while since we've had a classic Huttlestorm. Both dishes look awesome. I think Ben's was better but given that Mike didn't have a clue where the dish was going until it arrived it was an excellent effort. I'm a little bit in awe iof Mike's "MacGuyvered" Jus.
Question for Ben: what exactly is a “very casually dressed Salad”………Crocs and Footy Shorts?, a Hawaiian Shirt and Cargo Shorts??
I can't cook or anything, I just love watching these lads, just seem like nice genuine funny group of mates
I always look forward for my daily Sorted video while I eat lunch! Then at night when I get in bed I shuffle through the Chef Skills playlist and end with a Poker Face video or two! I have them memorized but they’re still so entertaining! Lol! Love ya boys! From NC, USA!
Love the use of pheasant I know some people are against it but as someone who loves going out shooting and everything that comes with it would love to see you guys work more with the game style meats Like pheasant, partridge or something which is incredible if you can get hold off it Muntjac 😍
Barry really put a lot of sea salt on Ben’s injury by mentioning Jamie’s victory 😂
Congrats on the new addition to your family Mike!
Congratulations mike hope you have a lot of fun and happiness in the coming year
Years
You guys should have a bistro that's open 1 day a week (don't wanna lose the youtube vids), 2 menus per day, 1 vegan and 1 "normal", and new menus every day.
Then we get to actually experience and taste your skill. I genuinely think it's a good idea, and I would definitely come by if I ever visit Britain!
Watching you guys makes my day that much better! 🙂🙃🤭🤗✌
I love that you found calçot's.
Though over here with that precise type of "onion" we usually just throw it into a fire, or on coals so the outside gets charred, then peel the outer layer and eat it with a Romesco sauce to dip. DELICIOUS!!!!
Yes! More beat the chef challanges! Go Normals! You guys rock!
Ben's disappointment about his untried flatbread. There was no group shot for it either! Justice for the bread!
Mike's au jus is a miracle.
Great battle! I do like it when Ben comments on the dishes after the judging is over. I would have loved to hear his insights and perhaps even compliments on Mike's dish from a cheffy perspective. Also, Jamie playing at the pretentious judge was hilarious 🙂
I love Mike in the kitchen. I think he knows more than he thinks he does, which is why the Huttlestorm works: he doesn’t have time to second-guess himself.
God! I love that last look after , YOUR INSAFE HANDS😂
I still so genuinely, genuinely hope you'll make an episode on our Dutch "kroketten" (croquettes). We're neighbouring countries right? You can use mushrooms, vegetables, prawns, parsnip :) Would LOVE this :)
How about an entire episode on Dutch snackbar food (and yes it’s actually called a snackbar)? 😁
@@Anna-uh3jq Yes. YES. Y. E. S. 😆
dutch snackbar food would be amazing. as long as they do the Febo justice i wont complain (also bitterballen would be fun)
Well done both of the boys! Both plates looked delicious!
Actually can’t deal with Mike biting the cauliflower and putting it back in the pan 😭
Congratulations mike and parter. Best wishes to you all.
Mike’s sauce was, um, a confusion of flavours. I’m glad it was edible! Well done Ben - nice and cheffy.
I’d love a version of this where they swap half way through, the chef has to salvage what the normal has already ruined - and the normal tries to live up to the first half of chef’s
Warm feeling dish from Mike, great!!
Ben verses Kush in the next one! Ben sweating against another Chef would be superb.
I like Mike's strategy of making things. Chuck things in and decide later.
The whole time I wanted to grab that tomato off Mike's bench and hurl it across the room so he didn't use it
OMG! It's a pepper cannon @4:18! I love mine so much!
Calçots in Spain are typically barbecued whole, then the charred skin is stripped off before dipping them in romesco sauce. Delicious. Never seen them cooked any other way.
Ben definitely earned this one. It would be awesome to have the recipe!
Chef vs normals challenge - refer to Nigel Slater's Appetite cookbook (or any of his cookbooks really). I think he is an amazing cook for seasonal British cooking ideas (and dishes from other cultures) and he is a great storyteller. One thing that I appreciate is that while he provides recipes his suggestions with amazing photos for inspiration are great for 'normals' who love to cook, like myself. Low stress. If you can get him as I guest I would watch that immediately too. Note - I have all of his books (a lot).
I literally had a salad last night with tomato and apple together with a sun dried tomato dressing. It’s odd in theory but was pretty tasty in practice, it was a fridge clearing salad so there were a few odd things😅
