"I have to find a way to explain the arrival of the XT4 next week to Denae..."
The way I got around this, was that I just kept getting similar looking fuji bodies so my wife could never tell the difference 🤣🤣🤣 I'm hoping that if I replace my X100F with an X100V she wont notice.....

I love these “crossover” videos. It reminds me of my comic book days when, for example, Spider-Man would team up with the Fantastic Four. I particularly loved Hugh riffing on a dozen camera/lens combos and then making a totally rational argument why the iPhone is the correct answer, when I knew the whole time that he would pick a Leica. That said, it makes me said to hear professional photographers talking about needing to sell gear to get through this.

Great video Andrew 😊 First off, I KNEW what Hugh’s answer would be even before I heard it! Denae’s love of the 56mm echoes mine for this phenomenal lens and some of my best photos have come from it , but I would side with you Andrew, and the versatility of the 16 would be the winner for me. Although Gordon’s love one X100 is also tempting! Once again, great video 👍

For me, the most used camera that I have to have with me always is the one on my smartphone (living with a Galaxy S20 right now). Taking snaps of things takes the place of writing stuff down; I digitize a lot of receipts and other documents every day with it. To keep sparking joy in creative photography every time I use it would be a Fuji X100V.

What a wonderful collaboration! The impending arrival of the X-T4 is hilarious given the preceding conversation, but all jokes aside I truly hope that business picks up again soon in a big way for every photographer going through this.

  • @LyndonPatrickSmith
    @LyndonPatrickSmith 4 роки тому +1

Great video! Good luck getting that T4 past Denae.
For me, if it was 35mm film I really like the Pentax LX with the 50 1.4 M series. I’ve never shot a Leica, but that combo is hard to beat and produces outstanding images and perfect exposures. It’s a joy to use. For digital, I don’t know yet. I have the X-T2 and X-H1 and they do the job, but to quote U2, “I still haven’t found what I’m looking for.” I do like rangefinder style bodies, so maybe the X-Pro3 or X100V. I’ve only tried them out in a camera store, so I can’t really say. And that is one of the reasons I probably watch too many UA-cam camera reviews. 😀

  • @thaipepperlasvegas6693
    @thaipepperlasvegas6693 3 роки тому

It's funny that I thought of that question since over ten years ago. The answer is probably almost the same. If I can only live with just one camera and a lens, I wouldn't really care much about the camera body but definitely can't live without a ultra wideangle lens.
As we're all known, the body got replace almost every other year. However, there is no camera body in the last fifteen years that we can call it absolutely terrible to shoot with. Fifteen years ago I took most of my photos with a Nikon D50 and a Tamron 11-18mm and I still got tons of great landscape photos with that combo. Three or four years later, I replaced that combo with Nikon D300 and Nikkor 12-24mm and still get all the fantastic photos. Another 3-4 went by and I got myself into Fujifilm X-T1 with Fujinon 10-24mm. Nowadays, it's the time for Canon R5 with RF 15-35mm. So, whenever the question came up my answer is to get me a body and an ultra wide angle lens then I'll be all set.

You guys are just a class act in my book. I have been thinking about this a lot as I get ready to put a lot of gear on the chopping block. It is a toss between my Nikon F2sb, or Leica M2 or 4. I re-watched this video again, and I’m glad I did. I am in selling mode, so it was actually a helpful exercise. My choice would be the Leica M2, and the Voigtlander 40mm. So that’s what I’m keeping, and since I’m not on a desert island, a Bessa-T with a broken meter. Also a couple Nikon SLR’s, a family Zeiss Ikoflex, one Fuji X Pro for digital, and that’s it. Everything else will be sold. Thanks for making this thought provoking video.

For me, if I were to be literally stuck on a desert island with only one camera and lens, I would choose my Minolta SRT-101 with a Rokkor 58mm f/1.4. An absolutely solid camera with a lens that exactly matches the scale to which our eyes see things. I think the idea of having hundreds of rolls of undeveloped Tri-X in a container wash up on a beach 20 years after my death is far more exciting than taking shots on a DSLR or mirrorless, only for it to eventually be eroded by the salt and sand.

Thanks for the great video, again. For me it would be these:
    - Digital: Fujifilm XT3 & 35F2. BUT > If there are no people, I don't see the logic of having an extremely versatile lens. If I would really be alone, it would be paired with the 16 1.4. Sold all my lenses to keep just these two so logically it's a toss between those.
    - Film: Nikon F3hp and 50mm 1.4 ais. This was my first film combo. Got it in immaculate condition. Meanwhile I have 7 film cameras, but the F3 and that gorgeous piece of glass keep to amaze me. Shot close to 160 rolls through it so far and it just never ever disappoints. Just shot 8 rolls of cinefilm, mostly at night and the results are book worthy. With the ecn2 development and professional scanning I saw just how good this kit is.
    My 2 cents.
    Stay safe man

I have a very sentimental love for this camera that I would stick too if I was stuck on desert island. My Minolta X-570 with 50mm f1.7 and my flash 360PX with a tons of Fujifilm 100 ISO. I bought this camera in mid-80's with several other Minolta SLR cameras around the same time. This is the camera that I learned my skill as a photographer, make money to buy more gears. Even today, I still enjoyed to take my Minolta X-570 out to shoot film. It is not as good as my Sony A7II, however it keeps me focus.

If I went just by gear I had right now, that's rather tough, because I have a pretty strong attachment to my old 35mm point and shoot, and beyond that, I only have the one digital camera body, with two lenses. So for such, it would probably be the G85 with the Lumix 12-60.
If I could choose whatever kit I wanted, it would probably be the GH5S with either the Olympus 17mm f1.2 Pro, or the Panasonic-Leica 15mm f1.7. Tough call between those two lenses, because I really do like both of them.
The astrophotographer in me would say I'd take the ZWO ASI1600MM Pro with a filterwheel, LRGB filters, as well as a narrowband set (Ha, OIII, and SII), paired with a Celestron 8" RASA f2 telescope, and a CGX-L mount. Hey, you're in the middle of absolutely nowhere, you're going to have an insanely awesome view of the night sky!

I would love to keep my XPro2 and pair it with the Mitakon 35mm f0.95 mk 2. I love that combo and both the camera as well as the lens feel like a modern classic pair.
I also own an X100s that has a lot of sentimental value for me, which I hope my wife would save as her lost island camera. If we are are marooned together we can keep swapping back and forth ;)

I think what most people want is a camera with which they have a connection - A camera that inspires them. Personally, I would choose my XF35mm f/1.4, and just about any FUJIXSERIES weather-sealed body.

Great video! For me, it's easy. Film would be the Minolta CLE w/ 40mm f/2 rokkor lens. Digital would be the X100V (I've been using the x100 series since 2014 and still love them).

I used Canon, Nikon, Leica, Fuji and Sony cameras. My fist choice will definitely be the Sony RX1RMK2 (42 mp + Zeiss 35mm f2)
Second choice would probably be the Fujifilm X100V

I have two picks, one digital and one film. For digital I am going with my Fuji XT-2 with my 18-55mm lens. As for film, I am going with Fuji Tiara 2 (my favorite compact point and shoot camera).

Thank you Andrew forwarding the opinions of a few of my favourite photographers l came across through UA-cam channels and to a little icing on the cake l must mention your dashing demeanor brightens my love for photography. Although I am only watching your second video but I feel the attachment is so ancient. I love to see Mr. Huge Brownstone after a real lapse of time and he is to me so evangelical. Well if you have asked me what my gears would be if I'd be in a desert island, l confess that l'd take my age old Minolta X-700 with Vivitar 28-85 crude, 50mm 1.2 MD Rokkor, and Minolta MD 100-200 f 5.6 lenses. And l'd obviously take my ASUS ZENFONE M2. These equipments l really in love and l know I'm not going to sell them at any cost. Last but not the least I'd take with me, only l could afford, any mirrorless camera of Leica be it 1080 or 4K video compatibility. Thanks once again remain safe and secure.

Love my X-H1 with my 23 1.4. If it wasn't that I'd have to say a Leica Q2... although I've never tried it I think it would hit most of my needs. :)

OMFG!!! This has been the No. 1 question I've always wondered about lol ... The one problem I couldn't think around was with - Film : dev. & stock Digital : charging the battery & storage. However, with hypothetic scenario in mind, these would be my choices :
    Film : Nikon F3 w/ 28-70mm f/2.8D ED-IF AF-S
    Digital : Olympus OMD EM1 mark 3 w/ Olympus 12-100 f4

A film camera would be impractical, but my M6 with 35/1.4 asph (v1) would be my choice. Mechanical, don't need batteries; but do need film...hmmm. Digital, I'd be leaning towards Hugh. Leica SL2 with SL 35mm Summicron. Weather proof body and lens, both built like a tank, and just an amazing connection to them. The 35mm field of view usually seems to be just right, not shooting portraits or sports, just life. Yep, that would be it.

    Desert camera?
I don’t own it, but the x100v, based on my fuji xt3 experience.
    1) 35mm equiv is a good single lens.
    2) built in ND offers exposure options
    3) built in flash and leaf shutter offers creative options
    4) f2 lens means environment portraits possible.
    5) fuji film sims means endless “filmstocks”
That with app “maxcurves” to edit jpgs... done!

I had a learning moment similar to time on a Desert Island two summers ago. My martial arts instructor and friend of 35 years died unexpectedly, and I got on a plane to attend the memorial. I brought a point and shoot autofocus film camera, and bought a digital video camera when I got to my destination. The weather was over 100 degrees Fahrenheit indoors. The video camera electronics died while trying to record speeches at the memorial service. The autofocus 35mm camera electronics died after half a roll, and would not focus very well, given the atmospheric shimmer. That was only a few hundred dollars in expenses. Losing all of those memories? Priceless. Irreplaceable.
I had a previous video camera burn as its battery pack caught fire in use (exciting) and another (Kodak) that cost me 350 dollars die because the sensor cracked at an elevation of 10,000 feet. (Kodak wouldn't honor the warranty. They said I should have known digital cameras cannot and do not work in extreme conditions.) Lesson learned.
The next time I want to get memories on film, I will overnight my 1944 Speed Graphic to the destination along with film, and use that. With a full filter kit , hood, close up and tele set, I'll be ready to roll, without worrying about batteries, electronics, or sensors dying on me. Feel free to call me a Luddite -who has negatives from important events in their life.
I'm sure I might be as well served by a mechanical Praktica or similar, but for durability, the camera traditionally used to shoot news images with while blocking attacks from angry mobsters is a good choice. I'm not sure an iPhone will be as functional as a Speed Graphic in ten, let alone eighty years.

Had a bit of think about this….
OK: Current setup is Fujifilm GFX50R, with the GF 45mm, 50mm, and 120mm.
Scenario 1: Downsize the existing kit.
In that case, I’d go with the GFX50R with the 50mm f3.5. Depth of field is “sufficient”. It’s the most portable lens. Fastest focusing. I’d miss the 120mm portraits, but I could make do with the 50mm for more environmental portraits.
Scenario 2: Sell the GFX kit, replacing with kit that’s same or similar to what I’ve used before.
    I can’t decide:
    1. Fuji 100V (though, I’ve never used it, I’ve had a play with the X100F before).
    2. XT-4 (I’ve used X-T2 and X-H1 before), and a used Voigtlander 35mm M-Mount f1.7 Ultron Aspherical (I’ve owned this lens before with the X-H1, it’s wonderful)
Scenario 3: Sell the GFX kit, and replace with something that is going to last a long time.
In this case, we have to go film without electronics.
So, it’s going to be that Voigtlander 35mm f1.7 Ultron again…. paired with some form of Zeiss Ikon or Voigtlander Bessa that can operate fully manually.

What a wonderful video. Sorry to hear about having sell some stuff Andrew, as someone who has so much 'stuff' I dread the thought of having to sell any of my cameras because they all get used and all have sentimentality attached to them. Having to pick one is such a hard choice. Maybe my Nikon F3 and 50mm AIS F1.8 pancake (Japan only version). Stay safe guys during these crazy covid days. I am so thankful to be Australian.

Wonderful video. Since I'm in the process of moving from Canon to Fuji, my choice would be a Fuji camera. Since Christmas I bought the X100F and the X-T3. Still learning both so not sure which would be THE camera, but definitely one of these two so far. But, I'll see what I buy next.
