    I love this color laser printer. I got mine for $100 a few years ago and being able to replace the toner is saving so much money. As you mentioned, alignment is important when reassembling the cartridge. I put a tiny dab of superglue on each side of the chip so it doesn’t fall out. Will be trying your Arduino chip reset solution next refill. Thanks for the great videos.

    The paper towel is not only for dust, it's to protect the drum from getting scratched. If you scratch the drum, every paper will have a mark where the scratch is! Although it's a bit risky, if you bend the chip board slightly it will come out without breaking the little tab. That way, you will not have to glue the new (or reprogrammed) one back in. Excellent video! Thanks DIY Tinker!!!

    Excellent instructional - especially useful end bit about re-fitting end cap and re-aligning and there not being any resistance trying to close the gap - do not force it. I found standing it upright the main shaft had pushed up and couldn't close it flush. After re-watching and removing, pushing shaft down fully, the end cap fitted as described - excellent - thank you. Saved me £££

    Thanks for this tutorial! LOVE this printer! *WARNING: DO NOT open on the chip side! REMEMBER refill side is **_OPPOSITE_** the chip side! This will save you lots of grief.* Made this mistake once & it was a disaster lol. _Impossible_ to get that sucker back on. We now revisit this video every time as a refresher! Follow these instructions and your Ricoh cartridges will last you forever & save you tons of $$$! We've refilled _many_ times over & the original cartridges have lasted me 3/4 through my printer-heavy BSN degree!

      Can you share how you solved it when you opened the chip side? I did this and now I'm stuck...

      learnt my lesson the hard way today. I was able to put it back together, however there was a loud noise came from my laser printer. To my dismay it didn't print or rather, have a very minimal ink, more like a shadow of an ink. Tried my best to find tutorial how to fix the problem but to avail, the result was still the same. The only thing that I can probably do If I still can't fix it is to buy a new toner cartridges.
      lesson learnt. Defo will watch the video as a refresher before refilling my toner again.

      Do you empty the overflow, if so do you melt a hole on top and poor it out then cover the hole with duct tape?

    How about waste toner? Is there a plug to access and dump out the waste toner?. Also a drop of hot glue will hold the chip in place.

    Fantastic video - thank you very much for sharing. There isn't much info out there on this procedure and this appears to be all I need for the job. Question about the installing the new chip: Since the old one is removed by cutting, should there be concern that the new one will not stay in place once installed?

    • @DIYTinker
      @DIYTinker  7 років тому +2

      glad to know you enjoyed the video. No, there isnt any concern that the new one will not stay in place, it worked just fine. But if you want, you could use tape or even elmer's school glue to stable it.

      Got it working fine without any additional meddling. You saved me $50+

      I know this is resolved, but for anyone else who's concerned... we use a small sliver of tape on the edge to hold the chip in place. Works beautifully!

    thanks for this video to show us how to filling the toner. my question is. its important to change the chip of particular color every time with refilling the toner?

      The pages printed count of the chip needs to be reset (DIY Tinker has a video on doing that for this printer) OR you can put in a new chip with a zero pages printed count, as he did in this video. If you don't change the chip, the pages printed count will continue to increase on the existing chip, and after a while, the printer will refuse to print, because the pages printed count has been exceeded for the cartridge.

    I followed your directions and everything went together fine. The chip read shows a full cartridge. But, I get a strong vibration when warming up and printing and I get a blue pink when printing blue. It is a cyan cartridge. I pulled off the screws and and made sure everything was seated, but I still have the problems. Do you have any ideas? Thks.

    Do i have to change the chip for each colour or its just the black colour?

    • @jdaniels1313
      @jdaniels1313 4 роки тому

      Each color has its own chip. You only need to change/reset the chip when the count is low. If your color cartridges are 50% full but your black is at 10% and you are refilling it, but not your other ones, there is no need to do anything to your color cartridge chips. That said, if it is your Magenta toner you are refilling, you will need the chip for that cartridge. I believe he says in this video that the chips are a little different for each color and black. He has a video for resetting the chips using an Arduino board.

    is it compulsory to change the chip after refill?

    • @jimsmith9803
      @jimsmith9803 5 років тому +1

      No. See the video of how to reprogram the chip if you're up to it. Reset the chip every time the printer starts blinking red. Refill the toner when that color starts to get light. If you're not up to reprogramming the chip, have an extra chip handy and replace it when the printer refuses to print. Ignore that flashing light til then. It is a hard stop so it is mandatory to have one on hand for when you absolutely have to replace the chip. My printer only uses 60% of the toner before it stops.

    Thanks for this! Questions: 1) Should these cartridges only be refilled once or they can they undergo the refill procedure several times? Just wanting to know so I can have another refill kit on hand for later if I can do it again. 2) Some videos say dump the old toner and vacuum out the cartridge while others say retain the old toner. You didn't mention either so I was wondering about your take on that.

    • @andrzejraczynski1896
      @andrzejraczynski1896 6 років тому

      you can reuse many times. just refill and rechip. vacuuming out old toner (form inside) doesn't matter, but probably would be a good idea to vacuum the spills from the cartridge/desk/etc after you plug it back in, as toner is not something you want to inhale, and its small enough that you wouldn't see some of it floating around. That being said, if you use a cheap vacuum it won't catch any of it, just spread it out even more after it passes through the bag/filter :)

      Have you tried this? Refilling on top of old material? I'm tempted to try, but I don't want to gamble on the print quality. While the kit I ordered came with new chips, I plan on simply reflashing the existing chips with this tool (ua-cam.com/video/pv9y2tHNcCM/v-deo.html) anytime I get a low-toner warning. That way I can truly empty the cartridges before refilling - without having to sacrifice a chip.

    • @andrzejraczynski1896

      interesting, might have to look into getting one of those rewriters... yes, i dumped 3 containers of toner into whatever was left in the 3 cartridges (the 4th wasn't showing to be low yet so left it alone). The 3 were happy and have been working for a week now. There's plenty of room in there for more toner, even though you don't want to pack it full, putting new on top of old should not be an issue. Although I am curious if eventually I could use this reflasher and keep going for a few hundred pages more before adding more toner...
