Cookie Crisp is one of my favorite tasting cereals, definitely in the top 5 of all time! I only ate the Chocolate Chip flavor, and absolutely loved it! I have such fond memories of enjoying Cookie Crisp as a child. It's just a shame that the recipe changed after Ralston sold the cereal to General Mills in 1997. It's a shame kids of the next generation didn't get to enjoy the great old recipe like we did back in the day.
I remember eating these in the early 90's & they tasted amazing. The newer recipe tastes no better than average. I miss the old recipe, but a Chips Ahoy cereal is out now & it tastes a lot better than the current Cookie Crisp. I loved the Peanut Butter Cookie Crisp & was sad when they were discontinued, but a Nutter Butter cereal is out now (which is one of the best cereals currently IMO) & they taste similar so I don't miss them now.

Just watching this one again and I wanted to say that I 100% agree with you that it doesn't taste the same as it did when Ralston was making the cereal and nowhere near as good. It's a shame they changed it and I wish they didn't fix what wasn't broke in the first place. Ralston was quite the cereal powerhouse when we were kids. General Mills is hoarding a lot of gems in their "vault" that they could easily bring back but don't. Along with their acquisition of the Ralston brands of cereals, the possibilities would be endless of the magic that could return to the breakfast table. I think I have a nostalgic cereal addiction. The same thing happened to Count Chocula...they changed the formula from oat-based to corn-based, which in my opinion, tastes like styrofoam! But corn is cheaper than oats and they went with that. Call General Mills and tell them ...they DO listen if you speak up.

No idea how good the original formula was. The reason I never really cared for this cereal is mainly because they use corn to make it. They taste like corn with chocolate embedded in it, which is not exactly what I would expect a cookie to taste like.

I was the guy who killed off the Burglar and the Cop. When General Mills bought the brand, we (their advertising agency) felt there were too many characters, and that kids couldn't relate to any of them. Actually the commercials were shown to kids in focus groups, and no one liked the Burglar or Cop....but they loved Chip! So Chip became the star....until Cookie Crisp went global. In other countries they eat dogs! So having a dog mascot became a problem. Fortunately no one eats wolves....so Chip grew fangs and is still howling for Coooooookie Crisp to this day.

I know I'm up there in age cause I remember "Cookie Jarvis" well but don't know any of the other mascots. My parents didn't buy Cookie Crisp often but I do remember liking it. It's a shame they can never keep things as they are. It's always about cheapening down the quality so they can increase their bottom line$$$$$.
King Vitamin and Cookie Crisp were my faves growing up. KV cause it's what I had a lot cause growing up poor, you ate the cheap cereal. When We had a little extra money, I got a box of Fruity Pebbles, or Cookie Crisp. Neither taste the same as the old formula. Fruity Pebbles tastes more chemical and artificial now, while Cookie Crisp tastes like cocoa dusted cardboard now. A LOT of cereals cut back on sugar when the US became more health conscience for children, linking sugar to obesity and diabetes.
Kinda wish Chip was still a dog. Dogs are far more welcoming than wolves in terms of marketing to kids, plus he was fat as if indicating that if you eat too much Cookie Crisp you'll develop diabetes.

They kept selling and manufacturing Cookie Crisp Cereal until July 1996, by that time, General Mills had already purchased the IP from Ralcorp, but since Ralston refused to sell or give GM its Trade secrets, General Mills was forced to create their own recipe.
And Chip The Dog was introduced in Late 1989 around the same time as the Burger King Kids Club.
